COL took an early lead on a two-run HR by IF Zach Walters in the 1 st. LOU cut the lead in half with a solo HR by IF Chris Dominguez (9) in the bottom of the 2 nd. COL extended its lead to 5-1 in the 3 rd on a RBI single by OF James Ramsey and another two-run HR by Walters. OF Josciel Veras then made it a 5-3 game with a two-run single in the 5 th, but COL pushed the lead to 6-3 on a solo HR by OF Anthony Gallas in the 6 th. C Chris Berset doubled in a run in the 7 th but COL added a final run in the 9 th, and LOU fell 7-4. RHP Dylan Axelrod (L, 6-8, 4.68) suffered the loss for LOU, giving up 5er on 5h (2hr) with 4k (0bb) in 3.0ip. RHP Jarrett Grube (W, 9-0, 2.26) earned the win for COL, allowing 3r (1er) on 4h (1hr) and 1bb with 5k in 5.0ip. RHP C.C. Lee (S, 5) did not allow a hit as he held LOU scoreless with 2k and 1hbp in 1.1ip. CAN T STOP THE BLEEDING: LOU s season-worst losing streak was extended to 9g with last night s loss. The last time LOU had an 9g losing streak was when LOU lost a franchise-worst 12g from 8/7/13-8/19/13. Six of the losses in LOU s current skid came on the road as LOU went winless over its 6g road trip, the first winless road trip of 6g or more since 7/26/91-8/1/91 when the Redbirds went winless on a 7g road trip (3g at Iowa, 4g at Omaha). LOUISVILLE S LOSS BY THE NUMBERS: LOU collected just 6h for the second straight night. LOU is 10-34 when registering 6h or fewer, and 5-11 when collecting exactly 6h LOU allowed 13h in last night s game. LOU is 4-23 when allowing 13h or more, and 3-8 when allowing exactly 13h Both LOU and COL had 11 strikeouts in last night s game. LOU is now just 2-8 when both teams fan more than 10 batters in a game. ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE ATTENDEES: RHP Layne Somsen will be LOU s lone representative in the Arizona Fall League this season. Somsen has appeared in 14g (3gs) for LOU this season with a 2.83era (9er in 28.2ip). Somsen is one of seven players from the Reds organization, and one of four Reds pitchers, headed to the AZL. He will be joined by fellow Reds farmhands RHP Stephen Johnson (PEN), RHP Nick Travieso (Daytona), RHP Zack Weiss (PEN), C Chad Wallach (Daytona), IF Alex Blandino (PEN) and OF Phillip Ervin (PEN). The Reds representatives will join farmhands from ATL, BAL, SD and SEA on the Peoria Javelinas. AZL play beings on 10/12 and runs through 11/21. BOESCH BACK IN THE VILLE: Yesterday, OF Brennan Boesch (bruised right ankle) began a rehab assignment with LOU and went 0-for-4 in last night s game. Boesch has appeared 48g with LOU from 6/20-8/18 before being recalled by CIN on 8/19. In his first stint with LOU, Boesch batted.331 with 7 2b, 4hr, 17r and 28rbi, and appeared in just 4g with CIN, following his 8/19 recall, before injuring his ankle. He has appeared in 36g for CIN this season in all. Friday, RHP Dylan Axelrod was outrighted to LOU after being designated for assignment on 9/1. Axelrod took the loss in last night s game as he allowed 5er on 5h (2hr) with 4k (0bb). STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE: By the end of the season, the Bats will have played a total of 93 games against teams with a.500 record at the time of their meeting. The 93 games will be the highest total since Reds affiliation began in 2000. The previous high was 76 games in 2006. LOU is 37-52 in these games thus far. LOU is 39-55 this year against teams currently with a winning record. POWER OUTAGE: LOU has hit 65hr as a team. If the season ended today, that would be the lowest total since the 1990 Redbirds hit just 54hr. 47 of LOU s 65hr have been solo HR (72%). LOU has yet to have a player record a multi-hr game this season, though the franchise has had at least one multi-hr effort every season of its existence since 1982. Chris Dominguez grand slam 4/18 vs. IND remains the only slam on the season for LOU. LOU last hit just one slam in 2011 (Danny Dorn, 6/5/11 at COL). The Bats smashed seven slams in 2012 and then three in both 2013 and 2014. OFFENSIVELY LOW HIGHS: Chris Dominguez leads LOU with 18 2b. The lowest total for the team leader in 2b in franchise history is 23 by Casey Parsons in 1985. Yorman Rodríguez (currently on the DL) leads LOU with 10hr. The lowest total for the team leader in homers in franchise history is also 10, done by both Parsons and Gary Rajsich in 1985. Irving Falú leads LOU with 43rbi. The lowest total for the team leader in RBI in franchise history is 56 by Jack Ayer in 1985. POTENTIAL FRANCHISE LOWS: LOU could set a