Welcome from Amputee Golf Australia On behalf of the Board of Amputee Golf Australia I would like to welcome all of you to the 11th Australian Amputee Golf Open. This will be the fifth time that our National event has been held at and so for many of you attending this week I am sure that it will feel like returning home, for those who are experiencing their first visit to this great golf club, I know it will soon feel like home, enjoy your stay. At this time I would like to take the opportunity to especially thank our event sponsors and volunteers. Without the assistance of these wonderful people and companies over the years, our event would no longer exist and we are indebted to them for their support. Please support them in return. Our thanks also extend to the Board, Members and Staff of Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club for allowing us to stage our event at their club. Once again their green-staff have presented us with a well prepared venue and I am certain that you will enjoy playing a challenging course in fine condition. This year we have re-named one age division and introduced another to cater for our ageing population so to speak. The Super Senior Division for those 60 years and above will now be known as our Veterans and those 70 years and above will have the Legends Championship to play for. We hope that these two divisions will give more incentive to those within these age groups to be competitive and also to reap their just rewards. Enjoy your golf, but also make sure that you spend some social time with your fellow competitors and their guests. You are in the company of many fine, friendly and knowledgeable people, take the time get to know them. I guarantee it will enhance your overall experience of attending the Aussie Open, our tournament motto isn t more than golf for no reason at all. Have a Great Week, Happy Golfing and Good Luck! Cheers! Graham Kenyon President, Amputee Golf Australia 3

SECRETARIES Report 2013-2014 First let me thank members for electing me to this position. Though the AGA has not been overly active with correspondence during 2013-2014, there were a few Inward Correspondence Letters. Letters were received from the QAGA and Notices of Acceptances of sponsorship were submitted by new sponsors Hilti Australia, Speciality Products Group, Sunbrella Australia and Fragam Tools. Outward Correspondence as well as a response to QAGA s letter consisted of Sponsorship Letters to Hilti Australia, Fragam Tools, Speciality Products Group, Green Bins and Sunbrella Australia. Several approaches were also made to other various companies and government bodies for sponsorships and funding, but no other favourable responses were received. As you will be able to see, thankfully we continue to receive substantial support from our old guard major sponsor MGA Insurance Brokers, Ossur, Ottobock and Budget Fasteners. Surfside Buslines are once again our Transporters, Summit Press our Printers and the Good Guys once more are providing trophy goods. These stalwarts together with our new sponsors mentioned above are the reason our Open continues to exist, when possible please support them in return. Of course we are most grateful to all of our sponsors both large and small, but a notable mention should be made regarding Denkat Truck Bodies who having sponsored our event last year, have seen fit to considerably increase their support this year and become our second largest sponsor. Lastly, although our overall number of competitors is down this year, we are sure that our promotional plans, proposed venues and reduced costing will help promote an increase in our attendance for 2015 and beyond. Enjoy your week and we look forward to you continuing your support of your event in the future. Yours in Golf Ivan Walker Secretary AGA 5

2013 Australian Amputee Golf Open Report 2013 saw a landmark for amputee golf Downunder with the 10th Anniversary of the Australian Amputee Golf Open being celebrated. Appropriately the event returned to Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club, the home of Australian amputee golf for this celebration and so too did many participants of the Inaugural event which was held in 2004, including Andy Vinten who travelled from England with his lovely wife Margaret to also celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary here in Oz. Being a popular venue of our amputees, the Aussie Open had been held at Cooly on three previous occasions, 2004, 2005 and 2006. The course which is located at the southern end of Australia s Gold Coast, is rated in the top 25 (public accessible) courses in Australia and provides a good test for the elite golfer whilst at the same time being both amputee and long handicapper friendly. Located in such a beautiful part of Australia the surrounding area provides many various activities and points of interest for the visitor, including the Best beaches in the World and World famous surf breaks. We were fortunate to have several International players attend our anniversary including Kenny Bontz USA, Andrew Vinten and Kevin Barby from England, James Hourigan Ireland and our favourite Kiwi Wayne Johnson. Of our visitors Kenny provided the most serious competition for the main event and played some great golf, making the final group of four players for the last round. After a couple of hiccups on the last two holes he eventually came 3rd Overall. However his result didn t seem to deter him from having a great time off the course. Unfortunately long-time competitor, Geoff Nicholas was unable to compete due to work commitments. Usually we are treated to an interesting event with 3 great Aussie golfers vying for our title and this will again be the case in 2014. All have won the event previously and whilst being the best of friends off course they are serious rivals on it. 6

The eventual winner for 2013 was Steve Prior, with Shane Luke a close second. Our Ladies Champion was again Trudy Tassone, Senior Champion Craig Littlechild and Super Senior Graham Kenyon. An interesting side note to our Open winner is that Steve Prior has NEVER been beaten by another arm amputee anywhere, so if you are an army and reckon you ve got the goods, he s waiting to take up your challenge. (Also our Open has never been won by an International player, so there s another challenge). Unfortunately Kenny, Kevin, Andy and Wayne won t be returning this year, but James Hourigan Ireland and Darron Reti from NZ are hoping to provide good competition for our boys. If you are thinking of trying a future Aussie Open we d love to see you! We re a friendly bunch, we serve ice cold beer in copious quantities, have great tucker and enjoy having a fantastic time with our friends both old and new. Not to mention we play a bit of golf in between. 7
