Crafts and Cranks Crafts and Crank is a bike race and beer festival wrapped into one. Bring the family, there are lots of fun things for everyone to do; climbing wall, bounce house, ferris wheel, music, and of course bike racing and beer tasting. To participate in the festival, you may purchase a festival pass. Note, there will be a High Air and Pump Track competition over the weekend, as well as a cross-country, a downhill race and a Kids Enduro. NEW FOR 2018 ~ KIDS 2 STAGE ENDURO RACE. This is for kids 12 and under who are just getting into riding and want to give it a try. The race will take place in the Snow Summit Base Area. Fee is $30.00. No lift ticket required. Race day lift tickets are included. You can purchase a lift ticket for Friday s practice for $25.00 on the CES registration site or at the venue during packet pick-up. Your entry fee also includes a free T-shirt and one beer for those 21 and older. Registration includes: Pro / Expert: 5 stages of racing; Sport / Beginner: 5 stages of racing; chip timing by Team Big Bear. All racers will do 2 stages on Saturday and 3 stages on Sunday. KIDS RACE Kids Race This will be a 2 stage Enduro for kids 12 and Under. Both stages will take place in the Snow Summit Base Area. It is designated for kids who want to give Enduro racing a try but are not ready to head to the top of the mountain. No lift ticket will be needed as the kids will pedal to the top of each stage. Fee is $30.00. No lift ticket included or required. To register, please print an entry form from www.teambigbear.com on the Crafts and Cranks page. Email the completed form to teambigbear@aol.com or fax to 909.585.1078. You can also register at the event. License Requirements Racers do not need to purchase a license. If you are a UCI or USAC license holder you are not covered under their insurance. Only competitors holding an EMBA membership will be eligible for Enduro World Series qualifying points. Waivers All competitors must complete an event waiver / release of liability in order to compete. Minors: If you are under 18 you will need your parent or legal guardian to complete the waiver. If you are traveling alone as a minor, you must bring a signed waiver or you will not be allowed to compete. Go to www.teambigbear.com, Crafts and Cranks and download a waiver. Protection Requirements Full face helmet will be required by CES for this race. Helmets must be worn at all times if you don t want to climb in a full face, either carry 2 helmets (fullface for race stages and half-helmet for climbing) or use a helmet with removable chin bar. Course Description PRO / EXPERT: Transfers: Transfers will be both lift serve and non lift serve. Bottom to top transfer will be 1100 ft of climbing. Courses: The courses will be split between the Bike Park, and trails outside of the park. The Bike Park includes lots of features: jumps, berms etc. The trails outside the bike park expect Moderate (blue), to Difficult (Black) but no double Black.
Race Order and Start Procedure Start Lists with all individual racer start times for Stage 1 will be posted at registration. All categories will do 2 stages on Saturday and 3 stages on Sunday. Stage Race Order: Racers will have pre-assigned start times for the first stage the actual start will be recorded electronically. It is up to the rider to start their first transfer to make it to the first stage start for their start time. Racer must start with their front wheel behind the start line, and one foot down on the ground (no track-stand starts) Racers will be given a 5 second countdown to their start. Racers starting or lifting their down foot prior to the start will be assessed a 1 minute penalty. Racers arriving late to the start must follow the starter s orders and join the course when instructed to do so. Failure to follow starter s order will result in a suitable time penalty. Any racers arriving at the start of a race stage later than 15 minutes after their specified start time will be assigned a DNS for that stage and should proceed to the next stage. Course Cutting Course cutting or taking short cuts in order to gain an advantage is not allowed. Riders not following the designated route will be disqualified. Bike Rules The bike that you begin the race on is the bike that you will use for the entire event with the exception of flat tire repair. No bike and/or equipment changes are allowed. Any infractions will result in disqualification. Race Progress This Enduro event needs to keep moving/progressing without breaks and ghosts (30 sec start time, no rider) in timing. All riders are strongly encouraged to make continuous progress. Stopping for lunch, social visits or the like may prevent you from riding one or more of the final stages. Shuttling No shuttling will be allowed. This will result in disqualification. Outside Assistance (During the Race) Any competitor receiving outside assistance from a non-racer without prior agreement from the Chief of Race will be disqualified. This includes using a team staff/outside help to carry equipment around the course or perform repairs during the race. Exception: During the transition between stages once racers are back to the Base Area they are permitted to obtain technical/mechanical assistance. Neutral tech support will be located at the base area. Altering the Course
Any participant altering the course will be disqualified. Practicing Outside of Designated Practice Times Riding race stages outside of designated practice times is prohibited and will result in disqualification. See the rules posted on the California Enduro Series website www.californiaenduroseries.com/ Timing and Results All riders will be timed by a chip attached to the back of their race plate. Please do not bend the plate when attaching it to your bike as it may damage or interfere with the timing chip. Please notify a finish official if you will not be completing a stage or the race. In case of withdrawal from one Special Stage, the racer is allowed to take part in the rest of the Special Stages. However, the rider will not be included in the General Classification (overall rankling) of the race. Live results available at Racemine.com Claims and Penalties Marshalls will be situated along the course to monitor for any rule violations. Claims regarding the race progress itself or the attitude of other riders must be put forward to the Race Director (located in the venue) within 30 minutes of the race finish of the last rider. The Race Director is authorized to give additional penalties that are not listed in the CES rules in the case of a rider who fails to respect the other riders, the spirit of the sport, the environment or the organization. Shuttling During the official course inspection, the transport of riders between Special Stages by private/team transport (shuttling) is strictly limited to paved roads. A rider found using a private or team vehicle on a closed/private dirt road or tack will be disqualified. During the race, no private/team transport can be used at any time. Emergency Response Emergency Response personnel will be on course during the race, identifiable with a red jacket and white cross. If you approach an injured rider please check to ensure they are ok. -Please let the nearest course marshal know if there is an injured rider. If the rider is unconscious then please stay with them until the EMT or course marshal arrives. We will stop the event for a serious injury and will do our best to restart the affected riders.
