Please carefully read the following rules and regulations. 2018-2019 TERMS & CONDITIONS Registration Process Online Registration: Entries must be submitted through our online registration system. To do so, please visit our website http://udsuk.co.uk under the Register tab where you will be redirected to Dance Comp Genie to complete your registration. Or you can access it directly from http://udsuk.dancecompgenie.com/ Payments and Fees: All entry fees must be paid via our online registration, which can be completed through a Paypal account or a debit/credit card. You are not considered officially registered until we have received PAYMENT IN FULL. If you have not paid, Ultimate Dance Showcase UK reserves the right to give away your spaces. Competition Schedules Scheduling: A schedule with entry numbers and the time that your routine(s) will be competing, will be emailed to all studio/school representatives at least TEN DAYS prior to the competition date. We will not be able to provide any information as to when your entries are performing until our schedule has been fully completed. Performance Times: All entries must compete on the day and time assigned. Timing is subject to change and is at the sole discretion of Ultimate Dance Showcase UK. Please alert UDS UK staff if there are any scheduling issues. Entry Types Solo: 1 performer Duet/Trio: 2-3 performers Small Group: 4-9 performers Large Group: 10-19 performers Production: 20+ performers
Age Divisions -All age divisions are calculated based on the average age of the duet/trio or group. Age divisions will be assigned for you automatically in our online registration system based on the date of birth information you provide. Our registration system drops the decimal point when averaging the ages. For example, if the age average is 14.5, they would compete in the teen (12-14) age division. -In the event that a protest regarding age occurs, all competitors must be prepared to present proof of age. All protests must be presented in writing and signed within 30 minutes to the executive director of Ultimate Dance Showcase UK. Mini: ages 8 and under Junior: ages 9-11 Teen: ages 12-14 Senior: ages 15-19 Adult: Age 20+ Time Limits Please note: Overtime will result in automatic point deduction of ¼ point for every 5 seconds of overtime. Solos: 2:00 minutes Duo/Trio: 2:45 minutes Small Group: 3:00 minutes Large Group: 4:00 minutes Production: 5:00 minutes Music Contestants are required to email their own music as an mp3 or m4a format to info@udsuk.co.uk at least 10 days before the event. We strongly suggest that you also bring a backup on a CD or ipod device in case of a technical issue. Please label your music and send in the following format: Song: The name of your routine Artist: The name of your studio/school
Dance Categories Acro: Routine that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Ballet: Routine that includes classical ballet steps and technique. Ballet slippers only. Contemporary: Routine that combines both lyrical and modern movements. Hip-Hop: Routine that includes street dance styles performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. Jazz: Routine that consists of primarily jazz technique. Lyrical: A combination of jazz and ballet techniques to slow music with lyrics to inspire movements to express emotions. Musical Theatre: Routine that features any style of dance that interprets a song from a Broadway Show or Movie Musical (backing vocals permitted, but microphones may be limited). Open: Routines in this category can either be a combination of multiple genres or ones that may not fall into any other dance division. Pointe: Routine must include classical ballet pointe technique. Pointe shoes only. Tap: Routine must include tap technique and primarily tap work. Please no pre-recorded tap sounds in music. Vocal: Vocal presentation. Accompaniment must be pre-recorded. (No lead vocals may be recorded; only backup vocals will be permitted). Microphone will be provided. Levels Ultimate Dance Showcase UK has TWO levels. Novice and Competitive. Ultimate Dance Showcase UK does not know the experience level of the competitors and it is the teachers own decision when choosing a level for their students. Assigning Levels: Studios/schools will be required to assign a level for each dancer/routine when they are entered into our registration system. Novice: This level is for beginning dancers ONLY who have little or no experience competing. Entries will be adjudicated and will receive High Score Awards within this level. This division is not eligible for Title Awards. Competitive: This level is for experienced dancers or those who do not wish to enter into the novice level. All competitive entries will be adjudicated, eligible for all awards and to compete in the Title Division.
Awards System Point System: Each entry will be competing based on a pre-determined amount of points (see below). Judge s Critiques: All judge s critiques will be on a video with audio commentary. You will be able to access your score sheets and critiques via your dashboard on your online registration account. Please note that all scoring is FINAL. Scoring and critiques are given from our esteemed panel of judges, which may vary from event to event. Scoring Breakdown: Score out of 300 total points Each judge can award up to 100 points 290-300 points: Ultimate Platinum 286-289 points: Ultimate High Gold 280-285 points: Ultimate Gold 276-279 points: Ultimate High Silver 270-275 points: Ultimate Silver 269 points and below: Ultimate Bronze Individual Judges Scoring out of 100 points: 25 points: Performance Overall performance of the dancers. Including facial expressions, connection with the music/story, connection with the audience/judges, connection with other performers on stage. 25 points: Choreography Formations are interesting/clear, includes different levels and variation, choreography is appropriate for all dancers based on age and experience. 25 points: Technique The level of technical proficiency for the specific dance division. 25 points: Music The music adheres to the time limit requirements for the general division. Music is appropriate for the age of the performers and contains no explicit content. Additional Awards: High Scores: High scores will be awarded for each age/dance category (ie. Top Teen Contemporary Solo Novice). A 1 st place trophy will only be awarded if there are 2 or more routines in the specific divisions. Overall High Scores: Overall high scores will be awarded. This will be the highest scoring routines of that session including all age/dance categories in both novice and competitive levels (ie.top Teen Solo Novice). Overall Top Score: The overall top score of session/day will be awarded to the highest scoring routine. This includes all ages, entry types and dance categories.
