Lessons Racquet Restringing Let's get those tennis games up and in shape! Form your own small group and take a clinic or a private lesson to address your areas of concern. Lessons will help to improve your weaker areas and build on your strengths. Lessons will help your tennis game - that we can assure you! Please contact Tennis Director Mike Brandon at mbrandon@evergreen-lm.com for lessons. Private and group lessons accessible upon request. Bring in your racquet to have it inspected for restringing. REMEM- BER that racquets should be restrung at least three times per year. A properly strung racquet will aid you in ball striking, and arm troubles will also benefit with new strings. Mike s Corner I have posted on the tennis bulletin board (court 1) two different tennis tournaments. The Landings (Fort Myers) is hosting one towards the end of October and Academia Sanchez- Casal (Naples) is hosting a November 2-11 tournament. Both tournaments are open to all different levels of play. I am accepting entries for our November 3 rd Tennis fund raiser. This fun doubles event will feature different partners via a blind draw. If you are a new tennis player we will provide courts and low compression balls for you to enjoy this event. The event will run from 8:30-11 a.m., entry fee is $12 per person with all proceeds going to Madisen s Match which supports the pediatric and adult cancer treatment programs of the Lee Health Foundation. Please see or email Mike. League Season is here! All home matches are posted on the tennis bulletin board. Come out and support your teams! Here is an interesting snippet from an article in The New York Times: Playing tennis and other sports that are social might add years to your life, according to a new epidemiological study of Danish men and women. The study found that adults who reported frequently participating in tennis or other racquet and team sports lived longer than people who were sedentary. But they also lived longer than people who took part in reliably healthy but often solitary activities such as jogging, swimming and cycling. FUTURE EVENTS: I will be hosting a Wilson Tennis demo day in January. Last year Somerset hosted this event which was the largest turnout for Wilson for the year. In early December we will be hosting a Grill and Chill Tennis Happy Hour Mixer. We will have a Somerset Club Tennis Ladder (LADDERO) that will include both doubles and singles. The singles will be a half court diagonal format which will reduce the running and increase the hitting during each point. Details for these events will soon follow. Sincerely, Mike Brandon Tennis Director
