4 New products Naturally Salt by BAYROL A COMPREHENSIVE RANGE EXCLUSIVELY FOR SALT SWIMMING POOLS Salt is a natural component of the Earth and is generally known as a spice for and meals and food. What is less well known is that salt can also be used to disinfect the water in your swimming pool. This disinfection method is called salt electrolysis. By means of a mechanism already intregrated in the circulation system of the pool, the salt will be transformed into a disinfectant. The disinfectant is therefore being produced directly in the pool, making it unneccesary to apply disinfection products manually. This saves a great deal of time as well the effort and hassle of handling other disinfectants, and provides hygienically clean and crystal clear water at all times. Naturally Salt by BAYROL is a unique and concerted concept for salt water pool care: based on the decades-long experience in the field of pool water treatment, BAYROL has developed a range of salt electrolyser devices that perfectly meet all requirements of this particular water care method. TWO PROVEN SYSTEMS With its extensive know-how and long experience in swimming pool water care, BAYROL has developed a range of robust, effective electroysers. Salt Relax is an electrolyser that is easy to install and to use and requires the low salt concentration of 3,3 g/l for generating a reliable amount of disinfectant in of your pool water. Salt Relax PRO is the result of latest-generation technology. It requires only 1,5 g/l of salt concentration, reducing the risk of corrosion of pool equipment. The functionality can be extended by adding options to regulate the ph value automatically or to control the amount of disinfectant. HOW DOES SALT ELECTROLYSIS WORK? The system consists of a control unit and an electrolysis cell. Salt will be added in a low concentration directly into the pool water. The electrolysis cell that is integrated in the water circulation pipework transforms the dissolved salt into active chlorine by means of the electrolysis method. This active chlorine destroys bacteria and other micro organisms, thus carrying out a reliable water disinfection. Pool water treated with the salt electrolysis method has a soft feel, is gentle to the skin and does not cause eye irritations. Thanks to the very low concentration required the water remains tasteless, but is still sufficient to maintain clean and crystal clear water.

BAYROLAB, AN ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR THE SPECIALISED POOL DEALER 5 BAYROLab is a comprehensive system for analysing and assessing the water quality in private swimming pools. It enables your specialised pool dealer to determine the most important parameters of your pool water in no time, and to give you advice and information on how to ensure that your pool water is hygienically clean and crystal clear at all times. This professional water testing station features Spinlab, an innovative, accurate device for measuring water parameters, and the BAYROL Solution analysis software. Saving precious time The two components of BAYROLab complement one another and give the specialised pool dealer an effective tool that saves them time and makes the most of their know-how. In just one minute, Spinlab analyses 9 water parameters in a single step (ph, TA, free chlorine, total chlorine, bromine, hardness, chlorine stabiliser, copper and iron). To do this, a disk already prepared with the necessary reagents will be filled with the pool water and then inserted in the Spinlab, which is also a photometer. The Spinlab automatically transmits the results to the BAYROL Solution software. BAYROLab A complete and professional solution including the Spinlab and the BAYROL Solution software. Expert treatment This exclusive software developed by BAYROL offers expert treatment advice based on the results, suggests problem solvers as well as tips on how to optimise your pool water treatment. BAYROL Solution takes into account the characteristics of the swimming pool (water volume, equipment, filtration type and more) as well as your preferences (treatment method, products used, etc.). By entering data specific to your pool, BAYROL Solution provides a bespoke treatment plan. A downloadable document BAYROL Solution generates a comprehensive report on the water analysis results, showing in black and white the stages of treatment, the BAYROL products recommended and the necessary dosages according to the specific data of the pool. This useful document can be printed out or generated in PDF format to be sent by email. The results are then being stored and can easily be retrieved at your next dealer visit. BAYROLab, an essential tool that provides expert water analysis only available at your specialised pool dealer.