Judge s Awards: Judge s awards are given out during each award ceremony and are created by the judge s, for a routine of their choice. Choreography Awards: Choreography awards are given out during each award ceremony and are presented to the choreographers from the judges. Title Division A 5 entry fee is required to enter for a chance to win Title. All Title entries will be judged during the performance of their chosen routine during the competition. Title Awards will be given out during the award ceremony in which that solo routine was performed. Please be advised, only one Title entry per dancer is allowed (this means if you have more than one solo, you can only enter one for Title). Dancers are eligible to win Title at more than one regional competition; however, this must be with a different routine. For example, if you enter with Solo A at Birmingham, you cannot win with Solo A at Kent. Mini Miss/Mr. Ultimate Dance Showcase (ages 8 and under) Junior Miss/Mr. Ultimate Dance Showcase (ages 9-11) Teen Miss/Mr. Ultimate Dance Showcase (ages 12-14) Senior Miss/Mr. Ultimate Dance Showcase (ages 15-19) Entry Fees General Division Fee Time Limit Extras Solo (1 performer) 32 per person 2:00 minutes Title Competition: 5 Duet/Trio (2-3 45 per routine 2:45 minutes Small Group (4-9 10 per person 3:00 minutes Large Group (10-19 10 per person 4:00 minutes Production (20+ 8 per person 5:00 minutes Props and Backstage Area Props: No dangerous props may be used on stage such as fire, swords, or knives. Please label all props with your studio/school name and notify the backstage manager before your routine performs. Checking in backstage: Teachers should check their students in backstage five routines before they are due to perform. Dancers/Teachers will not be permitted backstage and will be asked to wait in the dressing room/holding area until they are within the next three routines at that time in the running order.
Photo/Video Photo: Professional photos will be available for purchase during and after UDS UK events. Attendees are not permitted to take professional quality photos of the performances. Mobile phone photos for the purpose of personal use are allowed on the condition that NO FLASH is used at the risk of disturbing the performers. Social Media: We encourage participants and attendees to share their photos on social media, we welcome you to use #udsuk! All professional photos shared by Ultimate Dance Showcase UK and Anna Clare Photography are the sole property of UDS UK (@ultimatedanceshowcaseuk) and Anna Clare Photography (@annaclarephotography) unless individually purchased. Anyone who uses a professional photo from UDS UK or Anna Clare Photography for their own marketing/advertising MUST purchase the photo prior to doing so. If you violate these terms, you will be asked to remove the photo until it has been purchased. Video: Videotaping is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Professional videos of routines will be available for purchase during and after UDS UK events. This is to ensure the security of all the dancers involved as well as to uphold the integrity of the choreographic work being performed. Any attendee that violates this rule will be asked to delete their videos immediately. Additional Information 1. All contestants grant permission to Ultimate Dance Showcase UK to use their photographs and/or videos for promotional purposes. 2. Ultimate Dance Showcase UK and the hosting facility are NOT responsible for personal injury or property loss/damage. 3. ALL competitors are the sole responsibility of their dance school/studio and/or parental guardian. Ultimate Dance Showcase UK is NOT responsible for chaperoning any competitor. All entrants must be chaperoned by a nominated adult at any competition run by Ultimate Dance Showcase UK. The studio/school nominated chaperones are accountable for the behavior and welfare of minors at all of our events. 4. NO REFUNDS will be issued. 5. The Ultimate Dance Showcase UK rules and regulations will be evaluated and enforced on an individual basis, based on what is best for all parties involved. 6. Sportsmanlike behavior is expected at all times. Failure to do so could result in immediate disqualification. 7. Spectators/members of the audience are expected to treat all competitors with respect and refrain from making unnecessary noise or movement during performances. 8. VIDEO TAPING AND PHOTOGRAPHY IS STRICTYLY PROHIBITED. 9. No form of liquids (including water), gels, aerosols, glitter, or confetti, etc. which may affect the stage surface, may be used during a routine. 10. No additional sound equipment may be used or connected to the Ultimate Dance Showcase UK sound system. 11. Admission is free to spectators.
