Message From President Jim Grundy Rotary District 5550 and ShelterBox Appeal to Provide Disaster Aid to Pakistan Rotarians have a great opportunity to help those in need and to "Pay it Forward". One of your fellow Rotarians has offered to match any club member donations to the Shelter Box Program up to a maximum of the first $1000.00. Just think of how far these dollars can go, with the match from RI and then Federal Government, your initial donation could be doubled 3 times plus the tax receipt on your initial donation. A great opportunity to Pay it Forward to those in need!
The Old Philosopher : Past President Doug Alexander The year was 1941, the darkest days of WW2. Hitler and the Nazis had over run most of Europe and the blitz was on in London. Back on the home front, the Regina Rotary Club was about to launch a Victory loan campaign. It was advertised that an escaped general from Nazi Germany would address the club on conditions inside Germany. Naturally there was a full attendance and a large number of visitors. The speaker arrived and was introduced. He had a brush cut, a Hitler mustache and as he stood up he gave the Nazi salute and Heil Hitler, then proceeded to say that Britain would capitulate after a big air raid tonight and tomorrow. He said he would then be the Fuhrer of Canada. About this time some members started for the door while others were ready to rush the platform and punch out the guest speaker (an early version of Irish Night). Just then the speaker took off his mustache and wig and there stood the speaker to address us on the upcoming Victory Loan. Many subscriptions were increased and more enthusiasm was shown after our Taste of Nazi rule. From an address by Charlie Dunn Regina Rotary Club 50 th Anniversary Dinner October 2, 1967
