Selecting the Location This fire kit is designed and intended for outdoor use only. 2

Fire kit must have a gas shutoff on the outside of the exterior of the fire pit to allow for emergency shut off and maintenance. Select a location where the fire kit can be attended during operation. Never leave an operating fire unattended or by someone not familiar with its operation or emergency shut off locations. Both children and adults should be alerted to the hazards of high surface temperatures and should stay away to avoid burns and clothing ignition. Young children should be carefully supervised when they are in the area of fire pit Clothing or other flammable materials should not be placed on or near fire pit. Fire kits create very high temperatures Combustibles must be located far enough away that there is no risk of ignition. DO NOT install unit under overhang or ceiling. IMPORTANT It is recommended that materials such as granite, marble or other dense stone be kept away from the heat and especially flame due to risk of cracking. Manufacturer is not responsible for damage. Select a location... where the gas shut off is within 4 feet of the fire kit. Gas shut off must be outside of the fire pit. The gas line should be sized: minimum gas pressure at maximum flow rate (Btu/hr). that has good drainage. that allows easy access for installation and maintenance. Make sure that trees and shrubbery are well clear around and above the fire kit. that can be attended while in operation. 3. 4. Installation We suggest that this kit be installed by professionals that are locally licensed by the authority having jurisdiction in gas piping. We suggest that these components be serviced by a professional certified in the US by the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) as NFI Gas Specialists. This fire kit is designed and intended for outdoor use only. Fire kit must have a gas shutoff on the outside of the exterior of the fire pit to allow for emergency shut off and maintenance. Always use proper materials and construction for gas supply, power and enclosure. Only use gas/fuel type specified for this fire burner. Verify correct gas/fuel type and pressure (see step 5). Never use an alternative fuel to include bio-fuel, ethanol, lighter fluid or any other fuel. Gas pressure and type should be checked prior to use and installation. Natural Gas Supply Pressure: Minimum: 3.5" W.C.; Maximum: 7.0" W.C. Outlet Pressure: 3.5" to 5.0" W.C. LP Gas Supply Pressure: Minimum: 8.0" W.C.; Maximum: 15.0" W.C. Outlet Pressure: 10.0" to 12.0" W.C. Gas Plumbing Connections: Use only joint compound that is resistant to all gases. Apply joint compound to all male pipe fittings only-do NOT use on FLARED fittings. Be sure to tighten every joint securely. Shut off gas supply to fire pit. Burner Installation: 1. Find center groove in basin. Measure 2" back from recessed area and mark center of groove. Drill a 2" hole in top of basin. 2. Drill a 1 1 /4" hole in side of the basin. Center of hole should be down 3 /4" from under lip and 1" from bump out under lip. 4

3. Natural Gas - Connect elbow (purchased separately) to burner. Additional fittings and valve are not included with HBF16 burner kit, purchase locally. Recommended parts to exit basin: 1 /2" x 1 /2" fpt stainless steel elbow, 18" long 1 /2" stainless steel nipple LP Gas: (HPF16AK kit) Connect 1 /2" fpt x 1 /2" flared elbow to burner. 4. Insert burner into pre-drilled hole. 5. Natural Gas - Attach purchased fittings to burner and exit through predrilled hole in side of basin. Finish connecting to main supply. 6. Remaining LP Hookup - Insert copper section in HBF16AK through previously drilled hole in side of base. Connect and tighten to flared elbow fitting on burner inside basin. 7. Insert and tighten other end of copper flared end to flared elbow on HBF16AK hose assembly (LP air mixer, hose, valve and regulator assembly) 8. Turn on gas and test for leaks using soapy water. Never use a flame to check for leaks. 9. When any leaks have been diagnosed and fixed, shut off gas to complete final steps. 5

