Welcome. SQUAMISH SANTA PARADE INFORMATION Friday, December 2th, 2016 7:00 pm The Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association brings you this year s Santa parade. On behalf of Santa, we look forward to the best parade ever. We are asking participates to be creative with their floats and parade entries. There will be a contest for the best decorated and Christmas Spirited entry. Music and sound is encouraged. Assembly Area The parade assembly area is located at the dryland sort on Galbraith Avenue; just south of the Squamish Yacht Club (37778 Loggers Lane) in downtown Squamish. All parade entries must report to the Squamish Lions tent at the dryland sort in order to receive their entry number. You must have an entry number to be allowed to participate. All entries must report in and be in position by 6:00 p.m. Parade Route The parade route from the dryland sort proceeds to Loggers Lane, left on Vancouver Street, right onto Cleveland, then moves into Squamish Downtown along Cleveland, ending at Pemberton Street. Safety The first priority of the Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association is to ensure the safety of all parade activities; spectators, participants and volunteers. All parties must comply with local safety and health regulations. Please proceed slowly along the parade route. No throwing/tossing anything from vehicles/floats (ie. Candy). Please respect our traffic control volunteers. 1

AUTHORIZED SIGNATURE Date, 2016 Rules and Regulations 1. The Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association and Squamish Santa Parade Committee s first priority is to ensure the safety of all Parade activities, volunteers, participants and committee members, and to ensure that they comply with local health and safety regulations. 2. For an entry to be accepted into the December 2, 2016 Squamish Santa Parade it must conform to the parade s rules and regulations. Application must be submitted on or before the deadline date of November 28, 2016. 3. The Squamish Santa Parade committee reserves the right to accept or refuse any application or participation. Parade applicants will receive notice of approval to participate in the parade prior to the event. All handouts must be approved by the committee. 4. Youth entries (under the age of 18) are required to have two safety people walking with them. on either side of the road for the duration of the parade route. 5. All entries must be cleared through registration and in position by 6:00 pm. 6. All floats must be decorated and incorporate the parade theme of Holiday Spirit. 7. All vehicles participating in the parade MUST be at least 75% decorated. Any vehicle lacking decorations will not be permitted to participate. 8. An approved entry may be refused on parade day should the entry not meet parade guidelines or differ from its approved entry form. 9. No entry may depict anything political, controversial or otherwise offensive. Determination is at the sole discretion of the parade committee. 10. Any entrants of horses and/or live animals requires a cleanup person along the parade route. 11. No candy or promotional material can be thrown into the crowd from floats or along the parade route. If your group would like to hand out candy or approved promotional materials, it must be done person-to-person only. 12. NO solicitation for cash or ticket sales along the parade route. 13. Alcoholic beverages are forbidden on any float, in any vehicle or on the person of any participant. Participants consuming alcohol prior to or during the parade are subject to removal from the parade. 14. Smoking is not permitted near any parade entries or along the parade route. 15. There will be no premature exiting of the parade route. All groups must follow organizer s instructions and directions throughout the parade (marshaling and dispersal). It is imperative the dispersal instructions be obeyed and music is stopped immediately once entry has entered the area. 16. Parade Pace: All Entries, must be willing and sufficiently physically fit to maintain both the parade pace (3.8kph = 210ft/min) and distance of 30 feet (9m) must be maintained between parade units to prevent large gaps between entries as instructed by the Parade Pacers. Units creating unnecessary gaps may be removed from the parade. Forward motion must be maintained. 17. The size of float should fall within the following guidelines: 13 wide with a maximum height of 13. 18. Children on floats must be supervised by an adult. 4
19. Lights on floats is definitely encouraged along with music that must be festive and family friendly. 20. Signage should be kept to a minimum and should be in proportion to the size of the float. Advertising on floats shall be limited to name and location of the Sponsor. 21. Any participants standing on float need to ensure their safety (wear a safety harness attached to the framework or appropriate hand railing/safety guard). 22. All participants must contribute to the theme of their entry (costumes, props, dance etc). 23. All entries must be responsible for ensuring that the design and operation of their float/entry is safe and reliable. The driver must remember at all times that there are passengers on board and their safety is a top priority. 24. Floats with generators or other possible fire hazards must provide suitable fire extinguishing equipment onboard. No Santa Claus replica may be part of any entry other than the Squamish Santa Parade Float. 5
