Course Details The race HQ is located at Owslebury Parish Hall, Main Road, Owslebury, SO21 1JQ. The race roll out from the HQ will be neutralised along Longwood Road toward the crossroad junction with Belmore Lane. At the junction turn right onto Belmore Lane where, once safe, the race will be de-neutralised. Immediately after the crest of the first hill the road drops away to the left followed by a sharp right hand bend where extreme care is needed. After a series of rolling hills the race turns left into Salt Lane to climb up to The Milburys Pub crossroads. Just before cresting the Salt Lane climb riders will cross the finish line for the first time (there will be a further 7 laps). At the crossroads the race turns left for a fast decent followed by a sharp climb to the Longwood Road junction, at the junction the race turns left and descends to the junction with Belmore Lane where the race will turn left to complete the circuit. Full race length 60 miles Past Winners 2014: Michael Cripps (Army Cycling Union)
Course Map Once the race moves out of Owslebury, the riders will take an anti-clockwise direction around the circuit. The finish is on salt lane, approximately 100 yards from the left hand junction at the Millbury s pub
Information for competitors 1. CAR PARKING There is a great emphasis on car parking and creating as little disruption to the village as possible. Please see below Firstly, please where possible minimise the number of cars travelling to the race. If you know of other people travelling who are local to you then please look into car-pooling as we re trying to minimise the number of cars which travel to the race as much as possible. Owslebury is a very small village (see map on next page), so please do not park on the main road or any side roads in the village as farm machinery does use these lanes and we don t want to create a blockage. Any parking within the village is at the car owners own risk. We have parking available at the HQ (parish hall) for a limited number of cars, with more parking available at the cricket ground to the North east of the village where Baybridge Lane meets Longwood road ( main parking on attached map). This is slightly out of the village but only entails a short ride in, and if approaching the HQ from Belmore Lane it is more sensible to park at the cricket ground and ride into HQ. Once/if both of these car parks become full then we have additional parking available at a field within the village (provided the weather is dry), but we ll only be using this if we run out of space elsewhere so please don t ask to use it just because it s in the village if there is still room at the cricket ground. We ll have marshals on hand to assist with this. Parking spaces as a whole are not endless, so if you want to warm up before the race starts then please don t set up rollers/turbos in empty spaces as you will be asked to move. For any spectators, we would appreciate if they could park in a lay-by out on course to watch rather than leave cars in the village. There is a very good pub out on course (the Millbury s on the South Downs Way), where you can get a drink, leave the car (if you re purchasing something) and watch the race go by.
2. Please whilst here remember that Owslebury is a small village and we re trying to minimise our impact on the residents weekends. As such please do follow our instructions with regards to parking as we want this race to run as smoothly as possible so there aren t any barriers to future iterations. There s a very good pub in the form of the Ship Inn in the village, so if you want some food before, during or after the race then please support this local business and the general community which is hosting this event. 3. All riders need to be signed on by 1030am at the latest 4. Any riders more than 5 minutes down on the main bunch may be pulled from the race early at the discretion of the Commisaires and placed at the discretion of the judges. This is to maintain safety. 5. Juniors max gear of 7.93m 6. NO FOLLOWING VEHICLES OTHER THAN THAT OF THE OFFICIAL RACE CONVOY. Any riders associated with these vehicles WILL BE DISQUALIFIED 7. Any spectators circulating the course, in a car or by bike, are asked to please stop, preferably off the road, as the race convoy passes in the opposite direction. 8. Riders can bring spare wheels for Neutral service. A lack of wheels = no service. Wheels are provided to neutral service at owner s risk. 9. RIDERS PLEASE OBEY THE RULES OF THE ROAD. THOSE THAT USE THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD ARE PUTTING THEMSELVES IN HARMS WAY AND WILL ALSO BE PUTTING THEMSELVES AT RISK OF IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION 10. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11.