new franchise-low for runs scored in a season. LOU has scored just 502r this season, 12r shy of the franchise-worst 514r scored in 1991. LOU is going to score fewer than 600r for the fourth consecutive season after scoring at least 600r every season from 1997-2011 LOU also has league-low 455rbi, 8rbi shy of it s season-worst mark, 463rbi, set in 1988 when LOU also had a franchise-low 51hr LOU has hit 201 2b this season, one 2b shy of the franchise-worst 202 2b in 1990. INDIANS AT A GLANCE: IND (82-60) is T-1st with COL (82-60) atop the IL West, but has already clinched a playoff berth. IND is 3rd in the IL in batting (.259), but is 7th in the IL in runs (575). IND starters own the best ERA in the IL (3.11), and have racked up the fourth-most strikeouts (1024). LOU is 13-10 vs. IND this season and has outhit IND 187-178 and outscored them 72-65. IND is batting.233 vs. LOU this season while LOU is batting.241 vs. IND. Tonight s starter, RHP Tyler Glasnow s only appearance vs. LOU came on 8/27 at LSF. Glasnow held LOU scoreless on 1h and 2bb with 5k over 6.0ip, but did not factor in the decision as LOU won the game, 2-1, thanks to a two-run HR by OF Juan Silva in the 7 th. LOU has lost nine consecutive since that win on 8/27. THEFT ALERT: LOU has caught just two of the last 29 attempted base stealers. LOU has the second-worst caught-stealing percentage at 21.1% (LHV leads the IL catching 36.9% of potential base stealers). LOU has had 147 steals attempted against (4 th most in the IL) and has allowed 116sb (3 rd most in the IL). LOU catchers 31cs are also the T-3 rd -fewest in the IL (BUF and ROC both have 30cs). CAN T KICK THE HABIT: LOU s loss Sunday night was its 73 rd, guaranteeing the team a losing season. The 2015 season extends the longest streak of consecutive losing seasons in LOU franchise history from three to four. LOU can also finish the season no better than 10g und er.500. This will be the 10 th season in franchise history (since 1982) in which LOU finishes the year 10g under.500 or worse, but just the fourth such season since becoming a Reds affiliate in 2000. LOU (63-78) is 18.0gb of IND (81-60) in the IL West and has been eliminated from postseason contention. LOU can finish no better than 17.0gb and LOU will finish the season more than 10.0gb for the fifth consecutive season, and finish at least 15.0gb for the 10 th time in franchise history, fourth since becoming a Reds affiliate in 2000. The Bats have not made the postseason since 2010 when they went 79-64, winning the division by 0.5 game. LOU s lone Governors Cup Championship came in 2001 when they finished 84-60, winning the division by 16.5 games. In the postseason they went on to defeat NOR in five games, 3-2, and defeated SWB for the IL Championship in an abbreviated one-game series because of the 9/11 attacks. STRUGGLING STARTERS: With RHP Carlos Contreras earning the win on 8/27, and LOU s nine consecutive loss since, the last LOU starter other than RHP Michael Lorenzen to earn a win was LHP John Lamb on 8/8 at DUR. And the most recent win by a LOU starter who is currently on the roster other came on 7/28 when RHP Robert Stephenson earned the win vs. CHA. Not including Lorenzen, LOU starters are 3-15 with a 4.80era (77er in 144.1ip) since 8/1 and have averaged just under 4.2ip per start over that span. Meanwhile, LOU relievers are 5-8 and have posted a 3.19era (48er, 135.1ip) since 8/1. With LOU in August, Lorenzen went 2-1 with a 1.13era (3er in 24.0ip) and averaged 8.0ip per start. WILD WILD WEST: LOU is 27-38 vs. the IL West this season, the worst divisional record of any team in the IL. LOU has been outscored 270-214, but has been outhit just 558-535. Of LOU s 65g vs. the IL West, 44g have been decided by 3r or fewer, 34g have been decided by 2r or fewer and 27g by 1r. LOU is 13-14 in one-run games vs. the IL West and is 8-13 in games vs. the IL West decided by 4r or more. LOU is one divisional win shy its mark of 28 wins and 35 loss vs. IL West opponents last season. ROSTER REVOLVING DOOR: Thursday, C Chad Tromp started behind the dish for LOU, making his Triple-A and LOU debut, becoming the 69 th different player to appear in a game for LOU this season. Of the 69 players, 31 are position players and 38 are pitchers. Tromp sappearance pushed LOU past last season s mark of 68 different players. Since affiliation with CIN began in 2000, the most players LOU has used in a season was 74 in 2003. All players on LOU s current roster have appeared for LOU this season.
