The game will be televised nationally by Comcast Sports South, a television partner of Conference USA, and will kick off at 6:00 p.m. CT. It is MSU's second national telecast to open the '07 season. MISSISSIPPI STATE AIMS TO IMPROVE ROAD-OPENING WINNING PERCENTAGE Mississippi State has posted a 46-54-6 (.462) record in road openers during its previous 107 seasons of college football. The Bulldogs won its first game on enemy soil last fall, a 16-10 overtime win at UAB, head coach Sylvester Croom's first true road triumph at the helm of the program. MSU LOOKS TO BETTER THAT ROAD- STARTING MARK VS. NON-SEC TEAMS Mississippi State is 36-24-5 (.592) when those road openers have come against teams not affiliated with the Southeastern Conference. Last year's win at Birmingham, however, was the first time since 2000 (two games) that the Bulldogs won their road opener when it occurred at a non-sec school. MISSISSIPPI STATE LOOKS TO IMPROVE LEDGER VS. CONFERENCE-USA Mississippi State has posted an impressive 81-61-3 (.569) record against teams that currently comprise Conference- USA. State has played C-USA member schools more MISSISSIPPI STATE MAKES FIRST LIVE APPEARANCE ON COMCAST SPORTS While Comcast Sports South serves as Mississippi State's official taped-delay television partner, the game against Tulane will mark the Bulldogs' first appearance on the network live. CSS also serves as one of Conference-USA's live TV partner. FOUR MISSISSIPPI STATE PLAYERS RETURN HOME TO THE PELICAN STATE Mississippi State has four players on its roster from the state of Louisiana. True freshman defensive tackle LaMarcus Williams (Bastrop), junior fullback Jeremy Jones (Harvey), sophomore running back Christian Ducre (Mandeville), and senior running back Justin Williams (Tallulah) all return home this weekend. ONLY ONE GREEN WAVE PLAYER COMES FROM THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI Despite the fact that Louisiana and Mississippi are neighboring states, the Tulane roster shows just one player from the Magnolia State. Junior linebacker Jordan Ellis (Pass Christian) will welcome his home-state school to Quick Facts - Mississippi State Record....................................... 0-1 Ranking (AP/Coaches')....................... Tulane (57 games) is MState's most-played opponent outside the league. The Bulldogs are 3-3 vs. C-USA under Croom. FOR MISSISSIPPI STATE, IT'S DOME- SWEET-DOME WHEN PLAYING TULANE Mississippi State is 8-7 all-time when playing in domed stadiums, but an impressive 5-2 in the New Orleans Superdome. State's last game in a dome was four years ago vs. the same opponent, in the same location. MSU dropped a 31-28 decision to the Green Wave in Jackie Sherrill's final season as Bulldog head coach. New Orleans. OTHER ASSOCIATIONS EXIST BETWEEN THE TWO SCHOOLS' PLAYERS Despite the relatively small number of players on the two teams' rosters from the other state, some other associations between the two schools' student-athletes do exist. State's trio of Chris Herrera, Marcus Washington and Brandon Cooper all played with Tulane freshman defensive lineman Justin Adams at Fort Bend Marshall High School near Missouri City, Texas. State defensive back De'Mon Glanton and Tulane wide receiver Shannon Davis each played at Mays High School in Atlanta. And MState offensive lineman J.C. Brignone played with the Green Wave's Ellis at St. Stanislaus High in Pass Christian. Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Tulane Green Wave September 8, 2007 Football Game Notes Early Week Notes

DEFENSE AGAIN PROVES TOUGH TO RUN AGAINST, STREAK REACHES SEVEN While the score might have been one-sided, Mississippi State's defensive unit again showed that it would be a difficult group to run against, during this past Saturday's loss to LSU. For the seventh-straight game, MSU did not allow an opponent rusher to reach the 100-yard plateau, a streak that covers games against BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Ole Miss), Darren McFadden and Felix Jones (Arkansas), Kenneth Darby (Alabama), and Kregg Lumpkin (Georgia). Jacob Hester paced all LSU ground-gainers with 68 yards. BIG-PLAY DEFENSIVE END BROWN RETURNS AS ONE OF SEC'S BEST Mississippi State senior defensive end Titus Brown (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) has his sights set on a great senior season after becoming one of the SEC's top big-play threats in 2006. Brown, who has played in 32 career games with 19 starts on defense, was named second-team, all-sec a year ago when he finished third and fifth, respectively, in tackles for loss (14.5 for 75 yards) and quarterback sacks (7.5 for 54 yards). Brown has recorded 131 career tackles, including 22.5 for loss (minus 101 yards), 11 of which were sacks (minus 67 yards). Brown began his senior campaign by making four tackles, including one for loss (minus 2 yards), a quarterback sack. He has now had at least one tackle for loss in eight of the last nine games, dating to last season, and a QB sack in seven of the last nine. RECORD-SETTING TIGHT END BUTLER BEGINS SENIOR YEAR ON MACKEY LIST Mississippi State senior tight end Eric Butler (Moss Point, Miss.) opens his senior season on the 2007 John Mackey Award watch list, an honor given annually to the nation s top tight end. A 6-3, 255-pounder, Butler has played in 33 games at State, starting 24 times at the tight end position. He