TECHNICAL UPDATE Working with Children Swimming, like all other junior sports, is tightening up the rules and procedures to protect children. As part of this our area, Metropolitan North West (MNW), is now implementing new policies for Technical Officials (TO). Henceforth, all MNW club members seeking new TO qualifications must have completed a Working with Children Check (WWC) before they can be assessed. The process is conducted on-line initially. It is free for all volunteers to register and obtain a WWC number. See https://wwccheck.ccyp.nsw.gov.au/applicants/application. Once you receive your WWC number you provide the number and your date of birth to Jose Jalvo, MNW s area coordinator (jose_smnw@yahoo.com.au). Jan Baihn, our club Welfare Officer, would appreciate anyone completing the WWC process copying her in when sending their registration details to Jose. She can be contacted of a Friday night or through our website at wefare@castlehilldolphins.com.au. We need your help Welcome to our winter season. Running a swimming night is a labour intensive activity - we require 25 volunteers each club night. As well as our Referees, we need a Marshall, a Checkstarter, a Starter, a Chief and 18 Timekeepers, plus people on the recording/computer table. Please support your children s swimming and help out where you can. Max and Emmie Ruddock trophy races Well done to the three girls and the four boys who contested the finals of this year s Max and Emmie Ruddock trophy races on 01 May. Congratulations to the winners Ashley Botfield and Sam Heming. This year there was a smaller number of spectators watching the efforts of our swimmers. This is a pity handicap racing is very different to normal scratch events and you don t get many chances to see it. We even had trouble getting enough Timekeepers for the races. Thank you to those parents who helped. A special thankyou to one of our senior swimmers Sienna McDonald, and to Ashley s sister, Jess, who both timekept on the day. On-line Timekeeper Training If you are interested in qualifying as a Timekeeper you can now do the theory side of the qualification on-line and in your own time. To view the on-line training course visit the Swimming NSW website - https:// nswtraining.swimming.org.au/courses/timekeeper/. Dolphins successfully completing the online training should contact Ron Brettle to arrange their assessment. Ron can be contacted at the club of a Friday night or through our website at TO_training@castlehilldolphins.com.au. If you have any questions please contact Ron. PLEASE NOTE: apparently you can complete the on-line training without being registered. You must however be registered with SNSW before you can be assessed.

Computer Operators Like most clubs these days we run our Friday night swimming using the Dolphin Oasis system. We need more computer operators to ensure that we can cover every Friday night. Our experienced operators can provide training and mentoring for newcomers. If you are interested, talk to the people on the recording table of a Friday night or contact our President, Andrew Marcer (president@castlehilldolphins.com.au). TO Training Anyone interested in qualifying for any of the TO positions should see Ron Brettle of a Friday night. You can also reach Ron at TO_training@castlehilldolphins.com.au.
