We are a small squash playing Nation that continues to be supported by Sport Wales and consistently punches above its weight in all areas of the sport. We share the Sport Wales vision of uniting a proud sporting Nation, where every child should be hooked on sport for life and striving for a nation of champions. We aim to achieve this through increased partnerships with Local Authorities, players, parents and volunteers, by ensuring clear targets and realistic goals, managed by strong corporate governance.
The 2012/2013 squash season in a snapshot: Appointed a (new post) Operations Manager Develop the business Re-branded from SQW to WSRB Produced a fresh modern easy to navigate website Delivered 10 UKCC coaching courses to 66 coaches and qualified 77 Leaders. Delivered 3 Referee courses and 2 workshops across the principality. Introduced Racketball to many clubs & held the first national championships Received record entries in the Masters Closed and held the 1 st Masters Open 3 professional players were awarded Elite Cymru funding and achieved world ranking career highs. Mens & Ladies senior teams success on the European stage Introduction of the Central Powys Forum full access to coach & player pathway. Delivered the Mini Squash national schools programme to 53 schools, 8,200 pupils. Won the U13 British national title & silver medals for Five Nations. Brought live streaming of WSRB national events to your homes through laptops, computers, smart phones and tablets. Continue to deliver the back to basics coaching programme through 4 High Performance Coaches. A World Referee and Senior assessor from Wales Maintained the domestic team squash result service throughout Wales with 9 leagues (190 teams) playing weekly with every result going on the website. Presentation Adult Team squash continues to be the backbone of club squash in Wales. Domestic Competition South Wales leagues - Thanks to the League Manager, Mike Howe 9 leagues 2,514 matches 15,480 rubbers 56,512 games 85,6574 points Thanks to Mike for the ENDLESS hours of hard work organising the South Wales Leagues and assisting the County League organisers from North, South and West Wales.
League squash in Wales has 190 teams playing weekly with the Captains inputting the results on the website portal which is updated every day receiving over 98,000 hits last season. On the men s tour this year Peter Creed has climbed to 69 in the World, a career high. On the women s WSA tour Tesni Evans has reached a career high of 45. Deon has reached 48. Referee Awards A big well done to Roy Gingell this season on again raising the standard of refereeing on the PSA and WSA World tours. Currently appointed a World Senior Assessor, Roy was chosen to referee the World Series Finals at the Queens Club in London this year as well as a handful of other Pro Event including the British Open Final, the Men s World Open Final and the Mens World Team Finals. Tournament Attendance and Activity 80 sessions covered by affiliated referees 40 assessments on new referees following course attendance 2 Referee passes to County Grade from Club grade Referee workshops in North & South Wales Courses in Prestatyn, Cardiff and Wrexham Another referee rising through the ranks in Wales this year has been Huw Moores from Rhiwbina Squash Club. Huw plays squash and also assists with coaching at the club. This season Huw has been trained as a Referee Tutor and Assessor and has attended tournaments where he has been mentored and assessed by World Referee, Roy Gingell. In recognition of his development and enthusiasm Huw represented Wales as a referee at the European Team Championships held in Holland in April, where he gained valuable assessments and feedback for his referee portfolio. Present - Huw Moores Coaching Awards This season WSRB delivered 10 coaching courses and 96 coach mentoring opportunities, 43 learners attended UKCC Level 1, and 23 learners attended UKCC level 2 coaching courses. Courses have been successfully delivered across the country, in Cardiff, Swansea, Rhayader, Milford Haven, Wrexham and Bangor. WSRB Leaders courses have been held in; Swansea, Cardiff, Carmarthen and Pwlhelli with 77 leaders attending.
