April 17-19 NCAA Regionals May 8-10 NCAA Championships May 19-23 2016-17 SCHEDULE RAMS NOTEBOOK TBD Sugar Grove, Ill. HEADING BACK TO CALIFORNIA For the second week in a row, Colorado State will compete in the state of California, participating in the Meadow Club Women s Intercollegiate, March 6-7 in Fairfax. The 13-team field will play 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 on Tuesday. The course, designed by Alister Mackenzie, will play to 6,167 yards and a par of 72. The field includes: BYU, California, Coastal Carolina, CSU, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, San Jose State (co-host), Pepperdine, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Francisco (co-host) and UC Davis. Shotgun start begins at 9:15 a.m. MT each day, with live scoring available on Golfstat.com. The field is very good and the course is a beautiful design, head coach Annie Young said. It s supposed to rain, so last week trained us for that. We re just looking to improve on our performance. There were a lot of bright spots last week, but we need consistency and to put three good rounds together. CSU s lineup will feature Katrina Prendergast, Ellen Secor, Jessica Sloot, Elisabeth Rau and Brianna Becker. CONTACTS: NIC HALLISEY (SID) / KURT MADDOX (STUDENT-ASSISTANT) (970) 231-4789 NIC.HALLISEY@COLOSTATE.EDU KICKING OFF THE SPRING SEASON CSU began the women s golf season this past week, finishing in eighth place out of 14 teams at The Gold Rush, hosted by Long Beach State. The Rams shot a 48-over 912, highlighted by sophomore Katrina Prendergast s 11th-place finish (5-over 221). The Rams had a strong showing during Round 2, posting the fifth-best score in the field (299), but was unable to carry that momentum to Round 3. We started getting comfortable in the second round, head coach Annie Young said. I think the girls started to get in tournament mode and we started to see results. Unfortunately, I thought we had a perfect opportunity to beat some teams that were ranked ahead of us and we weren t able to get it done. Each players displayed bright spots throughout the tournament, but perhaps the biggest highlight was Ellen Secor s Round-2 hole in one on Hole 5. That was awesome for Ellen, Young said. It s not very often that you get to see one of your players do that. We were really excited for her. FALL HIGHLIGHTS Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown CSU capped its fall season with a 14th-place finish out of 19 teams... The tournament was shortened to two rounds due to weather... The Rams finished 1-over in Round 3, with a trio of golfers finishing par or better... Katrina Prendergast led all Rams with a 2-under 142, to tie for 28th place. Greenville (N.C.) Regional Preview Following its best result of the fall season, CSU struggled in North Carolina, but did improve each round... Finished 15th out of 16 teams with a 99-over 963... Was led by freshman Ellen Secor (20-over 236; T-39th). Ron Moore Women s Intercollegiate The Rams finished fifth out of 18 teams, led by an under-par final round... Three Rams earned top-20 finishes, led by Katrina Prendergast (T-4th)... Just three strokes behind Prendergast was senior Brianna Becker and freshman Ellen Secor... They both tallied 1-over 217s, tied for 12th out of 102 golfers... Secor had a 3-under 69 during Round 3, while Becker carded a 2-under 70... Prendergast shot a 4-under 68 during Round 1 and 3-under 69-during Round 3 to total the sixth-best tournament score in school history and third-best single-round score. Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational CSU had two top-20 finishers, led by Ellen Secor (T-9th) and Katrina Prendergast (18th)... Prendergast carded a tournament-best 5-under 67 during Round 2, tied for the best single-round score in school history... As a team, the Rams finished eighth out of 11 teams. Ptarmigan Ram Classic Opened the season with a home tournament, finishing 12th out of 15 teams... CSU was led by freshman Ellen Secor, who carded a 1-under 215 (fifth place) in her collegiate debut... Secor was competing as an individual and would have moved the Rams up four places... Caroline Reiners and Jessica Sloot also made their CSU debuts. SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM CSU s women s golf team posted a team GPA of 3.78 this past fall, the highest among all CSU teams in 