Sunday, May 14, 2017 2:05 p.m. CT Cashman Field Las Vegas, Nev. Game #35 Road Game #20 Omaha Storm Chasers (17-17) RHP Luke Farrell (3-1, 4.13) SERIES AT A GLANCE Omaha & Las Vegas face off for the 1st & only time during the 2017 regular season at Cashman Field. The Chasers are coming off a 3-1 series loss in Salt Lake, while the 51s dropped 3 of 4 matchups in Albuquerque. Omaha owned a 3-1 record versus Las Vegas during their 4-game set at Werner Park in 2016. The Chasers crushed 6 homers during that series, with INF Raul Mondesi batting.313 (5-16) with 4 runs, 1 double, 2 triples, 1 HR & 3 RBI in 4 matchups. Mondesi, C Parker Morin (.400, 2-5) & OF Bubba Starling (.182, 2-11) are the only 3 position players on Omaha s current active who faced the 51s with the Chasers last year. The 2 clubs also split their last series meeting at Cashman Field between 8/19-22/15. Omaha & Las Vegas have split their 24 matchups since 2011 evenly at 12-12, including a 4-4 mark at Cashman Field. STORM STORIES OF Billy Burns ranks T-2nd in the PCL with 10 steals. Las Vegas OF Desmond Jennings is the 1st opposing hitter to homer in 3 straight games against the Chasers since Nashville s Brooks Conrad between 4/30-5/2 in 2012. Chasers batters have recorded at least 1 hit in each of their last 1,240 regular season games. The last time the franchise failed to record a hit was a 2-0 loss to the then-oklahoma RedHawks on June 29, 2008. Omaha pitchers have also allowed at least 1 hit in every game since April 17, 1997, when Oklahoma was no-hit. RAUL ROLLING With another hit last night, INF Raul Mondesi has now recorded a hit in 12 of his 14 games with Omaha since joining the club on 4/25. That includes knocks in 12 of his last 13, in addition to reaching base in each of those 13 matchups. Mondesi s 7 steals since joining the Chasers on 4/25 continue to rank 1st among all Triple-A players. He had also scored a run in 5 consecutive contests prior to last night. In 28 career tilts at the Triple-A level, the 21-year-old has tallied hits in 23 of those contests, including 6 of 7 versus the 51s going back to last year. He is also a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts in his Triple-A career. STRONG STARTERS Omaha starters have posted back-to-back quality starts for the 2nd time in a span of 6 contests dating back to 5/7. RHP Christian Binford has recorded 2 of those outings, while RHP Jake Junis & RHP Luke Farrell have the others. The Chasers rotation has totaled 7 quality starts over their last 14 contests after totaling 4 in their 1st 20 games. Omaha starters have combined for a 12-10 record & 3.29 ERA (66 ER/180.2 IP) in 2017, with opponents managing a.233 batting average (162-694) against them. Overall the Chasers have compiled a 3.41 ERA (116 ER/306.0 IP), which ranks 1st in the PCL. SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND Omaha enters today with a 9-4 record in day games this year, compared to an 8-13 clip in night matchups. That includes a 5-2 mark in day games played away from Werner Park. INF Raul Mondesi in his 5 day games this year has compiled a.316 average (6-19) with 4 runs, 2 doubles & 4 steals. INF Ramon Torres, meanwhile, has accrued a.314 tally (16-51) in 12 tilts in daylight, adding 8 runs, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR & 8 RBI. OF Billy Burns has hit.292 (14-48) in 11 day contests, compared to a.254 clip (15-59) over 18 night matchups. CHASERS BATTING LEADERS AVG R. Torres.321 Games R. Torres 32 At-Bats R. HOW SWEEP IT WOULD BE The Chasers today are looking for their 1st 4-game series sweep since the 2015 campaign, when Omaha won all 4 matchups versus Fresno between 8/27-30. The club s last road series 4-game sweep took place at Nashville between 6/18-21 in 2015. In total, the Chasers have recorded 14 series sweeps of 4 games or more in the Werner Park Era (since 2011). The last time Omaha swept Las Vegas in a 4-game series came in 2007 at Rosenblatt Stadium between 8/1-4. TORRID TORRES INF Ramon Torres extended his hit streak to 9 with another knock last night. During that stretch he has posted a.378 average (14-37) with 8 runs, 2 doubles, 1 HR & 6 RBI, with those 14 hits ranking T-7th in the PCL in that span. Included in that stretch are 5 multi-hit efforts. Dating back even further, Torres has tallied a hit in 14 of his last 15 contests since 4/25. He has also accrued a hit in 28 of the 32 games in which he has recorded a plate appearance in 2017. His 43 knocks overall this year rank Torres T-2nd among all Royals farmhands with Wilmington s Nicky Lopez, trailing only Double-A NW Arkansas Frank Schwindel (45). COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH Omaha batters during this series have combined for a.367 average (11-30) with runners in scoring position. The Chasers began the month of May with a.270 mark (20-74) in their 1st 10 contests. In their 21 April matchups, the team combined for a.213 clip (40-188) in those situations. Overall in 2017 the club owns a.241 average (72-299) with runners in scoring position, with INF Dean Anna leading the way with a.476 clip (10-21). INF Ramon Torres has posted the 2nd-best mark on the team with a.333 tally (9-27). The club s 15 sacrifice hits in 2017 are the 2nd-most among PCL teams behind Salt Lake (19). Omaha is on pace for 63 sacrifice hits this season, which would be the most in a campaign since totaling 66 in 2012.
