Welcome to the 2017-2018 MGCC Curling Season Are you ready for the season? Make sure your equipment is in good shape....brushes/brooms surfaces are clean and not shedding....grippers are not ripped/torn, and care fully check that the gripping surface has not worn smooth, this is a safety issue....sliders are in good repair and not seriously scratched. Volunteerism during the Curling Season The history of the Markdale Golf and Curling Club is highlighted by the dedication and commitment of its members through the countless hours of volunteerism they contributed to all facets of the organization. In its founding years, members actually helped construct the existing curling building which houses not only our four sheets of ice but also the Golf Pro Shop, Dart League area, Lounge and kitchen facilities. Today, members continue to offer their volunteer services in a variety of ways not only for the Curling Season but also for the Golf Season. To all of them, we are very grateful and hope they continue to do what needs to be done. Curling members, who can no longer volunteer or chose not to, pay an additional fee at the time of registration to offset their volunteer hours. Over the last few years it has been observed that several members volunteer many more hours than is required and some do not complete any at all. It is the individual responsibility of each and every member to complete the minimum number of hours or pay the additional fee. It is not the responsibility of our Manager or any one Board Member to chase after people to complete their commitment. For this year, I have asked Luke Coburn to provide a list of all curling members to be posted on a visible spot in the club so that these hours can be tracked. All of us have different talents and skills that we can offer. Examples of where we can complete our hours include but not limited to: Bonspiel Support (kitchen, bar, general housekeeping of building) Bartending after scheduled league play Weekly housekeeping Crews ( vacuum, clean washrooms, window cleaning, etc) Maintenance Teams (painting inside of lounge, small building repairs, etc.) Outside Maintenance (gardening, trimming of shrubs/bushes, etc.) Kitchen Assistants (for special events dinners, etc.) Chair/Co-Chair a Bonspiel or Event Any other idea members can come up with. Please offer your time to an area that you feel comfortable in and when we all do a little a great deal gets done. Thank you, Wally Selihar Board Member Volunteer Coordinator

SUPPORT OTHER CLUBS SO THEY PLAY HERE As many of you know it is important for you as members to try and support other local curling club events and bonspiels. Not only does this encourage other clubs to reciprocate (making our events easier to fill) it gives other people a chance to learn more about our club and its members. With that in mind here a few ways to participate and/or find more information Grey Bruce Sr. Men Tour Every Wednesday throughout the season sees a different club hosting 2 draws of curling. Curlers from clubs all over Grey and Bruce Counties play 2 8 end games with a lunch provided between games. Each curler will be guaranteed to take home a prize. This is a great chance for our Sr. Men Curlers to see what a bonspiel is like and to visit other local clubs. Entire schedule will be posted at the club during the curling season If interested in playing in some or all of these events, please contact Walter Bosch.
