It is a popular event with over 650 individuals in attendance last year. The evening consists of a social hour, dinner, entertainment and dance along with extras such as our photo booth and raffle prizes. All LEEP members should have received their invitations during the first week of July. The event is open to anyone interested, however, you must register in advance. Reservations will only be accepted by returning the payment and RSVP included with the invitation. (Payments for staff must also be included) Please return your RSVP to save your spot as soon as possible because space is limited. Phone registration is not permitted. Helpful hints: RSVP s are due by Friday, August 12 and no late RSVP s will be accepted. Tables of 7 will not be accommodated and may result in groups being split. Tables of 1-6 or a full table of 8 are preferred. This event is a semi- formal event and staff and attendees are asked to dress accordingly. *Men s neck ties are available at the LEEP office for those who do not own one. One professional photo per person will be allowed for the event. Photos will be available for pick-up at the LEEP office on Monday, September 19, 2016. Athlete Fun Fact of the Month By: Kristy Rotchadl The forward pass first appeared in college football in 1906. It was introduced in an attempt to increase scoring and reduce injuries. Every athlete must have a current Special Olympics Application for Participation Form on file before participating in a sport. These forms require a doctor s signature and could take time to complete. If you are in question as to whether you have this form completed, please call LEEP at 387-5122 and we can verify it for you. This form must be updated every three years, if it is not up to date, athlete will not be able to practice or compete. All athletes must be a paid LEEP Member before participating in any LEEP activities. After the athletes have registered for their sports, LEEP will mail out specific information regarding practice times, tournament dates, what to wear, etc. Special Olympics is available for anyone over the age of 8 years old. LEEP will attempt to place younger athletes together. Paperwork: Special Olympics Physical Very Important! Make sure to check your paperwork to participate in Special Olympics. o Is your medical form up to date? If you have a doctor appointment coming up, bring the form with you to get it signed by your doctor and make sure it s up to date! It s better to update often, instead of waiting till it s too late. o Check out the Special Olympics Website www.specialolympicsminnesota. org That s another LEEP FIRST DOWN!!!!! This will be LEEP s fifth year participating in Special Olympics MN Flag Football program. This is a non-contact sport and is open to anyone over the age of 8. The Unified Flag Football season combines athletes with and without disabilities to compete on the same team. By participating together, athletes and Unified Partners improve their physical fitness, sharpen their skills, challenge the competition, and overcome prejudices about intellectual disabilities. We will engage in football specific drills, developing plays, and strengthening teamwork throughout the entire season! Days: Thursdays, August 25 October 20 Time: 4:30-5:30pm Limit: 27 Athletes Location: Erlandson Park, Mankato (E Main Street/ Victory Drive) Cost: $225 for entire season *includes: All practices, MSU Game Participation Halftime Facility Rental, Coaching Staff, Sports Fees and uniform shirt *Practice transportation not included. *For the fall sports season, dual athletes must pay full registration fee for both sports. Remember that there are scholarships and payment plans available. Call LEEP with any questions! Participants have 2 payment options: 1 payment option: $225 payment due August 25 3 payment option: 1 st payment: $90 due August 25 2 nd payment: $70 due September 15 3 rd payment: $65 due October 13 Transportation: Additional $25 for 1-Way Transportation Additional $50 for 2- Way Transportation Uniforms: Flag Football Shirts will be required for competition. This year, our Special Olympics Bowling program will again be separate from our LEEP bowling program. This means that Special Olympic Bowlers must have current Athlete Physical Form on file at LEEP. These forms must be updated every three years and do require a physician s signature. Athletes will not be allowed to participate in the program or competitions without an updated form. Days: Wednesdays, September 7 November 9, 2016 Time: 4:30-5:50pm Limit: 72 Athletes Location: Wow! Zone (2030 Adams St) Behind Hilltop Hy-Vee Cost: $115 for entire season *includes: All practices, Facility Rental, Coaching Staff, Sports Fees and uniform shirt *Replacement uniform has a fee of $10. *Practice transportation not included *for the fall sports season, dual athletes must pay full registration fee for both sports. Powerlifting It s back! Join us at Proventus Crossfit for our Powerlifting. Each practice the Proventus Crossfit Coaches will guide you through a warm-up, work with you to build strength and learn how to complete the lifts properly, and help you get in shape with a workout. New Social Check out our first LEEP Social! After our amazing sport leagues we will unwind with friends, play lawn games, eat dinner, and soak up some more rays! Celebrate the summer and all the fun you had at LEEP leagues with a final hoorah! With