Page 10 Page 3 held in the gymnasium of the Bellefonte High School. Youth wrestling expects support from the family of each wrestler for each event. Support can be anything from help with weigh-ins, transporting and moving mats, working in the kitchen, working the tables, donating food items, selling 50/50 chances, cleaning up afterwards, and much more. Sign-up sheets will be passed around and/or posted prior to each event!! End of Year Information The League tournament is the official end of the year for youth wrestling. There will be an Awards Banquet held after the end of the season. Details will be forthcoming. Equipment/singlet will be turned in at a time specified at the end of the wrestling year. Youth Wrestling Coaching Staff Head Coach: Troy Butler Coordinator: Jason Garcia Assistants: Travis Price Justin O Shea Shane Long Curtis Dixon Jeremy Lucas Others as determined by Head Coach Eligibility Child must reside in the Bellefonte Area School District in grades Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. Conduct Wrestlers and parents, at all times, are expected to show good sportsmanship. They should be gracious in victory and in defeat. They need to be proud of who they are and whom they are representing on and off the mat. Poor sportsmanship is neither good for the individual or the team. Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and will be addressed immediately. Any negative or abusive behavior from a parent toward their child, coaches, other wrestlers, or officials will not be tolerated. Any such behavior could result in dismissal from the program. This includes both parent and child involved in said behavior. Equipment All wrestlers will be issued a uniform consisting of (t-shirt, shorts and singlet). Please do not wear this uniform for practices. Although it is not mandatory, wrestlers are encouraged to wear the issued uniform that represents the Bellefonte Wrestling Club which they represent. Wrestling shoes are optional but all wrestlers must wear a softsoled sneaker. These shoes should not be worn anywhere but the wrestling room. There is a shoe bank of used wrestling shoes that is available. If you are interested, please ask about it.

Page 4 Page 9 Headgear is also optional but encouraged for all wrestlers. If you would like to purchase a headgear, they are available at area sporting good stores. The t-shirt and shorts are not to be turned in at the end of the season. These are the wrestlers to keep! Practices/Parking Please be on time for practice. We only have the wrestling room for a short period of time and would like to use it appropriately. Practice schedules will be handed out on a monthly basis. We are asking parents, as a safety precaution, to accompany your child into the building before practice and out of the building after practice. Make sure that your child goes right to the wrestling room. Please be prompt at picking up your child. We will not have children standing in the parking lot; someone from the coaching staff will remain with the children until everyone is picked up. Clothing for practice should be t-shirt or sweatshirts, shorts or sweatpants, and soft soled shoes. NO HOODED SWEATSHIRTS, ZIPPERS OR JEWELRY!!! Please come prepared. We ask that you change your shoes before entering the wrestling room. Parents, no high heels are permitted on the mats. Parents are welcome to attend the White team practices, provided they do not become a distraction for the wrestlers. The Red team practices are closed practices. Only coaches will be permitted in the wrestling room. Parents are welcome to wait in the hallway outside the wrestling room. Children are not permitted in the school unattended. Wrestlers are supervised by coaching staff; siblings are not. If you must bring other children, you are matches with wrestlers of the same age, weight and experience and for them not to wrestle a wrestler from our own association. If a wrestler has no competition he/she will be told in advance and does not need to attend. ***PARENTS-By signing up for scrimmages, THE WRESTLER MUST ATTEND! Also these events can take 4 to 5 hours. Do not sign up if you have to leave early or have time limitations. All wrestlers should check with the coaching staff before leaving each scrimmage. Wrestlers must call coaching staff by at least 10:00 am the day of the scrimmage if they are sick, preferably sooner. Keystone Junior Wrestling League Bellefonte is a member of the Keystone Jr. Wrestling League. Other league members include Bald Eagle Area, Central Mountain, Clearfield, Glendale, Mo Valley, Penn s Valley, Philipsburg, and State College. The purpose of the league is to provide competition for league members by arranging scrimmages and a season-ending league tournament. To be eligible for the League Tournament each wrestler to attend 80% of home practices. Also, each wrestler must also attend a minimum of 2 events (scrimmages, and/or tournaments). All wrestlers are expected to attend the league tournament. It emphasizes the team concept in what many call an individual sport. Hosted Tournaments The Bellefonte Wrestling Association may host a number of tournaments throughout the wrestling season All tournaments are

