All Veteran s are invited and students are encouraged to invite special Veterans in their lives. Our program will last approximately one hour. We are looking forward to honoring our Veterans! E-Learning Practice Day: COMING SOON! In an effort to prepare for possible weather conditions that could keep us from coming to school, we will be having a practice e-learning day at FES on Tuesday, November 1st. Students will come to school on this day and use time in the morning to complete school work on their ipads. To create an even more realistic e-learning day we will add to the fun and have a pajama day! Students are encouraged and welcome to wear their comfy pjs and bring slippers on this day! While students practice e-learning days at school, it s a great reminder for parents to check Skyward and make sure your contact numbers are up to date! When logging in to Skyward, click the Skylert tab on the left to confirm/update your info! You can even add grandma and/or the babysitter so everyone is aware of delays and closings! ipads A friendly reminder that ipads should be charged at home each day. Chargers were sent home at the beginning of the year with each student. We have several students coming to school each day with low battery. In order for the devices to be used effectively, they must have a full charge each day! Also, if not already, ipads will be sent home daily starting November 1st! (This includes weekends!) Lost and Found The FES Lost and Found table is filling up! All items will be cleared and donated after school on Friday, November 4th. If your child is missing something, please have him/her check the tables. Also, if you haven t already, please write your child s name in his/her jackets, hats, lunchboxes, etc. Below is a picture of our Lost any Found table. Fortville Elementary School Page 4

Did You Know? 66% of Children Who Abuse Prescription Drugs Get Them From Family Or Friends. Review the following guidelines for prescription drug abuse prevention and discuss them with family & friends. LOCK YOUR MEDS Every day, more children begin experimenting with prescription drugs. 2 Sixty-six percent of those who have abused pain medication say they get the medication from friends and family. 3 Prevent your children from abusing your own medication by securing your meds in places your child cannot access. TAKE INVENTORY Download your Home Medicine Inventory Card at www.lockyourmeds.org, write down the name and amount of medications you currently have and regularly check to see that nothing is missing. EDUCATE YOURSELF & YOUR CHILD Learn about the most commonly abused types of prescription medications (pain relievers, sedatives, stimulants and tranquilizers). Then, communicate the dangers to your child regularly; once is not enough. SET CLEAR RULES & MONITOR BEHAVIOR Express your disapproval of using prescription drugs without a prescription. Monitor your child s behavior to ensure that the rules are being followed. PASS IT ON Share your knowledge, experience and support with the parents of your child s friends.
