Constitution and Guidelines Mission Statement: The mission of the Greenville College Cheerleading Program is to glorify God through the gifts and talents He has given us, through leading and bringing school spirit on campus and at the sporting events GC Cheerleaders are also representatives of Greenville College in other GC/Community events. Academic Qualifications: Each squad member, male or female, shall maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better. All members must be enrolled as a full time student at GC. (min. 12 credit hours per semester) Additional Information: With a Spirit Scholarship, the above will be enforced, as well as active participation in GC activities. 1 HR credit will be offered to each Cheerleader for being an active part of the program for that year. Selection of Members: Cheerleading tryouts shall be held during the spring semester of each year and shall be open to female and male students who meet the Academic Qualifications stated above. Any member who quits or is dismissed from the program, for any reason, shall not be eligible to tryout for the program in the future. Those receiving Spirit Scholarships will/may lose funding. The Coach, in extreme situations, may adapt this regulation only. Judging for cheerleaders shall include, but will not limited to, the following criteria: Presentation/Appearance Spirit 2 Sideline chants Stunting A 2-4 8 count dance Tumbling 2 jumps (1 must be Toe Touch) Recommendation or interview Tryout Sessions will be held over a 2-3 day period. The coach will teach all interested individuals 2 sideline chants, a 2-4 8-count dance, and will offer assistance in stunting, jumps, and tumbling. On the final day, official tryouts will

be held, after an hour of practicing and warm-ups. Closed tryouts will be held and a squad selected by 3 judges. Notification of membership will be emailed to the new squad by the following day! Judges will consist of the Cheer/Dance Director, Head Coach, and a visiting qualified person/coach outside the College. (Students are not allowed to sit on the judges panel) There will be (optional) open workouts before tryouts. See cheer website for more information. If you are unable to attend tryouts you can submit a video application. This must be approved by the coach and must have as much of what we will be doing at tryouts as possible. Duties and Responsibilities of Members: Being a member of the GC Cheerleading program is a major commitment of nonacademic time and cannot be placed secondary to other non-academic activities. It is the member s responsibility to arrange his/her activity/work schedules to times which do not interfere with academics, practice, or performance time. Squad members are required to attend all practices, attend special events, perform at all home football and basketball games, and attend fundraisers and service projects. These are mandatory. Depending on circumstances, a member may be excused from a practice if notification is received in advance and approved of by the coach. Practices will be held 3-5 times per week for 2-3 hours each. Members should arrive 10 minutes before scheduled practice time and are expected to stay for the entire practice. Squad members will have the privilege and the responsibility to exemplify appropriate Christian conduct both individually and for the squad as a whole. Squad members shall come to practice, games, and performances prepared mentally and physically to work. No loose fitted clothing Proper undergarments (sports bras and briefs for females, compression shorts for males) are to be worn at all practices and performances, as well as proper footwear. No jewelry, No gum. Hair is to be place in a manner that is out of face Appearance and Physical behavior: All squad members shall maintain a good appearance as a representative of the Cheerleading Program and Greenville College. All tattoos shall be covered at all times during all performances.

Belly rings, tongue rings and all facial piercing must be removed during all practices and performances. An annual physical exam is required to maintain a position on the squad. The completed physical exam form must be filed with the coach before participation is allowed. Attitude, Behavior, and Attendance: All members are expected to honor and abide by the Greenville College mission, policies and Lifestyle Statement. No absences or late arrivals shall be considered excused unless the approval of the coach has been granted. Members missing any portion of practice due to an approved activity are responsible for information and material missed by the next practice. If you do not practice, you will not cheer. Excused absences will be allowed to cheer, with permission of coach. All members are expected to display Christian behavior in and out of uniform. If you have an injury that keeps you from participating fully in practice, games, or performances, you must provide a doctor s/trainers note to be released. Social Media Policy: All squad members shall maintain a good appearance as a representative of the Cheerleading Program and Greenville College. All media posted on any website (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, etc.) must be decent and represent Greenville College s policies and Lifestyle Statement. The coach has the right to request removal of any pictures, comments, discussions, etc. Fundraising and Public Relations: Any fundraising or public relations activity must be equally shared and receive prior approval by the institution. Travel Policies: The squad members will travel in a group and use transportation and lodging which are provided by Greenville College. Squad members may receive permission to go with his/her parents during free time; however, other members may not accompany them.

Squad members will travel, perform, and eat together. Treat your fellow members with respect and courtesy. Each member is responsible for their fellow member s and own behavior. Please think before you act...remember you represent Greenville College, but more importantly God. Uniforms: Members are responsible for any loss, damage, or destruction to uniforms or equipment. Game uniforms are only to be worn at games, performances, and other occasions specified by the coach. Failure to return or replace any part of a uniform or equipment will result in the member receiving an accounts receivable hold with the Greenville College Business Office for the cost of equipment/uniform. Greenville College will provide uniform,, bows, poms, and backpack/bag. Members will be responsible to purchase their own sports bras, briefs, compression shorts, midriff, socks, and shoes. Warm-ups are optional. (opt. if you want to purchase a t-shirt for any special event) Authority: The coach is responsible for the health and safety of the squad members. His/Her authority is final on all matters relating to practice and performance activities. The coach is responsible for identifying a squad s particular ability level and will limit the squad s activities accordingly. The coach shall set a good example for the other squad members being tactful, punctual, a good sport, enthusiastic, encouraging, and supportive. The coach will enforce guidelines/rules at practices, games, and special events. Term of Appointment: The yearly term of appointment shall be from the time of selection until a new squad is selected. Athletic Department Discipline Policy: The Student Handbook lists the college s disciplinary policies in detail. It is advisable for all student/athletes to become informed of what is expected of him/her as a student-athlete at Greenville College. Various levels of discipline may be administered. Each case is handled on an individual basis and may result in a personal growth initiative plan, probation, suspension, or dismissal.

The Student Development office, in conjunction with the Athletic Department (i.e. coach), will administer the various levels of disciplinary responses, i.e. personal growth initiative, probation, suspension, and dismissal. The coaching staff will administer the penalty that directly affects the athlete and his/her participation with the team. The Athletic Department is a partner with Student Development for the purpose of encouraging growth in the lives of students. It is important that clear communication exists between the coach, player, and Student Development personnel. Information shared by the student with the coach can have significant impact upon the lives of other people on campus. Therefore, the coach, like faculty and staff, is required by the College to communicate with Student Development for the sake of the entire campus community.
