April 4-H Council Meeting I have changed the date of the April 4-H Council meeting to April 12. On the original date of April 5, I will be in Washington D.C. We have several items to decide at the meeting and I feel it is important that I be present. Club Secretary and Treasurer Notebooks To help community club leaders and the club secretary and treasurer keep an updated and well maintained officer notebook, I am asking that these two books be turned in by Friday, April 14 for me to review. I want to see what work has been done and offer suggestions or help if it is needed. Hopefully this will help these two officers keep an

updated book so they are not trying to do it all in late September when they are due. Horse Project and Achievement Levels The Kansas 4-H Horse Standard of Excellence consists of four achievement levels (I, II, III, IV), each of which contains three sections: knowledge, leadership, and horsemanship skill attainment. Once participants successfully pass the required sections, they will receive certification of achievements and be granted the right to advance to the next level. Participants that fail either the written exam, or skill test, can retake the exam at any time. Horse Project members must pass the written and leadership requirements prior to taking the skills test. Members that start the project without completing the skill section can later complete that section. However, they cannot enter a higher level skill section without going back and completing skill sections previously skipped. Only Achievement Level 1 will be required by 4-H members ages 9-18 wanting to participate at the District and/or State horse show. This must be done prior to the entry deadlines for the District show. The Southeast Area District Horse Show is July 6 at Parsons. Entry deadline is June 15. If interested in this, contact Richard well in advance to allow you time to get the tests completed. Visit the Rolling Prairie page if you would like to download and print forms online: http://www.rollingprairie.k-state.edu/healthnutrition/walk_kansas/index.html.
