Any volunteers interested in helping at the One More Time Performance (on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.), please contact me at kitkkkr@aol.com. Thank you in advance! --Kittie Borton Car washes pave the path to Chicago Thank you to everyone who helped with the car washes this summer. The kids and the parents worked hard, but also had a lot of fun too. Together, we raised $4,629, which will be applied towards the total cost of our trip to Chicago. --Terri Criss aka, Bubbles McGee A word from our president Hello Band Family, Welcome to the Cuyahoga Falls Band Family! There has been so much activity since June with the Tiger Band. A new class of musicians has joined the high school band, and we are so glad to have all of the new students join us. We are also welcoming a new class of musicians in the sixth grade. It is so exciting to start playing an instrument, and, before we know it, they will be playing songs familiar to all of us at their first concert in December. Marching band has been working hard since June, but the season is quickly coming to an end. There have been band shows, football games, and other events throughout the summer and fall. The students have been working hard, and, as a result, the kids look amazing this year! Please consider coming to the One More Time concert on Tuesday, Nov. 4, to see them perform all of the music from the 2016 season. Another great event will be at the Lake Erie Monsters game on Nov. 19. Juniors and seniors will be marching on the ice after the first period of the game. Please see the flyer for more details and ticket information. For each ticket sold, the band will receive a portion of the sale. Be sure to tune into WGN on Thanksgiving Day for the Thanksgiving Parade where our own Marching Tiger Band will be performing. We are excited to share their talents with the people of Chicago and beyond. The Fall Concert Band has been working together since the start of the school year and will be performing at the high school on Monday, Oct. 31. I hope to see a lot of the band family there to support these talented musicians. In December, we will have the opportunity to hear all of the bands from middle school and high school during the Holiday Concerts. It takes so many volunteers to make a program of our caliber successful. We had more than 60 volunteers help for the Preview of Bands band show in August. The rain held off, and we had a great show. I was so proud of the freshmen who had never performed the show in front of an audience until that night. There were a lot of nerves, but they did it! In September, we had our annual Tag Day Fundraiser and more than 80 volunteers helped make it a huge success. The 2016 Tag Day was the most successful ever, and we 3
could not have done it without the volunteers. In addition, I want to recognize and thank another large group of volunteers, the parents who help with uniform fittings. Marching Band fittings took place in July and Fall Concert Band in September. The uniforms have to be fitted, tailored, and sized to fit all 250 students. This is no small feat, and I want to thank all of you who have helped this season. We have a few ongoing fundraisers to help the program. Although the 2017 Entertainment Book sale is over, I do have some books still available for those interested. I have both the Cleveland and Akron area books, and each is $30. If interested, please email or contact me and I would be happy to get a book to you. We also are collecting Acme receipts through the end of December. The Community Cash Back was a great success last year and, with your help, it can be again. Please save your receipts and ask family, friends, and neighbors to also save their receipts for us. Simply send them in with your student and place them in the Acme receipt boxes in the band rooms. We are also recycling computer ink cartridges. The small ones that most of us use at home are actually the best to recycle, but we take all ink cartridges. The company does not recycle toner so ink cartridges only please. Cartridges can be dropped off in the band rooms and there are also yellow recycle bins in the water closet at the high school. Finally, we are having our calendar fundraiser for the Marching Tiger Band. This is a 2017 glossy calendar including professional pictures of all of the sections. Please see the flyer for more information. A sample will be available at the IMP meeting, One More Time concert, and the band banquet. The deadline to order your calendar is Friday, Nov. 5, at the Marching Band Banquet. I hope you are enjoying the instrumental music program and would like to see you at the Instrumental Music Patron (IMP) meetings. The meetings are the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the high school band room. (Due to the holidays, there is no meeting held in December.) There is always a lot of great information shared at these meetings, and we would love to see you get involved. We have a lot of fun and make many lifelong friends through our children. I hope you have been enjoying our kids as much as I do. They bring a smile to my face every time I am with them and watch them perform. I am so proud to be a part of this family. Have a wonderful holiday season! --Trish Enos Recycle your ink cartridges into cash for IMP IMP is collecting used printer ink cartridges. We receive money back from Cartridge World to go toward our general fund. Please drop off your used cartridges by the marching band water closet (across from the band room). The small ones from personal printers actually yield the highest return, but we ll also take your printer cartridges from work. Please encourage friends, co-workers, family, and neighbors to participate. It s good for the music program and the environment. Any questions? Please text me at 330-618-5291. Thank you to everyone who has dropped off cartridges already. I ll be heading over to Cartridge World soon! --Susan Spinner
Updates from the Uniform Moms Marching Band The uniform parents would like remind marching band kids to take spats, gloves, and socks home for cleaning. A fresh, white appearance adds very nice details to the uniform. It is also recommended that you keep an eye on those shoes. Mud streaks and clumps are part of the season, but kids can clean them outside with a brush to loosen stuck mud. We do have black shoe polish once the shoes are clean. Please remember tall white socks, band t-shirts, spats, and white gloves. We do continue to sell these items in the hallway before performances. Concert Band Fall Concert Band: The first performance is at the end of the month. Just a reminder: Boys are in tuxes and need all-white t-shirts, calflength black socks, and all-black shoes for each performance. Girls in Freshman, Gold, or Black bands should wear all-white t-shirts, athletic shorts, and black flats (black soles, please). The girls will put their blouses and long black skirts on over top. Girls in Symphonic Band should wear a scoop-neck t-shirt, athletic shorts, and black flats (black soles, please). We ask that the girls are in black flats for their own safety because they are moving up and down stairs, carrying instruments, and music folders...any heel will make this dangerous. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us or have your student find us at closet 10. We would also like to thank the directors/parents who step up and help the kids look as good as they sound. This includes bleacher cleaning(!), organizing, and inventorying uniforms after cleanings or rain events, moving racks of uniforms, label making, and more. It does take a community of help, and we are always grateful. --The Uniform Parents 2016-17 IMP Officers Trish Enos, President 330-607-2079 trishenos@gmail.com Kalli Alvis, 1 st Vice President 330-618-4817 kallalvis@gmail.com Therese Dunphy, 2 nd Vice President 330-714-9150 tldunphy@neo.rr.com Tom Anderson, Treasurer 330-945-4529 imptreasurer@yahoo.com Susan Spinner, Secretary u 330-618-5291 sspinner@fortiscollege.ed Keep track of your Acme receipts Be sure to save your Acme receipts.
