From The President President's Report May 2009 Hi Everyone, Just a short report this time as not a lot has happened since my last report. We managed to run our competition despite the rain. It was torrential at times and my congratulations to all those who braved the weather and rode their tests. Some good test results were gained in the trying conditions. Well done to Sue Berry for the best score of the day with a 76.4% in the Prelim 1.2, with the following riders all scoring 70% or better - Jeff Adams, Sue Lawson, Jean Egan, Kayleigh Patmore, Denise Tiyce, Pamela Bice and Libby Sonter. Thanks again to all our volunteers on the day and to the set-up crew who spent Saturday morning getting things ready. To the occasional cooks who made sure the Judges didn't go hungry and to Donna Herbert who spent the day in front of the computer doing all the scoring. Just a reminder that the next comp (28 th June) is the last time that the current dressage tests will be used. All the new tests are on our website for you to download and get familiar with before the August comp. The committee has decided to have another 'Riders Clinic' and have booked the grounds for the 4 th and 5 th July. I have secured Brett Parbury, Ann Behringer, Jim Collin and Larrisa Chadwick for instruction. It is great to see Larrisa back in the saddle and well enough to give a few lessons for us at the clinic (her spots will be limited) and we will have the arenas up for everyone to have a run through with the new tests. The booking forms will be on the website (and posted to those who aren't connected) closer to the date with all the relevant information. Best of luck to all those competing at the up coming CDI, the cheer squad have the bus booked and we are rearing to go, full report in the next newsletter. Till then stay safe everyone, Gayle A note from South Coast Equestrian Club: Due to the availability of the venue that we hold our meetings at, our meetings have changed from Tuesday to Wednesday of each month. The bistro is open for snacks and meals should you feel hungry. Please feel free to come along and have imput into the running of the club. Cheers Mary. www.shoalhavendressageclub.com.au Page 1 of 11

Advanced HOTY. Not bad for a pony some said would go past novice!!! 2003 Phantom was competing at PSG, when the Marfleet Family approached Katie and Donna, interested in purchasing Phantom for their daughter Kate. With Kate Marfleet taking the reins of Phantom they were immediately placed in the NSW Pony Squad and together they went on to win State and National Pony Dressage, Junior Dressage Rider Champs. in Victoria, NSW and Queensland from Novice level to Advanced. 2 years ago the Marfleets moved back to England and took Phantom with them. Phantom made the very elite British Pony FEI Squad and went on to represent England. When Kate became too old for Pony Dressage they decided to go back to the show ring with him. Everyone was excited when Phantom qualified for the UK HOTY and many tears of joy were shed when he went on to win the Championship at HOTY at 17 yrs of age. Katie Kelly has been lucky enough to be in England twice in the last year and a half, and was able to attend a 'Show run' through England, including Hickstead, with the Marfleets and Phantom. Katie remembers, warming up Phantom at one of the shows and the crowd gathered to watch, it was amazing, they all loved the white Aussie pony. A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT PONY Katie Kelly purchased Phantom early 1997. Phantom became a very successful show pony winning Australian Grand Nationals, NSW HOTY, EFA National Runner-Up, Aust. National Horse Show Grand Champion, National and State Champions in Open Pony, Arab, Saddle Pony, Riding Pony and the list goes on with his achievements in the Show ring. A new challenge was required and in 1999 Katie joined SDC as a Junior Rider and for her first year in the Club was undefeated and scored 70% and over in pretty much every test ridden. 2008 ended with Phantom winning the most prestigious 'Olympia' in London. Katie and Donna are so proud of Phantom and what he has achieved in his career. Katie tells that she is very honoured to have owned this amazing little pony for 7 years. Well Katie, the dressage club members should be very honoured as well to have witnessed you start this great horse on his brilliant career. Phantom is now living the 'Life of Riley' in gorgeous Kent being pampered to the 'enth degree. Katie plans to head back to England later this year and visit. Bring back some photos please Katie!! In 2000 Katie had an impressive year winning Novice HOTY, Horse and Rider OTY, and Young Rider of the Year also achieving Gold Merit Award for Novice. Not going to rest on her laurels Katie almost repeated the awards in 2001 but in Elementary and was runner-up in the open Medium HOTY and www.shoalhavendressageclub.com.au Page 3 of 11

Paramount Arenas needed a loan of 3 sets of dressage letters for the Wandin 3DE and their shipment of equipment was still at sea. We came to the rescue and were rewarded with the flower boxes valued at nearly $1000. www.shoalhavendressageclub.com.au Page 5 of 11
