Saturday, May 6, 2017 7:35 p.m. CT Smith s Ballpark Salt Lake City, Utah Game #28 Road Game #13 Omaha Storm Chasers (13-14) RHP Josh Staumont (2-1, 3.81) SERIES AT A GLANCE Omaha & Salt Lake square off for the 1st & only time during the 2017 regular season in their 4-game set. The Chasers dropped all 4 of their matchups against Memphis coming into this series, while the Bees were swept at Reno. Omaha & Salt Lake split their 4-game set last season at Werner Park 2-2, and have also split their 24 matchups entering this season dating back to 2011. That includes a 6-6 tally at Smith s Ballpark in that span. Chasers batters last season managed just a.165 average (21-127) versus the Bees, while Salt Lake hitters recorded a.190 clip (24-126) versus Omaha pitching. C Parker Morin (.500, 2-4), INF Raul Mondesi (.200, 3-15) & OF Bubba Starling (.133, 2-15) are the only 3 members of Chasers current roster to face Salt Lake with Omaha in 2016. STORM STORIES Omaha pitchers hit 2 batters in last night s game after totaling just 3 hit by pitches through their 1st 26 contests. Chasers hurlers enter play ranked 2nd in the PCL with a 3.40 ERA, while Salt Lake pitchers rank last with a 6.21 ERA. Omaha hitters have scored the fewest runs (107) in the PCL, while Bees batters have plated the 2nd-most (173). Chasers batters have recorded at least 1 hit in each of their last 1,233 regular season games. The last time the franchise failed to record a hit was a 2-0 loss to the then-oklahoma RedHawks on June 29, 2008. Omaha pitchers have also allowed at least 1 hit in every game since April 17, 1997, when Oklahoma was no-hit. NOT SO SWEEP Last night marked just the 2nd time this season the Chasers have lost a series, including their 1st at Werner Park. Omaha was also swept in a series for the 1st time in 2017. The last time that happened to the Chasers was the final series of the 2016 campaign when Oklahoma City won all 4 matchups between 9/2-5. Omaha enters this series with a 1-1 mark in road series this year, in addition to a series split. NO JOSH-ING AROUND Tonight s Omaha starter Josh Staumont ranks 2nd in the PCL with 38 strikeouts, trailing only Oklahoma City s Wilmer Font (42). Staumont s 13.15 strikeouts per 9 innings ratio also paces the PCL, in addition to ranking 2nd among all Triple-A hurlers, behind Durham s Jacob Faria (13.68). He also enters play tonight 5th in the PCL in batting average against (.188). Staumont in 3 road outings has compiled a 1-1 mark & 6.75 ERA (10 ER/13.1 IP), with 14 strikeouts, compared to a 1-0 clip & 0.71 ERA (1 ER/12.2 IP) with 24 strikeouts in 2 home outings. He matched his career-high with 12 punchouts in his most recent outing on 5/1 vs. Oklahoma City. ROAD SWEET ROAD Over 11 road games this year, INF Ryan O Hearn has hit.396 (19-48), adding 5 runs, 4 doubles, 4 HR & 8 RBI. That includes a.729 SLG & 1.149 OPS. O Hearn has tallied a hit in 10 of his 11 road matchups this season, including 7 multi-hit efforts. Memphis starter Arturo Reyes (8.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) earned his 4th win with a stellar performance. Omaha attempted a comeback in the 9th via DH Peter O Brien s RBI triple & CF Bubba Starling s run-scoring double, however Redbirds relief man Rowan Wick (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K) shut the door on the comeback hopes. Chasers 2B Ramon Torres (2-4, R) was the lone batter from the home side to collect 2 hits. Memphis RF Todd Cunningham (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI), 3B Patrick Wisdom (2-4) & C Carson Kelly (2-4, 2 R) each tallied 2 knocks as well. Omaha starter Yender Caramo (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat, while reliever Eric Stout (2.1 IP, 3 H, K) fired 2.1 scoreless frames. STRONG STARTERS Omaha starting pitchers have allowed 1 earned run or less in 7 of their last 8 outings. The Chasers rotation has combined for a 2.61 ERA (12 ER/41.1 IP) over their last 8 contests. Despite that earned-run average, Omaha starters have posted an 0-3 mark in that span with 5 no-decisions. COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH Chasers hitters in their last 2 contests have recorded a.471 average (8-17) when batting with runners in scoring position. The Chasers as a team have hit.224 (54-241) when batting with runners in scoring position, which ranks 2nd-lowest in the PCL just ahead of OKlahoma City (.223). Salt Lake, meanwhile, has compiled a.353 average (106-300) in those situations this year. OH BILLY, BILLY, BILLY... OF Billy Burns enters play today riding an 8-game hit streak, batting.368 (14-38), adding 4 runs, 1 triple & a steal. That stretch includes 4 multi-hit efforts, including a pair of 3-hit games. He is 1 contest away from matching INF Ryan O Hearn s team-best 9-game hit streak from earlier this season between 4/17-27. Burns also enters play today ranked T-2nd in the PCL with 8 steals, behind only Salt Lake s Kaleb Cowart (9). OH SNAP C Cam Gallagher failed to reach base in a game for the 1st time this year in last night s contest. Gallagher had reached in each of his 1st 18 contests prior to yesterday. During that stretch he batted.270 (17-63) with 6 runs, 3 doubles, 3 RBI & 5 RBI. Overall this season he has collected a hit in 14 of the 18 matchups in which he has recorded an official at-bat.