Water Line Installation: 1. On water plumbing side of Vianti Falls basin, measure 9 1 /2" from back of basin. Cut 5 /8" wide slot in top lip of basin edge at this mark. 2. The 1" PVC tee will be installed below this notch in the return line from the pump to the spillway. Measure 13" from the 45 PVC elbow and cut 1" flex PVC. 3. Glue the 1" tee into return line. The short side of the tee has a 3 /4" fpt threaded reducer bushing installed. 4. The vinyl tubing is pre-assembled. Thread the 3 /4" fitting into the PVC tee. Teflon tape should be used on nylon fittings in this water line assembly. 5. Thread the other end ( 1 /2" mpt) into the side of the burner. It may be necessary to loosen the hose clamp to attach this fitting and reattach tubing to fitting. 6. Check all hose clamps to ensure they are tightened properly. 5. Media Never use any material that is non-porous and holds moisture like gravel, pebbles, river rock, etc. directly around burner. This material, when heated will cause the trapped moisture to boil and fracture unexpectedly. This material is not sufficiently porous to allow heated steam to readily escape which can break and cause personal injury or damage. Use only supplied lava rock or equivalent. Do not use glass media. If lava rock is wet allow fire pit to burn for 30 minutes prior to coming 15 feet within fire pit. 1. Place supplied lava rock around and over burner only enough to hide burner. 2. Incorrect media placement will smother the flame and cause too much back pressure IMPORTANT - Burn Testing: It is the responsibility of the qualified installer to test for gas leaks at all connections. Also, with LP gas the unit must be tested with media over burner for confirmation of NO back pressure creating gas to leak out of air mixer venturi holes. 6. Operation Before use, be sure to test all gas connections for leaks. Do not use fire kit if there is any evidence of leaking gas. If leaking gas is suspected, turn off the main gas supply and repair immediately When fire kit is not in operation, gas supply must be turned off at location outside enclosure. Solid fuels shall not be burned in fire kit. Leaves, sticks, wood, paper, clothing, food material, should be kept away from the fire pit Make sure that there is no vegetation or other objects over the top or sides of the fire that could interfere with safe operation. IMPORTANT - Initial Start Up: It may be necessary to purge air in gas lines after system installation. 6

START UP 1. STOP! Read the safety information on What to do if you smell gas (page 1). 2. Confirm that there is no debris in fire pit (as mentioned in Warnings ). 3. Waterfall and supplemental water line must be operating. Do not operate fire without water running to cooling pan. 4. Place long handled lighter or match while burning on top of the fire pit. 5. Slowly turn ON gas valve. Use only your hand to turn gas valve- NEVER use tools. If gas valve will not turn, call a qualified service technician. 6. After burner lights remove flame. 7. Adjust flame to desired height. 8. If burner does not light, turn valve off and allow gas to clear then repeat steps 1 6. 9. Never alter the design of the fire pit. 10. Fire pit must be attended at all times by an adult who is familiar with emergency shut down. 11. Flammable materials should not be placed on or near the fire pit 12. Children should be supervised when they are in the vicinity of the fire pit. 13. Inspect the fuel supply connection before use. Replace hose if there is evidence of abrasion or wear. 14. The proper hose and regulator must be used. Do not alter or change. 15. Only use US Department of Transportation approved LP cylinders 16. LP gas cylinder supply system must be properly vented. 17. Turn off LP cylinder when not in use. SHUT DOWN 1. Turn OFF gas valve. 2. Turn OFF LP cylinder when applicable. 7. Maintenance Any guard or protective device removed for servicing must be replaced prior to operating the fire pit. Installation and repair should be done by a qualified service person. Fire pits should be inspected prior to use and at least annually by a qualified service person. Keep debris out of fire pit clean as needed Burner cleaning: If flames exhibit any abnormal shapes or behavior, or if burner fails to ignite properly, then the burner holes may require cleaning. The appliance can be cleaned by carefully removing the lava rock to allow access to burner. Use a brush to carefully remove dust, spider webs, and loose particles from base and fire burner. If evidence of damage, fire burner must be replaced with fire burner specified by manufacturer. 7

8. Troubleshooting Below are some potential causes and countermeasures to the symptoms indicated in bold. Please contact certified technician for service & repair. Will not light: 1. Air in gas line... If new install, it may take several attempts to purge air 2. Gas pressure improper... Confirm proper gas pressure found (Section 4) 3. OPD safety closed... Close manual valve and open again slowly to desired height Will not stay lit: 1. Gas pressure improper... Confirm proper gas pressure found (Section 4) 2. Improperly applied media...