2016. Looking back further, four of CSU s six golfers from 2015-16 earned Mountain West Academic All-Conference honors for holding a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0, with three of them on the Rams 2016-17 roster. Additionally, Brianna Becker and CSU graduate Mikayla Tatman were named All-American Scholars by the Women s Golf Coaches Association. Dating back to 2004, at least one Rams golfer has been a recipient. MAJORITY BACK CSU had its best season in recent memory in 2015-16, and this year, the fourth season under head coach Annie Young, the Rams are poised to take another step in the right direction. CSU returned the majority of its production from its record-breaking season a year ago, including its top finisher in all but one tournament. In total, the Rams brought back four of five letterwinners and 72 percent of their total lineups from last year. NEW FACES While the majority of the Rams lineup from last season returned to the course, CSU added three talented student-athletes, a group that is already making an impact on the team. Caroline Reiners A transfer from University of Aachen, in Germany, Reiners came to CSU with three years of eligibility. In high school overseas, she competed for Golfclub Schloss Myllendonk and was a four-time junior club champion, also winning the adult title twice. She twice finished top 10 at the state championship and has 30 individual titles to her name. Ellen Secor A native of Portland, Ore., Secor was a four-time All-Metro League selection at Sunset High School. At the 2015 Oregon Class 6A state championship, she set a high school state record by shooting a 66 in the first round, on her way to a fourth-place finish. She qualified for several national tournaments over the past year, including last year s U.S. Women s Amateur Four-Ball. Jessica Sloot A native of Fruit Heights, Utah, Sloot won the RAMS NOTEBOOK 2015 5A state title and finished in the top four all four years of her prep career. In addition to her individual accomplishments, she led Davis High School to two state titles and four top-three finishes, plus a trio of conference championships. She competed with Secor in the 2016 U.S. Women s Amateur Four-Ball. A CUT ABOVE The Rams 2015-16 team scoring average of 297.72 set a school record by more than four strokes. The previous high of 301.73 was set in 2008-09. Contributing to the low figure is the fact that three of CSU s seven golfers held individual stroke averages that rank among the top 10 in school history, including freshman Katrina Prendergast, whose 73.69 was a school record. SHATTERING RECORDS CSU had a record-breaking performance at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in October 2015, setting school records for a single round and tournament, in addition to several other highlights: Team score of 15-under 849 was a school record, shattering the previous best by 14 strokes (863 on Sept. 14, 2010). CSU shot under par during all three rounds, including a schoolrecord 279 (9-under) during Round 2. The Rams also shot a 283 (fourth) and 287 (T-10th). All five golfers shot under par at least one round during the tournament. Freshman Katrina Prendergast s three-round total of 210 (6-under) marked the third-best score in school history. During Round 2, she tied a program record with a 5-under 67. Three of the Rams scorers that week are currently on roster. GREB TO JOIN RAMS PROGRAM In November, prep star Haley Greb signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Rams, beginning this fall. Greb, from Pendleton High School in Oregon, earned four all-state honors and won the 2016 Oregon Junior Amateur. YOUNG APPOINTED TO NCAA COMMITTEE In September 2015, CSU head women s golf coach Annie Young was named to the NCAA Division I Women s Golf Committee. The four-year appointment extends through the 2018-19 academic year. As part of the committee, Young makes monthly conference calls, selects teams for regionals and evaluates potential rules changes, in addition to other tasks. During the spring, she traveled to regionals and the NCAA Championship, representing the NCAA. I m honored that I get to play a role in the progression of women s golf, Young said at the time. I m most excited to learn how everything works. It will be neat to be part of the selection process, and to learn more about the most-efficient way of scheduling.

