Course Communications The never-ending summer of 2018 continued through the month of September and the cool fronts that are so typical of late summer/early fall have yet to find their way to Chattanooga. In fact, the first 23 days of September averaged to be warmer than the entire month of July. Additionally, torrential downpours and localized flooding plagued the area during the last week of the month. Fortunately, Black Creek was spared any excessive damage but the wet weather did provide a very interesting day of TGA Mid-Amateur qualifying on Thursday, September 27. Due to the warm temps our greens quickly healed from aerification. However, they did suffer some heat and disease stress that normally does not occur this time of year. The combination of extremely wet weather and continued warmer than average temps will require extra careful monitoring going forward. And with the TGA Mid-Amateur Championship taking place October 3-6, time to address any issues will be very limited in the short term. For the long term, the best medicine for Bent grass is often the month of October. I have also found this month to be a good remedy for stressed golf course maintenance staff. Some things to look for in the coming weeks: - Cooler temps - Over seeding the range tee with Rye grass - The beginning of leaf season - Herbicide applications on weeds - Treatments for fire ants (please do not disturb ant mounds) Thanks, Scott Wicker Golf Course Superintendent
Club News & Events Kids Halloween Pumpkin Carving Saturday, October 20th - 10:30AM - 12PM Join us for our annual Kid s Pumpkin Carving Party! $12 per child will include a pumpkin, decorating supplies, a drink station and kid s finger foods. Belle Meade Bourbon Dinner Thursday, October 25th - 6:30PM-8:00PM Come and join us for a special pop up 5 course small plate dinner. Custom menu coursed to pair perfectly with each specialty bourbon (see menu). We will have Brian Cox, Belle Meade s Special Events person here with us to discuss flavor profiles and history of each bourbon. This is a must attend event. Fall Festival Wednesday, October 31st - 5:00PM-7:00PM It s that time of year again!! Celebrate Halloween with us at the Sports Complex and Pavilion! We will have hayrides, a costume contest, apple bobbing, adult bobbing for mini bottles, caramel apple station, walking taco bar and a limited bar! This event is open to the entire Community! Christmas Golf Cart Parade & Brunch with Santa Saturday, December 15th - Save the Date! 10:30AM-11:00AM- Parade 11:00AM-2:00PM-Brunch with Santa We are so excited to announce our first ever Black Creek Golf Cart Parade! The Parade, led by Santa, will begin at the Realty Center and end at the Clubhouse. We will have a winner for most creative Golf Cart Decorations and best overall Golf Cart Decorations. Once you arrive at the Clubhouse, Santa will be available for Pictures and Brunch (Brunch reservations will need to be made). Be on the lookout for more details to come but wanted to give everyone time to get their creative juices flowing! Tee times will be available following the completion of the tournament. Ladies Club Championship Thursday, October 25th - Friday, October 26th Call the Golf Shop to sign up or learn more! Wine & Nine Sunday, October 14th- Tee Time at 2pm The Black Creek Ladies Association (BCLA) invites you to join us for appetizers, wine and all golf/cart fees for a 9-hole scramble. Pairings organized by the Pro Shop to make it fun for all. Mid-Amateur at Black Creek Wednesday, October 3rd - Saturday, October 6th Black Creek will be hosting the TGA Mid-Amateur Championship October 3rd October 6th. The Golf Course will be closed October 3rd October 5th and will reopen Saturday October 6th at 11:00 am. This is a great tournament that many of you might be interested in playing in. The qualifier is the week before the Championship and is here at Black Creek. Please visit tngolf.org for more information. Parent-Child/Grandchild Tournament We are going to reschedule the Parent-Child/Grandchild for Sunday, October 14th. The event will be a 1:00 pm shotgun start. Hopefully with cooler weather, many of you will be able to play. Multiple divisions will be available. Please call the Golf Shop to sign up!
