MARLOW HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA DEPARTMENT P. O. Box 73 Marlow, OK 73055 Paula McConnell, coach Dear Speech Coach: September 1, 2018 It is our great pleasure to invite you and your team to the 28th annual Marlow High School Speech and Debate Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17. We will be hosting classes 4A, 3A, and Novice. To help with our tournament budget, Marlow will be competing in 4A for individual placings, but not sweepstakes. This is a qualifying tournament which will run according to the rules set by the O.S.S.A.A. All fourteen events sanctioned by the O.S.S.A.A. will be offered. Our desire is to make this contest an organized, hassle-free experience for everyone. Enclosed is information which we hope will be of assistance in preparing you for our tournament. If you have any questions, I may be reached at the following numbers: Planning Hour: 9:45-10:40 School Fax Number: (580) 658-6455 Cell Phone: (580) 467-2249 School Phone: (580) 658-1570 School e-mail: pmcconnell@marlow.k12.ok.us We hope to see you and your squad in November! Sincerely, Paula McConnell M.H.S. Drama Coach

ENTRIES: There is a maximum of 5 entries per debate events. As long as you provide the appropriate number of judges, there are unlimited i.e. entries; otherwise, the maximum entries are 5 per event. Novice Division: We will regulate this tournament just like the qualifying tournament. Note that students may enter a MAXIMUM of 3 events, even in novice. We prefer having your entry sent by e- mail or fax, but we will also take entries over the phone on Monday. If you provide an e-mail address, you will receive a registration confirmation Monday evening. If you do not receive a confirmation by Monday, 6:00 p.m., please check that your entry actually made it to me. COST: The cost is $3 for each individual event, $6 for duets, $5 for LD, and $10 for CX or PF. DEADLINE: Entries are due by 4:00 p.m., Monday, November 12, at which time your entry fee will be calculated. DROPS/ADDS: There is a $5 drop/add fee for each event dropped/added after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the contest. Debate drop fees: $25 after 9:00 a.m. the day of the tournament; $50 drops at registration, no shows, or forfeits. I.E. drop fee: $20 reported at registration; $25 for no shows. PAYMENT: A school purchase order will be accepted, or payment will be due at registration. INVOICES: Your invoice will be finalized during the contest to include any drop fees. AWARDS: Trophies will be presented to the top three places in individual events and in debate. Sweepstakes trophies will also be awarded to the top three teams in each class. JUDGES: One judge is required for every two CX debate teams and for every four LD or PF debate teams. The mandatory number for individual events is one judge for every twelve entries or portion thereof. Missing judge fee is $25 for i.e.s and for debate. As I'm sure you're aware, we'd rather have the judges than the money, so the tournament will run properly. TAB ROOM: Tab room results will be open only to coaches. When preliminary results have been calculated, they will be placed on the front table, just inside the tab room. When the last round of finals begins, we will close the tab room, so we can get to awards assembly quickly and efficiently. CONCESSIONS: A lounge for coaches, judges, and bus drivers will be located in the room 111. Friday, debaters will be served in room 111. Saturday, a concession stand for students will be in the cafeteria concession area. SPEAKING OF COURTESY: Our campus has been designated as Smoke-Free. No smoking (or tobacco) is allowed by students or adults. Please instruct your students to leave their musical instruments at home, and to be as polite and quiet in buildings as possible. We also ask you to remind them not to sit on the tables in the cafeteria or to take chairs out of the cafeteria.
