Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn. New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 1 p.m. ET with trihonda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Ernesto Motta will have the Spanish play-by-play call for the New York Red Bulls Radio and will be live at 1:45 p.m. New York bounced back from a loss for the third time this season with 3-2 win over the Galaxy in LA on Saturday. Saturday s win gave the Red Bulls their first win away from Red Bull Arena this season. The win over the Galaxy also gave New York their first win in a one-goal match, having lost the previous three this season. After scoring the first goal for the Red Bulls on Feb. 22 against CD Olimpia, Daniel Royer ended his league goal-drought with his first of the season against the Galaxy. Royer became the 10th different Red Bull to score in league play and 13th across all competitions. New York s 13 different scorers across all competitions surpass last season s total of 12. At 33-years old, Bradley Wright-Phillips seems to be getting better with age as he shifts from just a goal scorer to a dual threat. Wright-Phillips recorded his first career multi-assist league match against the Galaxy. The English striker has recorded five goals and four assists through seven league matches, which puts him tied for third in goals and tied for fourth in assists, respectively, in MLS. Wright-Phillips is just three assists shy of tying his 2015 career-best mark of seven. New York will hit the road for four of the next five matches, beginning with Colorado (May 12) and Atlanta (May 20) on back-to-back weekends. New York and Colorado clash at Dick s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, May 12 at 9 p.m. ET on MSG, MSG Go and New York Red Bulls Radio. The Red Bulls pushed the envelope in the first half, generating solid chances, which included two good chances from Michael Amir Murillo. Murillo first shot was point blank at Sean Johnson, who made the save with his chest, and the second shot was chipped past Johnson, but hit the post. The second half began with another unluck chance for the Red Bulls as Felipe found himself open about 20-yards out and sent a rocket at net, which hit the cross bar just a minute into the half. Moments late, Sacha Kljestan dribbled towards the six-yard box and lofted a perfect pass to the far post for Bradley Wright-Phillips. Wright-Phillips was open and ready to head it in but R.J. Allen pushed him from behind to send his shot over the net. NYCFC then opened up with a David Villa to Maxi Moralez run-of-play goal for a 1-0 NYC lead in the 56th minute. The Red Bulls followed up by getting a penalty shot 12 minutes later as Allen had a late challenge in the box against Kljestan. Gonzalo Veron lined up and sent in the equalizer, 1-1, in the 70th. CLUB CONNECTIONS New York City FC manager Patrick Vieira was a teammate of Ian Wright, father of Bradley and Shaun Wright-Phillips, at Arsenal from 1996 to 1998. Shaun Wright-Phillips and Vieira played briefly together for Manchester City during the 2010-11 season. Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan Meara spent the 2015 season on loan with NYCFC. Meara was loaned out as part of the first trade between the two clubs. Sean Davis and NYCFC Sebastian Ibeagha were teammates at Duke University from 2011 to 2013. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, New York City FC forward David Villa (67 goals) and New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips (63 goals) rank No. 1 and 2, respectively, in goal scoring since the start of the 2015 season Villa s and NYCFC s first MLS campaign. They will be the clear focal points when they square off at Red Bull Arena. In the six matches in which Wright-Phillips has scored a goal in this series, the Red Bulls hold a 5-1-0 record. Spanish legend Villa is making a run at Wright-Phillips consecutive four-year goal-scoring record. Villa s 67 goals since 2015 have been accrued with 25 regular-season games remaining in 2018. He already ranks No. 4 on this list. In the New York Derby, Villa has tallied four goals and an assist in nine games. Villa did not record a goal or an assist in the first four games of the series (NYCFC went 0-4-0 during this span), but in the five games since, NYCFC has posted a 3-1-1 record, highlighted by Villa s first MLS hat trick on Aug. 6, 2017, for a 3-2 victory. The Red Kit was created in collaboration with adidas to reflect the identity of the club and its supporters. The new Bold Red kit was engineered specifically for the New York Red Bulls by adidas. The stripes and square mesh panels run throughout the fabric of the kit as nods to the buildings and bridges of the city. A drop-hem fit can style on the field and the street. In four league matches that New York has worn the Red jersey, the Red Bulls are a perfect 4-0 and have outscored their opponents, 13-3, when they wear the jersey. NEW DEALS New York recently signed Sean Davis and Daniel Royer to new MLS deals. Davis, 25, has been an integral part of the Red Bulls since his Homegrown deal began in 2015. The Holmdel, New Jersey, native has appeared in 89 matches and started 59 across all competitions. Davis has seen action in all four major