6 Topic The myths of swimming pool water care The myths and common misconceptions about water care are largely due to ignorance about the chemical processes at work in a swimming pool. These prejudices sometimes lead to mistakes that can affect bathing comfort. The experts at the BAYROL research and development department have looked at the most common issues. Their know-how and explanations help you to see things more clearly.

7? WHERE DOES THE CHLORINE SMELL COME FROM AND HOW CAN IT BE AVOIDED? The unpleasant smell often associated with pools treated with chlorine is commonly associated with too much chlorine in the water. However, in most cases it in fact comes from a lack of chlorine. The combination of chlorine with the different bacteria present in the water produces the so called chloramines, which cause the bad smell. To stop chloramines developping, an adequate chlorine level must be kept in the water at all times. In a private swimming pool, we recommend a chlorine content of 0.5-1 g/l. Water disinfected with this level of chlorine will be protected against the formation of biofilm, that encourages the appearance of chloramines.? IS DISINFECTION ALONE ENOUGH TO GUARANTEE PURE, CLEAN WATER? No, another very important parameter has a substantial influence on the water quality: the ph value. The water in a pool will only be pure and clean if its ph value is between 7 and 7.4. The ph value shows whether the water is acid, neutral or alkaline. The neutral point is 7. If the ph is lower, the water will be acid, and if it is higher it will be alkaline (or basic).? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO MEASURE THE PH VALUE IN POOL WATER? The right ph value is the basis of the water treatment in a swimming pool. All other treatment steps depend on it. If the ph is too high, the chlorine and bromine will be less effective (even though bromine has a higher ph tolerance than chlorine). A high ph will also lead to precipitation of sediment. The sides of the pool will become rough and the filter will clog up. If the ph is too low, metal parts in the pool may be subject to rust or corrosion. In both cases, excessively acid or alkaline water can cause skin irritation.? WHY DOES THE PH VALUE IN POOL WATER VARY OVER TIME? Pool owners are well aware that the ph varies over time. Just after the pool is filled, the ph is generally within the ideal range of 7-7.4. Then, as the water warms up, the ph can rise far above 7.4. This phenomenon varies depending on the mineral composition of the water. In general, the harder the water, the faster the ph tends to rise. Water contains dissolved minerals in the form of carbonic acid, carbonates and bicarbonates. As it is warmed up, the water releases these minerals in the form of carbonic gas (CO 2 ). This can be considered as a loss of acidity, leading to an increase of the ph. Adding ph-minus granules will lower the ph level to bring it back to the ideal range.? WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT LIME? Here is a typical case. You fill your pool, then you measure the ph. You find that the ph is neutral, at 7. A few days later, you notice that the pool walls are getting rough. You check the ph again, and find that it is over 8. This is due to the carbonic gas released when the water warms up. Calcium precipitations in the water form deposits on the walls and the bottom of the pool. While lime is not harmful, dirt and algae can collect on the roughened surfaces. Adding a preventive treatment right after filling the pool with fresh water, such as 30 ml/m³ of Calcinex, will avoid calcium precipitations even at an elevated ph level. SOME EXTRA TIPS:! Adding enough fresh water, by regularly carrying out a filter backwash, and thorough annual cleaning of the filter with Filterclean Tab will keep the air pure in indoor pools. An ideal scenario is to measure the ph every week with Quicktest test strips or the Pooltester. The discolored water is compared to the easy to read colour chart on the tester. Based on the value determined by the test, if necessary, an adjustment can be made by adding ph-plus or Minus.

