CCC Welcomes New May Members Greg Diller ~ Junior Member Dennis Maradei ~ Social Stephen Marsha ~ Social Dustin New ~ Social Rebecca Krumwiede ~ Social Hayden Caldwell ~ Youth Jodi Farrell ~ Social Dear Members, It is an honor to be writing to you as President of Columbia Country Club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jay Otterbacher for his service this past year as well as the others rotating off the board. At our annual stockholder meeting on May 20th, Jay outlined the key components of how, despite the myriad of maintenance issues that arose and the severe weather over past 12 months, our club has endured and is on sound financial footing. Jay expressed his vision for CCC to operate on the dreams and principles of our Club leadership in 1962 when the club was moved. We have ruthlessly manage operations, revenue to expenses managed and not spending money we don t have. Continue to enhance the member experience. Growing the game thru Junior Golf, preserving our friendly country club atmosphere; and, lastly, attracting and retaining quality members are ways we can achieve that vision. I would like to present our board which includes the newly elected additions of Howard VanDine, Mike Rivers and Barry Reynolds. Keith Chichester, President Les Wiser, Vice President Jeff Folley, Treasurer Howard VanDine, Secretary Tom Price, co-chair Finance Committee Phil Jenkins, Sports Committee Randy Taylor, House Committee Mike Rivers, Membership Committee Barry Reynolds, Greens Committee The board thanks those that have served over the past year on the various committees for their service. It is thru your work that the club's board is able to function efficiently. I would encourage our members to respond to Jay's challenge at the annual meeting and be a part of making this club yours by serving on a committee. Please reach out to us and let us know which committee you would like to be a part of. Also Committee chairs will be reaching out and asking for your service. Committee commitments run from June to May and usually consist of one meeting a month. CCC President

Friday, June 12th Sunday, June 14th Columbia CC is honored to host a PGA Junior Series Tournament for the second consecutive year. The event is played over three days and allows us to showcase our club to the top junior players from all over the world. Due to the competition, Ridgewood and Tallpines will be closed to member player until 1 hour after the last group has teed off Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lakeside will be available for member play all three days. This year marks the 20th year of the PGA Junior Series. The mission of the PGA Junior Series is to provide and promote the enjoyment of golf to junior golfers through affordable and competitive playing opportunities in professionally supervised events organized by The PGA of America and supported by PGA Professionals throughout the country. The PGA Junior Series continues to provide global and national exposure for each of the Tournaments. Each event is Nationally Ranked in the Golfweek/Titleist Performance Index and the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Approximately one-half of the participants in each field are from the host-state and one-half are from outside the hoststate. The boy 15-18 and overall girl winners for all eight events will earn exemptions into the Junior PGA Championship at Miramont Country Club in College Station, Texas on August 3-6, 2015. Since its establishment in 1996, the PGA Junior Series has conducted 197 events in 42 states. Boys and girls ages 12-18 have participated from six continents, more than 30 countries and all 50 states with an average participation rate of 20 states per event. With no membership fee and professionally run national junior events. The PGA Junior Series is the most cost effective road to college golf. FLAG DAY TOURNAMENT Saturday, July 4th Entry Fee: $5 In this event everyone buys an American Flag for $5 and puts their flag in the ground when they reach their handicap. (For example, Joe is a 10 handicap, he would put his flag in the ground where his 82nd shot lands (par 72 + 10 handicap). The flag that makes it the farthest, wins a prize. After the cost of the flags and prizes are deducted, the balance of the funds will be donated to a Veterans organization or the Red Cross on behalf of CCC. Please make plans to participate in this fun event for a good cause. THANK YOU!!! The rainy spring has given way to a dry beginning of summer. May allowed less than.4 of rain over the first 4 weeks of the month, but the golf course has dried out nicely and conditions could not be better at CCC! Last month we applied a fertilizer to all fairways, tees and around bunkers. We have begun spraying some problematic weeds around the course, as well as, in the natural areas and will continue throughout the coming months. In addition, we have changed several mowing patterns that produced some new chipping areas around greens and bunkers. June will be a hectic month maintaining the course between our busy tournament schedule. However, we are planning to sod around various bunkers and weak areas, as well as, adding drainage between 12 and 15. Also, we will begin aerifying weak areas in the rough, high traffic areas and some tees. Enjoy the golf course and thanks for your support! Golf Course Superintendent DID YOU KNOW? Over the last 6-8 years state budgets have been slashed in response to the economic downturn. Many of the turf research programs at local universities were eliminated or funds were substantially reduced. I would like to bring to everyone s attention a golf auction currently underway called Rounds 4 Research. Proceeds from this program will help conduct future turfgrass research here in the Carolinas, which will likely prove beneficial to CCC. But the most exciting part of the program is the vast opportunities at some of the best courses across the Carolinas. Rounds of golf at more than 250 golf courses in North and South Carolina will be available to the public for online bidding, June 8-21, offering access for golfers that otherwise might not have been possible. The auction is available through www.rounds4research.com. Did You Know? Rounds4Research has donated over $250,000 to Clemson and North Carolina State Universities to fund turfgrass research! I want to thank everyone that supported the Member /Guest Golf Tournament last month. The event was a HUGE success, for those that missed it make plans for next year s event, you won t be disappointed. I also want to thank the house committee, donors and those that supported our first silent auction. The auction raised $5500 that will be used to replace the signs at both ends of Columbia Club Drive, the ceiling fans on the screen porch, new menu covers and sprucing up of the breezeway. THANK YOU!! The tournament program is in full swing and we have enjoyed good participation in all the club events so far. We look forward to a busy summer with club events and junior clinics scheduled throughout. I would like to encourage everyone to play in tournaments to test your game and enjoy some friendly competition. It is also a great way to meet new members. In closing, I would like to thank Eric, Robbie and all the outside guys for their continued hard work and dedication. These guys put in a lot of hours and are continually striving to better serve the members. Thanks Guys! PGA Golf Professional