competitions, recording six goals and 11 assists. He had his best statistical season last year, starting in 21 of 27 matches with two goals and four assists. Coming through the Red Bulls system, Davis was part of the Red Bulls U-23 team that captured the NPSL Championship in 2014. He capped off the season as a starter in the championship match and assisted the game-winning goal. Davis also spent two seasons with the Red Bulls U-18s, starting 50 matches, which included a team-best 31 starts in his second season. Royer, 27, had a strong 2017 season with the Red Bulls, tallying 12 goals and three assists in 26 games played. The Austrian midfielder caught fire during the month of July, rattling off six league goals over a four-match span to earn MLS Player of the Week and Player of the Month honors. Royer produced at least one point in 13 of the 26 league matches and in all three MLS playoff games last year. Royer has been able to produce offensively across all competitions for New York. In 50 matches played in a Red Bulls shirt, he has tallied 17 goals (13 league, two MLS Cup playoff, one U.S. Open Cup and one Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League). Royer s 17 goals include four game-winning goals in league play, a game-winner against New York City FC in the Open Cup and the go-ahead goal on the road against C.D. Olimpia to earn a crucial 1-1 tie in the SCCL Round of 16. In three years, Marsch has led the team to the 2015 Supporters Shield, three-straight MLS playoff appearances, 2017 U.S. Open Cup final and a quarterfinal appearance of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. Marsch was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2015 after his team posted an 18-10-6 record, tied for best overall with FC Dallas, and a league-best +19 goal differential. The 18 wins set a new franchise record, as did 12 wins at home, and 60 points earned. Marsch s side led MLS in scoring in 2015 with 62 goals, and was only shut out twice during the regular season. The Red Bulls also allowed the fewest goals in the Eastern Conference. Before joining the Red Bulls, Marsch was the head coach of the Montreal Impact during the club s inaugural season in 2012. Marsch led the Impact to 12 wins in the club s first season, the most wins by an expansion club since 1998, when the Chicago Fire, with Marsch and current assistant Chris Armas in the midfield, took the league by storm, winning the 1998 MLS Cup and 1998 U.S. Open Cup. Marsch also has experience coaching with the US Men s National Team, serving as Bob Bradley s assistant for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 Gold Cup. The USMNT advanced to the knockout round in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and to the tournament final in the 2011 Gold Cup. Marsch opened his tenure with a seven-game unbeaten streak, the longest in MLS that season. New York spent the entire season at or near the top of the Eastern Conference standings, and went 14-5-1 over the last 20 games on the run to the Supporters Shield. Marsch s side was also tough on the road, posting the second-most road wins in MLS with a 6-7-4 record, scoring the most road goals (27) and finishing as the only team in MLS with a positive road goal differential. In 2016, Marsch s side started slow, opening the season with a 1-6-0 run. Despite the poor start, the club went on a 20-game unbeaten run to end the regular season, spanning 16 MLS matches and all four group stage games of the CONCACAF Champions League. The Red Bulls finished 16-9-9, again the best record in the Eastern Conference. During the 2017 season, Marsch guided New York in three different competitions, playing in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals, reaching the U.S. Open Cup final and appearing in the MLS playoffs for the third consecutive season. The Red Bulls finished sixth in Eastern Conference with a 14-12-8 mark. Marsch enters his fourth season with as the franchise s leader with 48 regular-season wins, surpassing both Hans Backe and Octavio Zambrano last season, who each have 41. The Racine, Wisconsin native enjoyed an impressive playing career as well, winning three MLS Cups and four US Open Cup Championships during 14 years in the league with D.C. United, Chicago Fire and Chivas USA. Marsch, an MLS original, made 321 appearances in 14 seasons, scoring 31 goals and 40 assists. He remains among the all-time leaders in Chicago Fire history, sixth all-time in appearances (200), starts (182), and minutes played (16,300). His 19 goals for the Fire are the ninth most in club history, and his 29 assists rank seventh amongst all Chicago players. During his playing days, Marsch played for four Coaches of the Year in Bruce Arena (1997 D.C. United), Bob Bradley (1998 Chicago Fire), Dave Sarachan (2003 Chicago Fire) and Preki (2007 Chivas USA). Along with a successful career in MLS, Marsch earned two Caps with the U.S. Men s National Team. In college, Marsch was a two-year captain at Princeton University, a two-time first team All-Ivy League member and a first team All-American in 1995. Marsch most recently served as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, helping the Tigers to a 2014 Ivy League Championship. 17 17
