Wilt Chamberlain ranks fifth with 3,49 career points. Nowitzki passed Shaquille O Neal (28,596) for sixth place on the NBA s all-time scoring list with a 7-foot baseline jumper over Andrea Bargnani at the 9:5 mark of the second quarter at Brooklyn on 2/23/5 (the basket gave him 0 points for the game and 28,597 for his career). He was assisted by J.J. Barea on the play. Through 2/23/5, there had been 4,043 players who had appeared in an NBA game (and Nowitzki ranked sixth in scoring among those 4,043). It marked his longest streak of consecutive games with 20-plus points since 2/7-3/24/ (when he scored 20-plus in 6 straight games for the Mavericks in their championship season). During the nine-game stretch, the 37-year-old averaged 26. points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and. blocks in 34.0 minutes. He shot 54.6 percent (89-of-63) from the field, 4.7 percent (20-of-48) from 3-point range and 90.2 percent (37-of-4) from the line in that span (3/6-3/23/6). It was Nowitzki s 20 th career regular-season game with 40-plus points and his first since //4 versus New Orleans (40 points). Dallas improved to 6-4 all-time when he drops 40. DIRK AND D-WILL CARRY DALLAS TO AN OT WIN OVER PORTLAND AGAIN: After leading Dallas to a 5-2 overtime win at Portland on 2//5, Dirk Nowitzki and Deron Williams carried the Mavericks to a 32-20 overtime victory over the Blazers at home on 3/20/6. The duo was magnificent in both games. Williams (30 points, six rebounds, eight assists, two blocks) and Nowitzki (28 points, seven boards, six assists, one block) combined for 58 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and three blocks in the win at Portland on 2//5. Nowitzki scored the last five points of regulation, including a game-tying tip-in with 6.0 seconds left, to send the game to overtime. Williams (9) and Nowitzki (4) then combined for 3 of Dallas 9 points in overtime, helping the Mavericks come away with a three-point (5-2) win. In the Mavericks win over the Blazers in Dallas on 3/20/6, Nowitzki (40 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals) and Williams (3 points, three rebounds, 6 assists, three steals) combined for 7 points, rebounds, 20 assists and five steals.
