GRIZZLIES HEAD COACH, MIKE FRATELLO Mike Fratello joined e Grizzlies on December 2, 2004, becoming e seven head coach in franchise history. Fratello came to e Grizzlies as one of e NBA s most successful coaches in history, ranking 19 on e all-time wins list and 21 st on e all-time games coached list when he joined e team. A 16-year coaching veteran, his teams have qualified for e NBA playoffs in 11 of his 16 seasons as a head coach. His success carried over immediately into his position wi e Grizzlies. The team went 9-6 after he took over in December 2004, en went an incredible 12-3 in January 2005, earning Fratello e NBA s Western Conference Coach of e Mon Award. He earned his 600 career win as a head coach on March 4, 2005, only e 19 coach all-time to reach e 600-win plateau. He finished out e regular season by guiding e Grizzlies to eir second winning season, and second playoff appearance. His second season wi e Grizzlies was equally impressive. Wi a roster at had been overhauled prior to e season, and e loss of Damon Stoudamire in December to a season-ending knee injury, e team still won more games an ey did e previous season, and qualified for e playoffs for e ird year in a row.