Page 8 Page 5 5. (CONT D) There are many weekends where there are 2-3 tournaments in the same weekend. 6. Each tournament also offers awards for the top 3 or 4 wrestlers in each age/weight division. Some of the tournaments offer trophies, some offer ribbons and some offer medals. Every tournament is different. 7. For the beginner wrestler (1 st or 2 nd year), there are some tournaments geared specifically for these wrestlers. These tournaments are often called Novice tournaments. The opponents at these tournaments will most likely have the same caliber of experience as your child. 8. Tournaments are either single elimination or double elimination. Single elimination means that if your child loses his/her first match, he/she is done. Double elimination means that your child can lose two times. After the second loss, he/she is done. Please note that some double elimination tournaments are not double elimination until the quarterfinals. If you have any questions about whether a tournament is single or double elimination, please ask. We will try to answer any questions you have. Scrimmages Scrimmages are an excellent opportunity for wrestlers to test their skills. Scrimmages are different from tournaments in the following ways: there are 2 or more teams involved, free or reduced admission fee, no entrance fee for wrestler, no making of weight. Competition is prearranged by coaching staff to try to equalize the competition. Our goal is to get each wrestler at least 2 responsible for their behavior and actions. Bellefonte Youth Wrestling has received comments about unattended children in the past. do not have children standing out in the parking lot, waiting for their parents. You are welcome to sit in the hallway outside the wrestling room, during practice, if you choose to do so. Cancellations If Bellefonte School District closes school, there will be NO practice (snow day, early dismissal, after-school events, etc.). If in question, please check on Channel 4 or the local radio station. Pictures A date for team/individual pictures will be arranged by the Wrestling Association and this date will be announced as soon as confirmed with the photographer. The wrestlers are to be dressed in full uniform for the picture and wear their Bellefonte singlet, team shorts and t-shirt. If you have more than one child, you can have their pictures taken together. We request that every child attend the photo shoot to participate in the team photo regardless of whether or not you plan to purchase pictures. Fundraisers Bellefonte wrestling holds one large fundraiser each year. Others may be necessary as required. We ask each family to support the fund raisers each year. These funds support everything we do. The wrestling association provides all funding necessary above and beyond what the school district provides for the JR High and Varsity Levels as well as fully funding the youth program.

Page 6 Page 7 Bellefonte Wrestling Association The Bellefonte Wrestling Association provides support to all levels of wrestling K-12. This support is above and beyond what the school district provides. This organization provides the guidance for the youth program. The 2014-2015 officers are: President- Dan Bauman, Vice President- Mark Coppolo, Secretary- Jaime Garrison, and Treasurer- Scott Rosenberger. This group normally meets the Second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in teacher s lounge. All parents and wrestling supporters are invited to attend and participate in these meetings. The involvement of our wrestler s families is one reason Bellefonte Youth Wrestling has become the outstanding program it is today. Membership is not required to attend the meetings: however, annual dues of $2.00 provide an individual with voting privileges. All parents and wrestling supporters are invited to attend and participate in these meetings. Tournament Expectations There are numerous tournaments held at surrounding schools that your child may attend. What follows are some important things to remember regarding tournaments: 1. You are not required to attend additional tournaments, however, we do encourage you to have your child attend as many as they feel comfortable attending. (Keep in mind, the more your child wrestles, the more your child learns/remembers, win or lose.) 2. Tournaments, unlike scrimmages, have registration fees which are your responsibility. 3. There are registration forms which you will need to obtain, complete accurately, and mail in. These may be available in the wrestling room. Registration forms for most all tournaments will be available on the web at http://www.pywrestling.com/ Click on youth tournaments When completing the form, be sure to put in the correct age and weight division. If you complete the form and put your child s weight at 95 and he/she goes to the tournament, and weighs in at 96, most likely they will not allow him/her to wrestle. Your child HAS to make the weight you put on the form. Some schools may allow you to move your child up to a different weight, but don t count on this. If they have their brackets completed, chances are unlikely they will allow any changes. If you have ANY questions, please ask a coach or one of the many veteran MOMS and DADS. 4. It is your responsibility to send in your registration forms to the appropriate schools before their deadlines. If our team is attending a tournament as a team and the registration forms need to be sent in all together, this announcement will be made at the beginning/end of practice. 5. The coaching staff will try to let you know which tournaments they will be attending each week. Please understand there may be tournaments where a coach may not be present. The coaching staff cannot attend all the tournaments listed.