has made 43 career catches for 563 yards, a 13.1-yard average, and eight touchdowns. Butler holds the school s single-season (4) and career touchdown (8) receiving records for a tight end. He opened his senior campaign with one reception against LSU. DEFENSIVE BACK DEREK PEGUES MENTIONED ON THORPE AWARD LIST Mississippi State junior defensive back Derek Pegues (Batesville, Miss.) was selected to the 2007 Jim Thorpe Award watch list, an honor given annually to the nation s best college defensive back. Pegues was one of just 35 defensive backs nationally to be included on the initial watch list, one of only four from the Southeastern Conference. He was selected pre-season, all-sec by both the league s coaches and the media. SEC defensive back and kick returner last year, he finished eighth in the conference in interceptions in 2006 with four picks, and second and fifth, respectively, in the league in punt and kickoff returns. His punt return yardage total was the fifth-highest single-season mark in school history. Pegues opened the '07 season by returning three punts for 14 yards, four kickoffs for 86 yards, and by making three tackles. SENIOR CENTER BLACKLEDGE NAMED TO RIMINGTON WATCH LIST Mississippi State senior center Royce Blackledge (Sandersville, Miss.) has been named to the 2007 Rimington Trophy Watch List, an award given annually to the nation's premier center. Blackledge has now started 19 consecutive games for the Bulldogs, including 13 in a row at center. He has been on the field for every offensive snap 14 times, and sat out just 17 plays during the 2006 season. Blackledge began his senior season the way he ended his junior campaign. He scored a team-high 82 percent blocking grade, playing 34 of a possible 59 offensive snaps. ANOTHER BIG-PLAY MAKER, WIDE RECEIVER TONY BURKS RETURNS In just his first season wearing the Maroon and White, senior Tony Burks (Gulfport, Miss.) made an immediate splash in the Bulldog wide receiver corps. Burks had 35 pass receptions for 850 yards, a 24.3-yard average, and five touchdowns. His average yards per catch led all SEC pass receiving leaders. Burks again showed the propensity to make the big catch against LSU in the season opener, recording a 45-yard reception. LINEBACKER JAMAR CHANEY MAKES MOVE INSIDE TO ADD SPEED TO 'D' Mississippi State junior linebacker Jamar Chaney, who started 11 of his 12 games played last fall at an outside linebacker position, made a move to the middle of the Bulldog defense to open 2007. Chaney recorded 66 tackles last year, including 7.5 for loss (minus 27 yards), 2.5 of which were quarterback sacks (minus 17 yards). He began his junior season with five tackles and a pass deflection against LSU in the opener. ANTHONY DIXON PRIMED TO BUILD ON OUTSTANDING FRESHMAN CAMPAIGN Mississippi State sophomore halfback Anthony Dixon (Jackson, Miss.) started five times at the halfback position for MSU last fall, finishing the year with opening calls in the season's last three games. Dixon paced all MSU rushers a year ago with 668 yards rushing on 169 attempts, a 4.0-yard average, and nine touchdowns. His rushing attempts, yards and touchdowns were all freshman rushing records at State. His nine scores on the ground were the most by a Bulldog in six seasons. In those last three starts of the year, all of which came against SEC competition, he rushed 67 times for 335 yards (112 yards per game), a 5.0-yard average, and two TDs. Dixon opened his sophomore campaign with a strange set of stats -- 29 yards rushing on 13 carries. He had rushed for 31 yards in the first half on eight of those rushes. DOUGLAS MAKES HIS MSTATE DEBUT LOOK A LOT LIKE JUNIOR COLLEGE Mississippi State junior linebacker Dominic Douglas (Clinton, Miss.) earned his first senior college start in the Bulldogs' season opener against LSU, and he made it a memorable one. In fact, it was a lot like the games he played at Hinds (Miss.) Community College. Douglas, who led all Mississippi junior college players in tackles one year ago, paced the Bulldogs with nine tackles against the Tigers. He also tied for the team lead with one and one-half tackles for loss (minus 10 yards), one hit being a quarterback sack (minus 9 yards). SOLID SPRING PRACTICE, HUGE CAMP PREPARE JOHNSON FOR LIDLIFTER Like Douglas, another Bulldog who earned his first collegiate start against LSU this past weekend was sophomore cornerback Anthony Johnson (Jackson, Miss.), and like Douglas, he had a solid showing in his first outing as a starter, as well. Johnson was second on the club with eight tackles, including one tackle for loss (minus 1 yard) and one pass deflection. He made 12 tackles in 2006, all in a reserve role or on special teams. HOLMES, BOWMAN MAKE SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION FROM JC BALL AS WELL Mississippi State juniors Jessie Bowman (Brookhaven, Miss.) and Jimmie Holmes (Aiken, S.C.), like the aforementioned Douglas, also had solid performances in their first games as Bulldogs after playing two seasons of junior college football in Mississippi. Bowman earned a starting call at defensive tackle and responded with five tackles, including one and one-half tackle for loss (minus 2 yards). Holmes came off the bench, but the defensive end made his playing time count. He had five hits, including one and one-half for loss (minus 8 yards), one of which was a QB sack (minus 8 yards).
