HangerTalk Issue 09- September 2009 NEXT MEETING September 21 st, 7:30 From the Prez Club President Bob Kleis Hi Guys Saturday, August 29th some of the club members met at the Clark Pleasant Branch of the library to put on a display. It is located on Tracy Rd. in New Whiteland. Five members attended, Bob Bills, Mike Bryant, John Coleman, Wilson Lowe and I. We were there from 1 PM to 4 PM. We had many planes on display of all shapes and sizes and a few small helicopters and a Vapor which Mike was able to fly around the room and land on top of the cabinets. Mike and Wilson had a simulator set up and the kids would gravitate to it. There were several members of the Greenwood Club that stopped by. The event was pretty well attended and the Library director seemed very happy at the end of the day. Thanks to all that helped out. Friday, September 11th, club member Don Seay and I got up early and headed to the Electric Ducted Fan Fly-in at the T.O.R.K.S. field in Grove City, Ohio. It s almost 200 miles so it was quite a drive. We had a really good day. The field is fabulous with a 1000 ft. paved runway. There were lots of electric ducted fan jets present as well as several suppliers and vendors. I flew my Super Airliner and it was well liked by the crowd. The meet is four days, Thursday thru Sunday. Planes ranged from the small "foamies" to the Hangar Talk Page # 1
Bob Violett Electric Super Jets. Lots of flyers. Don Seay brought his new thrust vectoring Hobby Lobby SU-34 with thrust vectoring nozzles. He was unable to fly it as his Futaba 14MZ radio broke a computer screen. One funny thing is that I was on 72 MHz and with all of the flyers there were only 5 or 6 radios in impound as the do not impound 2.4 GHz radios. We also ran into club member Tim Dearth who was having a good time. The highpoint of the day is the speed trials with the fastest electric jet clocking in at 191 MPH and fifth place only dropped to 186 MPH. This speed was achieved at a height of 10 ft or less above the runway. I want to thank everyone who helped out at the Heartnut Festival. I know Denny Runge, Steve Maxwell, Mike Bryant, Wilson Lowe, and Steve Wright helped. I am sure there were others that I didn't mention. Most club members do not realize that work has to be done before and after we put on an event. Fence and flags have to be put up, smokers, tables and supplies have to be drug out of the shed and put together. Someone has to shop for groceries. Someone has to have signup and run the events. I think every club could use volunteers. The next time we have an event, as a club member we all ought to try and do our part. Again, thanks for those how helped Your President Bob Kleis, Jar The VP s Perspective Club Vice President Mike Bryant See you all at the next club meeting. See You Out There Mike Hangar Talk Page # 2

From the Editor Dennis Runge Hi everybody. A very big THANK YOU to all those that helped at the Heartnut Fly-in. Thanks guys, it s very much appreciated. JUST A REMINDER: The last club member to leave field remember to make sure shed and restrooms are locked and secure. Enough said. See you at field. HAPPY FLYING. Denny Club Safety Safety Officer- Steven Maxwell Something was brought to my attention by a club member that I was VERY upset about, and rightly so. Someone was at the field and flying a very big plane flying 3d style, and then proceeded to walk out on the runway and hover the plane over his head. This is never an accepted practice for anyone at anytime. One false move and well you can imagine what could happen. This will not be acceptable practice at JCRCF they will be given one notice and if it happens again then actions will be taken to dismiss them from flying at JCRCF. Come on, use your head, safety is for your own protection. Always be safe Steven Maxwell Safety Officer Hangar Talk Page # 4
Randy s Ramblings Roving Rptr. - Randy Schwersenska Hi Guys and Gals, Man this summer has gone fast. The Heartnut is just around the corner and I have a big heads up. According to the R/C car and truck guys. The Midwest Monster R/C tracks, our new neighbor at JCP has its Grand Opening scheduled on Saturday the 11th of September. The word is they expect up to 200 drivers to attend. Some will camp and I feel sorry for our restrooms. Between their races, our fly-in and spectators this will be a busy piece of property. That s all folks... The Roving Polish Reporter NEW AND IMPROVED WIND THINGY Hangar Talk Page # 5
THIS IS CORESPONDENCE BETWEEN SUSAN SMITH AND PRESIDENT BOB KLEIS Please let me introduce myself to you. My name is Susan Smith and one of my roles in the Center Grove Community School Corporation is to plan an annual Literacy Night celebration. This year our Literacy Night will be held on Tuesday November 10 th from 5:30 8:30 p.m. at Maple Grove Elementary School. Each year we select a theme and create activities, interactive displays, etc. to align with the theme. This year we are celebrating our Veterans. I am hoping that your club might be interested in bringing a radio controlled airplane or two and fly them outside of the elementary school. I don t know if you have interactive opportunities for students (the planes are very expensive) or whether you might do an aerial show. I would love to talk to you about the possibility of building a partnership with your organization. Kind Regards, Susan Smith Susan, Thank you for thinking of us. I am sure we can get a few of the members to fly and display some radio controlled planes. The weather could make it hard and I don't know how late it is light on November 10th, but I will bring it up at the next meeting and let you know. We also have a few micro flyer electric airplanes that can be flown in a gymnasium. I will get back to you. Thanks.
