THE PASSPORT INSTRUCTIONS Set sail for discovery and adventure. Stamp your passport as you chart a course for distant waters; explore new places ashore; expand your sailing skills and most importantly, have fun! The goal is to get away from the dock and complete a subset of the objectives in each of six categories: Anchorages Do at least Ten Destinations Do at least five Events Do at least five Skills Do at least five Leadership Do at least three Lighthouse Spotting Do at least five OOPS Hopefully you don t have any, but if you do, they won t count against you. When they happen, they usually make for a great story! Complete your adventure in a single season or over many seasons; there is no time limit. All objectives must be accomplished after the 2013 Spring Planning Meeting. Sorry, prior adventures do not count. Adventurers that complete the minimum objectives earn the right to purchase and fly the NSHSA Bay Explorer Burgee. Be the first on your dock to own the bragging rights! STAYING IN TOUCH Although e-mail, the website www.nshsa.org and our Facebook page Northern Star Hunter Sailing Association are good ways to keep up with Club events, the absolute best method to hear current information is via VHF Channel 78! On the bay, NSHSA members monitor VHF 78. In addition to the scheduled raft-ups listed on the website, impromptu raft-ups occur almost every weekend. To find out what s going on, listen to VHF 78 or simply hail Any NSHSA member. FAVORITE PLACES So, where do NSHSA members go on the weekends? It s fair to say the wind dictates our destination, but there are a few favorite places where one can usually find other club members. Favorite spots are Worton Creek (inside or outside), Swan Creek, Bodkin Creek, or inside the Magothy. Use the notes section to record companion boats, weather or interesting facts.

RAFT- UP INSTRUCTIONS ANCHOR BOAT The Skipper of the Anchor Boat is responsible for: Selecting a location with enough swing room and depth to accommodate all of the boats expected in the raft Ensuring sufficient scope is deployed to support the additional windage and weight of the raft. JOINING VESSELS The Skipper of a vessel joining the raft is responsible for: Communicating with the Anchor Boat on VHF 78, requesting instructions and side preference. Providing 2 adequately sized dock lines, fore and aft. Providing 2 adequately sized spring lines, crossed fore and aft. Providing 2 or more adequately sized fenders. RAFT INTEGRITY All Skippers are responsible for raft integrity and safety: Monitoring conditions Monitoring raft size, balance, ground tackle holding, swing room, and general sense of stability. THINGS TO CONSIDER Weather and Waves if the boats are bouncing too much, it s safer to anchor separately. The Weather Forecast breaking up the raft in the middle of the night is not fun. Spreader Alignment Separate the spreaders fore and aft so that rocking does not cause them to bump.
