2017-18 SEASON NOTES Allen, Commodores looking to return to postseason play The Commodores, entering the SEC Championship off their first team title in nearly three years, are looking to return to NCAA competition after having a 17-year postseason streak end a year ago. Like the Commodore squad, Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen is used to reaching the NCAAs, having accomplished the feat in all but one of his 17 years as a collegiate head coach. Sophomore Carlson leading Commodores in scoring Abbey Carlson has shown marked improvement in her second year in the Commodore program. Carlson, who is a certified pilot away from the course, tops the Commodores with a 72.80 stroke average, nearly two full strokes lower than a year ago. Carlson s best outing came at the Vanderbilt-hosted Mason Rudolph Championship, where she posted a T-4th individual finish with a 54-hole total of 206. Her Mason Rudolph performance included a collegiate low of 66 in the first round. Youth movement for the Commodores in 2017-18 The influx of youth has given the Vanderbilt squad a far different look than a year ago. True freshmen Morgan Baxendale, Virginia Green and Louise Yu have paid big dividends for the Commodores, with contributing on the five-player scoring lineup for much of the campaign. Morgan Baxendale, Louise Yu contenders for SEC Freshman of the Year recognition Freshmen Morgan Baxendale and Louise Yu are in contention for SEC Freshman of the Year consideration. Baxendale enters the SEC off an individual victory at the Brickyard Collegiate (3-under 213 total) while Yu has posted three top-20 individual finishes, including a fourthplace result at the Brickyard Collegiate. Former Georgia All-American Emilie Meason impresses as first-year assistant coach Former University of Georgia All-American Emilie (Burger) Meason has helped head coach Greg Allen rebuild Vanderbilt s youthful roster into a NCAA regional contender. The Commodores have witnessed big improvements in tournament results and scoring averages with the contribution of Meason, a four-time All-SEC recipient from 2009-13.
