Head COACH Cliff Warren 9th Season Mount St. Mary s 90 C liff Warren enters his ninth season at the helm of the Jacksonville University men s basketball program in 2013-14. In three of the last five seasons JU has made the postseason, and in the last two trips advanced with memorable wins on the road. On the heels of a rebuilding season in 2012-13, the Dolphins are ready to bounce back and return to the recent success that has become the norm. With a 99-92 win over Kennesaw State in triple overtime on January 10, 2013, Warren became the winningest head coach in school history, surpassing the record of 107 wins previously held by Rollie Rourke, who ran the program from 1953-1960. Warren enters this season with 114 victories in his time at JU. Since taking over as head coach prior to the 2005-06 season, Warren has transformed the Jacksonville program and brought them to the postseason on three occasions the first postseason trips for the team since the 1986 NCAA Tournament. After an injury-riddled 1-25 first season in charge of the Dolphins, Warren engineered the biggest turnaround in all of Division I his second season in charge. That 2006-07 team finished 15-14 and tied for third in the Atlantic Sun with a pair of freshmen -- Ben Smith and Lehmon Colbert -- helping lead the way. As that duo matured, the team improved to 18-13 in 2007-08 and advanced to the Atlantic Sun Championship game before falling to Belmont. A year later, the Dolphins put together a 15-5 conference record that earned the team the regular season championship and, ultimately, a berth into the NIT. With Smith and Colbert back for their senior seasons in 2009-10, AT Jacksonville again stormed through the Atlantic Sun on its way to its first 20-win season in nearly 25 years. When the Dolphins knocked off Arizona State in the first round of the NIT on Smith s buzzer-beating 3-pointer, it was the first postseason victory for JU since 1974. Warren s work at Jacksonville has not gone unnoticed by his peers. During his tenure, he has been named the Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year, as well as the CollegeInsider.com Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year. He has also been a finalist for the Hugh Durham Mid-Major Coach of the Year award and the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award. Warren earned his bachelor of science in business finance from Mount St. Mary s in 1990 and then worked there as a graduate assistant coach and earned a master of business administration in 1993. Before returning to Mount St. Mary s as an assistant coach in 1994, Warren played professionally for the Frederick Flyers of the Atlantic Basketball Association. Midway through the season, he was named assistant coach. He worked as an intern for the NBA s Washington Bullets in 1993-94. Atlantic Sun Preseason poll Jacksonville was picked to finish fourth in both the coaches and the media preseason polls, conducted in October. Following its dramatic run to the Sweet 16 in 2012-13, Florida Gulf Coast was a narrow favorite to win the Atlantic Sun in 2013-14 over Mercer. Coaches Poll (1st place votes in parentheses) 1. Kennesaw State, 83 2013-14 Honors page 4 Keith McDougald Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team AT preseason notes A big part of the scoring load this season could fall to Keith McDougald. The senior guard led the team in scoring a year ago with 13.1 points per game, a number that jumped to 15.4 points in Atlantic Sun games. The JU star registered double-figures in 21 of his 28 games, and set a career high with 25 points in Jacksonville s 99-92 3OT win over Kennesaw State (1/10). Also expected to fill an important role for the Dolphins this year is Jarvis Haywood. Haywood was a unanimous selection for the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team in 2012-13 after starting 30 games and finishing second on the team in scoring with an average of 11.5 points per contest. His 26-point effort at Lipscomb (2/28) was the individual season high for a Dolphin player on the year, and he was named Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week on three occasions. The other Jacksonville representative on the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team was Kordario Fleming. Fleming led the Dolphins, playing 28.0 minutes per game in his freshman season and started every Atlantic Sun game. He ended the season with three double-doubles and scored in double-figures 11 times. Another returner for JU who started some games last season is senior Javon Dawson. A transfer from the University of Utah, Dawson was named Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week on both Jan. 22 and Jan. 29 after back-to-back efforts with 17 points at UNF and 16 points at East Tennessee State. He started 10 games and played in a total of 28 last season, averaging 7.0 points and 4.5 boards per contest. Joining Fleming as the only other returner to play in all 32 games in 2012-13, Tyler Alderman looks to expand his role in the middle for the Dolphins in his sophomore campaign. Last season, Alderman spelled the JU big men and played 8.8 minutes per game. He contributed 1.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in his time on the floor. Sophomore Marcellous Bell played valuable minutes for Jacksonville last season, appearing in 27 games and pitching in 3.8 points in 12. 3 minutes on the Game 1 - at Florida State court. A threat from long range, Bell led the Dolphins in scoring with 17 at South Carolina (12/7). Jeremy Bogus brings experience to the Jacksonville backcourt after playing in 19 games and averaging 8.4 minutes a game as a sophomore. The bigger the stage, the better Bogus seemed to play. He notched seven points at No. 5 Indiana (12/28), and had three points, three boards, a block, a steal and an assist in JU s conference tournament quarterfinal against USC Upstate (3/7). Grad student RJ Slawson comes to JU from the University of South Carolina, where he averaged 4.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season. The other grad student to come to JU this season is Vince Martin. Martin played the last two seasons at Young Harris College in Georgia, leading the Peach Belt Conference in assists last season with 8.0 per game and averaging over 17 points per game as well. Freshman guard Sam Hunt joins Jacksonville from Greensboro, N.C., where he was named the Metro Conference Player of the Year as a senior and played in the state s East/West All-Star Game. Freshman forward J.R. Holder hails from Atlanta and was a 5A-South All- State selection as a senior. He averaged nearly 25 points a game in his high school career. Freshman guard/forward Marcel White is a native of Lake Wales, Fla., but spent a year at Vermont Prep before enrolling at JU. He won a 5A state title and was named MVP of the All-Tournament Team as a senior. Freshman center Josh Murray comes to JU from Burlington, N.C., where he was a 2A All-State pick at Cummings High School. JU also welcomes a walk-on to this year s squad. Omar El Manasterly joins the Dolphins after playing one season of basketball in Texas. Prior to that, he had lived in Egypt and played for its youth national team.