summer weather well upon us, LEEP would like to remind all participants/ staff/ guardians to always pay attention to the weather. Programs will be held as scheduled if there is a Severe Weather Watch in effect. It will be up to participants/ staff if they would like to attend. In order to not be charged, cancelations must be called in prior to the event start time. It is LEEP s policy to cancel any and all LEEP programs if a Tornado Warning is in effect. No phone calls will be made to participants/ staff/ guardians, but all participants will be given a refund if the program was canceled prior to the program start. Please call our Cancellation Line to confirm whether or not programs running at 507-387-9996. Watch: Programs will continue as scheduled. Severe Weather / Tornado Warning: Programs are automatically canceled. As always, staff/ guardians are required to check participants in with LEEP Staff prior to leaving the program. This will help eliminate any confusion and will ensure all participants safety. Scholarships are Available! Applications can be found online at www.mankatoleep.org Looking forward to that special activity, but it s slightly out of your budget? Not to worry, we have the solution for you! Come into our office and fill out our scholarship form before the event and get up to 50% of your costs covered for the event! This can be used for Special Events, Night Activities, Classes, Youth Programming and Special Olympic Sports. *All scholarships are given at the discretion of the Executive Director. Tuesdays August 16, 23, 30 Desserts Class- Have a sweet tooth but don t want to turn the oven on in the hot summer heat? Join us a LEEP to learn how to make no bake desserts. We will be making no bake peanut butter Chex bars, Twinkie cake (No it doesn t taste like a Twinkie, it s made from them!) and no bake s mores cheesecake. We will play games as a group while we enjoy our delicious desserts. *Cost includes staffing, and supplies. *No transportation available for this class. Location: LEEP Time: Limit: 12 Cost: $20- no transportation provided Thursdays: August 11, 18, 25- Walking Club - Don t forget to sign up quick for one of our favorite exercise classes, Walking Club! We will be checking out the beautiful sights at Riverfront Park, Sibley Park and Benson Park. Stroll along with your friends and get fit through this great outdoor walking class. Saturday, August 6 Vikings Training Camp and The Boulder Tap House The Vikings return for their 51 st year of training camp in Mankato so let s go out and show them our support! We will be watching the Vikings do a walk thru practice, then heading over to The Boulder Tap House for lunch. *Cost includes staffing, event, drop off transportation, and 1 meal. Meet at LEEP: 10:00am Drop offs: 2:00-2:30pm Limit: 10 Cost: $25 Sunday, August 7 Mankato Ribfest Award-winning rib chefs from all across the country gather to provide sticky, spicy eats at Riverfront Park each summer. This will be one tasty LEEP event! This year s entertainment includes the Plotthounds and the Chris Hawkeye Band! *Cost includes staffing, event and drop off transportation, and 1 meal. Bring additional money for extra food and/or beverages. Meet at LEEP: 12:00pm Drop offs: 5:00-5:30pm Limit: 10 Cost: $35 Saturday, August 13 Waseca Waterpark LEEP is diving off the deep end at the Waseca Water Park! Soak up the sun before cooling off in the pool. Show off your moves on the diving board or take a trip down the water slide. We will grab a bite to eat from Arby s before heading to Waseca to enjoy a fun day in the sun. Be sure to bring sunscreen so you don t turn as red as a lobster! *Cost includes staffing, event and drop off transportation, 1 ticket, and 1 meal. Meet at LEEP: 11:00am Drop offs: 5:00-5:30pm Limit: 10 Cost: $45 Sunday, August 14 Mississippi Riverboat Tour and Brunch Cruise This relaxing brunch cruise will take you along the southern trails of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway and Heritage Trail, along the U of M Campus riverfront, under the stunning 35W Bridge, showcasing views of the St. Anthony Falls, the historic Stone Arch Bridge, amazing river bluffs with views of the amazing downtown Minneapolis skyline as they show you the best the Mississippi River has to offer! *Cost includes staffing, event and drop off transportation, 1 ticket, and 1 meal. The Minnesota State Fair is the highest attended event in Minnesota Annually and is sure to have something for all ages and interests! Enjoy the carnival rides, agriculture and farm animals, incredible food, lots of shows, grandstand events, competitions and contests, and so much more! *Cost includes staffing, event and drop off transportation, 1 meal, and 1 ticket. Meet at LEEP: 10:30am Drop offs: 6:30-7:00pm Limit: 10 Cost: $75 Sunday, August 28 Minnesota State Fair 2 That s right the Minnesota State Fair is so large, it is impossible to see it all in one day! Sign up for both days or just pick one, either way it will be a fun experience. In June Sam started volunteering with LEEP s Summer Rec program and both staff and participants agree that she is a great addition to the team! Sam wasn t afraid to dive into activities and was always ready to help. Her best LEEP memory so far is going bowling with the kids in the Summer Rec program, Everyone had a lot of fun and all the kids were supportive and encouraging of each other.
