OHS VARSITY POM & DANCE TEAM Thank you for your interest in the Oconomowoc High School Varsity Pom and Dance Team! OHS Poms performs at approximately 11-12 home basketball games. In addition to these games, the squad will compete in three to four competitions in the winter. For the 2009-2010 season, the squad will not exceed 22 members in total, we already have 13 members on the team. The 2009 winter Tryouts for the team are November 10 th and 12 th. During the rest of the season, practices will be held 2 to 3 times a week, for two-hours. Pre-game rehearsals will also be scheduled before each game. Oconomowoc High School financially supports our squad; they provide one uniform, and poms. However, everything over and above that will be the responsibility of the team members. We will do fundraisers throughout the season to help with costs, however should a dancer not do her part to ensure a success, costs will have to come out of pocket. Below you will find a list of the required items for the 2009-2010 season. If you have been on the squad before, you do not need to re-order the * marked items, unless they need to be replaced. If you have these items from a dance class, you will not need to reorder, however shoes need to be identical to the team. We ask that everyone look at the schedule from our last season to see an example of what you will be required to do. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TRYOUTS* This year OHS changed their requirements for the pom and cheer tryouts. Each sports team at OHS was required to have a Red Card on file prior to tryouts except poms and cheer. This year they have changed that so we now are also required to have Red Cards turned in before you are able to participate in tryouts. What does that mean? 1. Each pom squad tryout participant must have a current Physical Card on file dated after April 1, 2008 and an Alternate Year Card signed by a parent for physicals that are dated before May 30, 2009. 2. Each pom squad tryout participant needs to have the Oconomowoc Activities Pledge Card signed by both the athlete and parent/guardian. 3. Athletic Fee must also be paid. 4. At Day One of tryouts you must turn your red card into the poms coaches at registration before you can participate in tryouts. If we do not have the card in our hands, you will not be able to participate. You can get all of this at the OHS Athletic office. WITHOUT THE TRYOUT RED CARD YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN TRYOUTS!!!!!
2009-2010 Dance Tryout Information ****You will be asked to turn in your tryout application along with signed waiver and red card before you can participate**** Day One: Tuesday November 10, 2009 Where: OHS When: 4:00 to 6:00 What will we do: You will learn a 2 minute pom routine. Day Two: Thursday November 12, 2009 Where: OHS When: 4:00 to 6:00 What will we do: We will learn a 2 minute hip hop routine. How will the new members be chosen?: Throughout the two days, both coaches will be watching you to see how fast you catch on to the routines and what your style is at practice. At the end of each practice we may ask you to perform the routines in small groups. We will be evaulating you on the following: 1. Memory 2. How fast you pick up new material. 3. Style 4. Attitude 5. Technique 6. Flexibility What to wear on day of tryouts?: Each day we ask that you wear appropriate dance clothing! Please no jeans, sweatshirts, sweatpants or tank tops with spaghetti straps! *Your hair should be pulled back in a ponytail and/or off your face. Having hair falling onto your face will mean deduction in points! *Shoes should be flexible to point and turn in. Tennis shoes or dance shoes preferred. No Shoes? No tryout! The Squad will be posted Friday November 13th at the high school's athletic office. We will also post the squad online at www.oconomowocpoms.bravehost.com. Our first practice will be on November 23 rd at 4pm.

These dangers can result in injury and impairment to the body, general health, well being and could include serious or even mortal injuries and property damage. 2009-2010 schedule Practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays in November and December from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Weight room is every Monday and Wednesday before practice from 3:30-4. Games are on December 8, 18 and 22 nd. Practice begin November 23 rd. Practices and weight room rotation will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays in January and February 3:30-6. Games are every friday night during those months. We will have technique practice before most games from 4-5, then pre-game rehearsals from 5-6:30. Competitions are on December 12 th, January 30 th and February 6 th. In order to compete in the December 12 th competition you will go through a very informal tryout before the game on the 8 th. This is to make sure you are ready to perform the routines in front of judges.