Colorado State freshman golfer Ellen Secor earned a top-five finish at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, carding a 1-under 215 in her first collegiate competition. Secor s score was impressive, but unfortunately for the Rams, she was competing as an individual and did not count toward the Rams score. If she did, it would have accounted for a 17-stroke difference and moved the Rams from 12th to eighth place in the standings. She stepped up great, head coach Annie Young said of Secor s performance. She proved that she belongs in the lineup, and the intensity she comes with is going to be a huge asset for us when she s in the lineup. Secor posted a team-best 2-over 74 on Tuesday, while sophomore Katrina Prendergast and senior Elisabeth Rau tallied 3-over 75s during Round 3. Overall, Prendergast was the Rams top scorer, finishing with a 14-over 230. Rau and junior Sarah Archuleta tallied 16-over 234s. After leading all CSU scoerers through two rounds, freshman Jessica Sloot tallied a 19-over 235 during Round 3, followed by sophomore Caroline Reiners 24-over 240. Senior Brianna Becker, also competing as an individual, had the Rams third-best score overall of 231 (15-over). Colorado State shot its best round of golf of the season on Sunday, and coupled with an all-around team performance, finished fifth out of 18 teams at the Ron Moore Women s Intercollegiate. With three top-20 finishers, CSU carded a 7-under 281 during Round 3 to finish the three-day tournament at 11-over 875. The single-round score of 281 is tied for the third-best performance in school history, while the three-round score of 875 is sixth. They re really excited about today s play, head coach Annie Young said about her players. It s always fun when you shoot under par as a team, but everybody shot a low score today, which makes everyone feel like they contributed. It was a team effort. Katrina Prendergast tallied her first top-five finish of the season, shooting a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish at 2-under 214. She tied for fourth, thanks to two under-par rounds, including a tournament-leading 4-under 68 during Round 1. Just three strokes behind Prendergast was senior Brianna Becker and freshman Ellen Secor. They both tallied 1-over 217s, tied for 12th out of 102 golfers. Secor had a 3-under 69 on Sunday, while Becker carded a 2-under 70. Becker was consistent throughout the weekend, shooting between 2-over and 2-under in each round. Secor had an even-par 72 in Round 1, and finished strong with the 3-under 69 after shooting a 4-over 76 during Round 2. Sarah Archuleta (1-over 73) and Elisabeth Rau (2-over 74) also had solid rounds on Sunday their best totals of the tournament. Competing as individuals, Caroline Reiners and Jessica Sloot also shot their best rounds of the tournament on the final day. CSU s Round-3 score of 281 was the second-best score of the entire tournament second only to Kentucky s 277, also during Round 3. After shooting a strong 292 during Round 1 and sitting in third place, the Rams struggled through Round 2 on Saturday, carding a 14-over 302. Yesterday wasn t our finest day, but what was great to see was how they bounced back, Young said. If we re going to compete for titles and top fives, we re all going to have to play well and show up and be ready to play. This week was a big step in the right direction for us. Pepperdine (10-under 854), which took a nine-stroke lead after one round of play on Friday, held on to defeat host Denver (6-under 858). We started out playing really well, but kind of tailed off near the end, head coach Annie Young said. It s been a theme throughout the fall season, where we start strong but we don t finish. We re playing average right now and are capable of playing a lot better. Baylor (25-under 551) won the tournament which was originally scheduled for three rounds before Monday s second round was canceled due to rain. Host UNLV (17-under 559) finished second, followed by Idaho (16-under 560), San Diego State and Texas (15-under 561), Vanderbilt (14-under 562), San José State (11-under 565), UC Riverside (7-under 569), Missouri (4-under 572), Fresno State (3-under 573), Indiana and Gonzaga (1-over 577), Nevada (2-over 578), CSU (3-over 579), Nebraska (6-over 582), New Mexico (7-over 583), New Mexico State (13-over 589), Long Beach State (17-over 593) and UC Irvine (18-over 594). The consistency is not there right now, Young said, but I believe we have a lot of talent and can be successful this season. This break will give us a chance to rest, work on the little things and train so we re not as tired late in rounds. TRILOGY COLLEGIATE QUAD MATCHES Feb. 11 Gilbert, Ariz. Today was a bit of a struggle overall, head coach Annie Young said. I thought we had a perfect opportunity to beat some teams that were ranked ahead of us.
