At 73-53 (.579), the Cubs are on pace for 94 victories and currently have the third-best record in the N.L., fourth-best in the majors in the last 75 years, the Cubs have finished a season with a better winning percentage only three times (1945: 98-56,.636; 2008: 97-64,.602; 1984: 96-65,.596). With 73 wins this season, the Cubs have already matched their win total from all of last season when the club finished 73-89. After this weekend, the Cubs return to Wrigley Field on Monday for a six-game homestand, the lone home games for the Cubs from August 25-September 17, as the Cubs are in the midst of a stretch during which they play 17 of 23 games away from Wrigley Field. ROAD WARRIORS: The Cubs own the second-best road record in all of baseball with a 34-27 mark, good for a.557 winning percentage, trailing only St. Louis (36-26) the Cubs have won 15 of their last 22 road games dating to June 30. The Cubs have gone 4-1-2 in their last seven road series and 6-2-4 in their last 12 road series starting June 4. The Cubs have gone.500 or better in seven-straight road trips starting with their West Coast swing through San Diego and Arizona in mid-may overall, the Cubs have gone.500 or better during nine of their 10 road trips this season. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?: From July 29-August 25, the Cubs won 21 games in a 25-game stretch for the first time since June 6-July 4, 1936 this 25- game run included two six-game winning streaks and a season-high nine-game winning streak. This marked only the second time in franchise history, and first time in more than 112 years, that the Cubs have posted three winning streaks of at least six games in a 25-game stretch the other time? May 6-June 3, 1903, when the Cubs turned in a pair of eight-game winning streaks and a six-game winning streak during a 22-3 stretch over 25 games thanks to Ed Hartig. Starting May 11, the Cubs are 27-17 in their last 44 games against above.500 teams and are 31-21 in their 52 games against sub.500 clubs. IN AWE OF AUGUST: The Cubs are 18-6 in August, tied with the New York Mets for the best record in the National League and just behind Toronto (18-5) for best record in the majors the Cubs are guaranteed to finish August above.500 and have now played.500 or better ball in every calendar month this season. Thanks to a 14-13 record in June, a 15-12 mark in July and the 18-6 mark in August, the Cubs have posted three-straight winning months for the first time since 2008 when the club did so in each of the first five months of the campaign (April 17-9, May 18-11, June 15-12, July 15-11, August 20-8). Chicago has won at least 14 games in four-straight months for the first time since a five-month stretch April-August of 2008. Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw on Friday oh, and the Cubs also faced reigning World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner yesterday. Thus far in 2015, the Cubs have gone 5-2 in seven games against former Cy Young Award winners, with victories in games started by Kluber, Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Peavy and Bartolo Colon and losses to Max Scherzer and Peavy. HAVING A BLAST: Anthony Rizzo has 25 home runs this season to become just the fifth left-handed hitter in franchise history to reach 25 homes in multiple seasons (Anthony hit 32 home runs last year) Rizzo joins Billy Williams (10 times), Bill Nicholson (five), Henry Rodriguez (two) and Rick Monday (two) as franchise lefties with at least two seasons of 25 homers. Anthony has also reached 20 homers for the third-straight year he is the first Cubs left-handed hitter to reach 20 homers in threestraight years since Leon Durham s four-year run from 1984-87 in the last 55 years, Billy Williams is the only other Cubs lefty to turn the trick, as he did so in 13-straight years from 1961-73. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR CREDENTIALS: Kris Bryant on Monday hit his 20th home run of the season, the most in franchise history by any player in his first big league campaign he is only the fifth rookie in franchise history to reach 20 homers, joining Billy Williams (25 in 1961), Walt Moryn (23 in 1956), Geovany Soto (23 in 2008) and Tyler Colvin (20 in 2010). Bryant leads all major league rookies in RBI (77), on-base percentage (.367), slugging percentage (.480), OPS (.847), game-winning RBI (11) and runs scored (71) he ranks second in home runs, trailing only Joc Pederson (23). Monday s home run was Bryant s second walk-off blast of the season, becoming the first Cubs rookie ever to hit multiple walk-off homers in a season thanks to Elias. HOMER HAPPY: Kyle Schwarber has hit 11 home runs since his recall from Triple-A Iowa on July 17, tied for second most in the National League since the All-Star Break and the most among all major league rookies Schwarber is tied for second in the National League with nine home runs in August, also most among all major league rookies. START ME UP: Jake Arrieta on Tuesday became the first pitcher in the majors to 16 wins he is the first Cubs pitcher to reach 16 wins since Ryan Dempster and Ted Lilly each won 17 games in 2008 Arrieta has recorded a quality start in each of his last 13 outings, the longest streak by a Cubs starter since Greg Maddux had 14-straight quality starts in 1992. Since 1914, there have been only six instances in franchise history where a Cubs pitcher has recorded 12 or more quality starts in row: Arrieta (current), Maddux (14 in 1988 and 1992), Lon Warneke (17 in 1933), Grover Pete Alexander (15 in 1919) and Hippo Vaughn (13 in 1914) thanks to Ed Hartig for his research assistance. THIS IS HIGHLY OFFENSIVE: The Cubs have hit 55 home runs since the All-Star Break, second-most in the National League (the Mets have 57) and fifth-most in the majors in the team s last 15 games, Chicago has belted 32 long balls for an average of 2.1 homers per contest the Cubs rank second in the majors with 40 homers in August (the Mets have 43). Chicago is batting.262 (184-for-701) with 122 runs scored in its last 22 games since August 4, good for an average of 5.5 runs per game that includes a.293 average (51-for-174) with runners in scoring position.