8 Spring cleaning GOOD MOVES AND GOOD PRODUCTS After the long winter break, take advantage of the first fine days to prepare your swimming pool. Before enjoying summer bathing, it needs cleaning with the right products. REMOVING IMPURITIES FROM THE POOL Ideally your swimming pool should be emptied and thoroughly cleaned every spring. Even if the water looks impeccable, the walls, the bottom and the filter sand need to be cleaned of dirt, lime, traces of algae and microorganisms. If the pool is empty, you can easily remove calcium deposits with Decalcit Super gel. If the pool cannot be completely emptied, it is advisable to drain at least 1/3 of the water every year. Having lowered the water level in this way, you can clean the waterline thoroughly before refilling it with fresh water. Decalcit Super BAYROL Decalcit Super gel is best used when the pool is completely empty. It removes stubborn calcium deposits and rust and incrusted stains from the pool walls. This cleaning stops algae forming and allows you to maintain a good water quality. Put the gel on a suitable brush or a scrubber and apply to the surfaces to be cleaned. Leave the diluted product (see instructions for use) to work for 15 minutes, then thoroughly rinse the pool with plenty of water. Ensure that all cleaning water has been removed before filling the pool with fresh water.! Did you know that household cleaners can harm your swimming pool? The fact is that most of these products contain phosphates, which are an ideal algae food. Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.

9 REMOVING IMPURITIES FROM THE FILTER The cleanliness of the filter is a determining factor in water quality. It is practically impossible for the sand filter to get through the winter without building up germs or dirt. Problems at the start of the season - cloudy water, green water or an unpleasant chlorine smell - are inevitable. It is therefore essential to begin the season with a thoroughly clean filter. If you do not plan to change the filter material (sand or glass), we strongly recommend to clean and disinfect it with Filterclean Tab. If you are using hard water for filling your pool, we also recommend descaling with Decalcit Filter. Filterclean Tab This is how to do it. Switch on the circulation system once the pool is filled completely. To avoid dirt from the pump getting into the water and to ensure that the pipes fill up completely with water, set your sand filter pump on circulate. Next, backwash until the water is clear. Backwashing allows you to remove particles trapped in the filter material. This important step stops the disinfectant - chlorine, bromine or active oxygen - being used in the filter already. To disinfect the filter medium effectively, use FiltercleanTab. Placed in the skimmer with the circulation pump switched on, this tablet disintegrates into granules and carries out an intensive disinfection of the filter for 30-60 minutes. Any dirt remaining in the filter despite the backwashing is also effectively removed through cold burning. During this treatment, let the filter pump run for at least an hour. Note: Filterclean Tab can be used whatever treatment method is chosen: chlorine, bromine or active oxygen. Decalcit Filter If you are using hard water for filling your pool, and especially if its ph varies, calcium can deposit in the sand filter. The sand forms lumps, affecting the performance of the filter. Made up of ultra-powerful granules, Decalcit Filter helps to dissolve calcium deposits. To do this, just pour a 10% solution of Decalcit Filter (1 kg to 10 L of water) into the open filter container, and leave it to work overnight. After a good backwash, the sand will be clean again and recovers its filtration capacity. Note: Decalcit Filter can be used whatever treatment method is chosen: chlorine, bromine or active oxygen and with all filtering systems (diatomic, cartridge, sand, glass, etc.). Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.

Different types and sizes of pools require a water different treatment. In order to help you find the right product, we have divided our products range into three new categories: Essential Care, Comfort Care and Problem Solver. Essential Care for safe bathing fun all round Very few products are necessary to carry out a solid treatment of your pool water. Products in this category are essential for clean pool water. All they include is the adjustment of the ph value with ph-minus or ph-plus, the disinfection of the water with slow dissolving chlorine or bromine tablets, or the chlorine-free method and the testing of the water with test strips. These basic steps must be carried out regularly during the whole bathing season. Making it easy to find products BAYROL offers everything a pool owner needs for optimum pool care. As part of our new Corporate Design, our product labels have been redesigned completely. The new look and the description will help you to find the right product quickly. Comfort care for enhanced bathing enjoyment Essential care is sufficient for many pools. However, if you wish your pool water to be even cleaner, even more pleasant and crystal clear, you can apply additional products from the comfort care range. In this category, you will also find products for algae prevention, water cleansing and flocculation as well as water testing and cleaning of pool and filters. Problem solvers for any eventualities Even with regular care, from time to time the pool water might develop problems. This can be caused by many different factors: for example a large number of bathers, a heavy summer thunderstorm or other environmental influences can rapidly lead to unsightly water.