AT Media Policies The Jacksonville University Media Relations office has certain policies and procedures that we ask for you to abide by while covering the Dolphins. These are for the benefit of your needs and those of JU s student-athletes and coaches. We ask that you please respect these requests in order to create a good working atmosphere for all parties involved. We appreciate your coverage and if there is anything we can do to assist, please contact the Media Relations Office at (904) 256-7444. Credentials Credentials for all JU games are for working media only. Requests for media credentials should be made at least 72 hours prior to tip-off. Requests should be directed to Alex Keil, Associate Media Relations Director. Requests from the media covering visiting teams will be confirmed with that team s sports information director. Spouses, dates, children and other non-workers are not permitted in working media areas in compliance with the working code of the United States Basketball Writers Association. Credentials can be picked up at the Will Call area at the south end of the JVM Arena. Will Call will be open one hour before all home games. Parking Media parking is located on a limited basis in the West Lot adjacent to the JVM Arena. Requests for parking credentials should be submitted to Alex Keil, Associate Media Relations Director. At The Game JVM Arena is the site of most Dolphin basketball home games. All press seating will be on the South side of the arena. All media services (statistics, telephones, game info, etc.) will be readily available for your convenience. JU grants broadcast rights to the official radio outlet of the visiting team on a reciprocal basis. Two phone lines are available for visiting radio use. These telephones require collect calls or a credit card for billing. Photographers Jacksonville University will adhere to all NCAA guidelines regarding outside photography. Photographers and videographers are not permitted to shoot on the sidelines and must wear proper credentials at all times. Flash photography is prohibited at all times. Interview Policy All JU players and coaches will be available throughout the season for interviews with members of the news media. It is important, however, that all requests for interviews be made through the Media Relations Office at (904) 256-7444. Daily Practices The JU Media Relations staff encourages coverage of Dolphins basketball to not be limited to game-day. As a general rule, all practices are closed to the media and public. Please contact the Media Relations Office at least one day in advance to request an interview so an escort can be made available. The Media Relations office will make every effort to accommodate requests as quickly as possible. Daily practices typically run in the middle of the afternoon. 2o13-14 starting lineups Opponent Result Guard Guard Guard Forward Forward at Florida State Florida College at Gardner-Webb at Wake Forest Florida A&M Florida Trinity Baptist at FAU at UCF Samford South Carolina St. Mercer* Kennesaw State* at Northern Ky.* at Lipscomb* Stetson* Florida Gulf Coast* at North Florida* at USC Upstate* at ETSU* Lipscomb* Northern Ky.* at Florida Gulf Coast* at Stetson* North Florida* ETSU* USC Upstate* at Kennesaw State* at Mercer* trending No players score 10+ points... 0-0 1 player score 10+ points... 0-0 2 players score 10+ points... 0-0 3 players score 10+ points... 0-0 4 players score 10+ points... 0-0 5 or more players score 10+ points... 0-0 JU outrebounds opponent... 0-0 JU is outrebounded... 0-0 JU equals opponent s rebounds... 0-0 JU leads at the half... 0-0 JU trails at the half... 0-0 JU is tied at the half... 0-0 Game goes to overtime... 0-0 JU shoots 50% or better... 0-0 JU shoots 40-49%... 0-0 JU shoots 30-39%... 0-0 JU shoots less than 30%... 0-0 Opponent shoots 50% or better... 0-0 Opponent shoots 40-49%... 0-0 Opponent shoots 30-39%... 0-0 Opponent shoots less than 30%... 0-0 JU scores 90+ points... 0-0 JU scores 80-89 points... 0-0 JU scores 70-79 points... 0-0 JU scores 60-69 points... 0-0 JU scores 50-59 points... 0-0 JU scores less than 50 points... 0-0 Opponent scores 90+ points... 0-0 Opponent scores 80-89 points... 0-0 Opponent scores 70-79 points... 0-0 Opponent scores 60-69 points... 0-0 Opponent scores 50-59 points... 0-0 Opponent scores less than 50 points... 0-0 JU in afternoon games... 0-0 JU in night games... 0-0 JU in white uniforms... 0-0 JU in green uniforms... 0-0 JU when it s a great day to be a Dolphin... 0-0 page 8 Game 1 - at Florida State
