Oh Captain, My Captain Senior middie Haley Schweizer and senior defender Maddie Bodden have been selected in a vote of their teammates as captains for the 2017 season. On the Tube Hopkins has four games scheduled for national television this season. Hopkins games versus Georgetown (March 1) and Stony Brook (April 11) will be shown on ESPNU. In addition, Hopkins games at Maryland (March 19) and Northwestern (March 30) will be shown on the Big Ten Network. For the Record This marks the 42nd season for Johns Hopkins, which sports an alltime record of 4182614 (.615) and a 200124 (.617) record as a Division I program. The Blue Jays have posted 31 winning seasons, including 21 straight from 1987 to 2007. Hopkins has also made 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, including six in the Division I Tournament (2004, 2005, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016). Home Sweet Home(wood) Under head coach Janine Tucker, the Blue Jays are 11856 (.678) within the friendly confines of Homewood Field and the Jays are 259 (.735) at home since the start of the 2014 season. Hopkins will play nine regular season games at home this season. Family Affair Athletics at Johns Hopkins is a family affair as a pair of Blue Jays have followed in their fathers footsteps at the Homewood campus while three more are following in their sisters footsteps. Junior Emily Verica is the daughter of Chris Verica 87, who played football for the Blue Jays while senior goalie Caroline Federico is the daughter of Mike Federico 80. Mike was a threetime First Team AllAmerican and National Goalie of the Year while helping the JHU men s lacrosse team to three straight NCAA championships (1978, 1979, 1980). Senior midfielder Haley Schweizer is following in the footsteps of her sister Courtney 13, who played four years for the Blue Jays. Sophomore Miranda Ibello is not only following in the cleats of her sister, Paige 10, but also of her brotherinlaw, Max Venker 10, who was a fouryear standout on the JHU men s soccer team. Joining the Blue Jays and her sister, Holly, this season is freshman Shannon Logan. The Logans are the 11th pair of sisters to don the Hopkins Blue & Black and the first to do so at the same time since 2009 that Hopkins. The last pair of sisters to play on the same team were Sam and Megan Schrum. One of Four Unlike her teammates Holly and Shannon Logan, freshman attacker Maggie Schneidereith will not be playing along side her sister or sisters, for that matter, this season. Schneidereith, who hails from nearby Towson, is a quadruplet and all four sisters are playing Division I lacrosse. Midfielders Jamie and Lucy are playing at Drexel while goalie Georgia is playing for Albany. Welcome to Homewood Head coach Janine Tucker welcomes 10 freshmen to the Blue Jays this season. Joining Hopkins are Becca, Mackenzie Heldberg, Morgan Hendry, Caroline Hoeg, Eva Klaus, Robyn Lipschultz, Shannon Logan, Michelle Poirier, Maggie Schneidereith and Lexi Souder. At the Helm The winningest coach in program history, Janine Tucker is in her 24th season as the head coach at Johns Hopkins. She sports a record of 268140 (.657), including a 200124 (.617) mark at the Division I level. Tucker took over the Blue Jay women s lacrosse program in August 1993 and coached five seasons in Division III before successfully guiding the program s transition to Division I in 1999.
