This is the first year that the conference was held in a city other than Atlanta, Georgia. During his opening remarks, Dr. Jordan Troisi, Director of the STP Annual Conference on Teaching, announced that the conference attracted both the highest number of symposia (40) and the largest attendance (222) in its history. Troisi announced that the ACT will be held in Phoenix, Arizona in 2018 and Denver, Colorado in 2019. 1
STP PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS After the opening remarks, STP President Ken Keith delivered his Presidential Address, Saving the Soul of Psychology: Why Teachers Matter. PASSING THE GAVEL During the STP Business meeting, President Keith passed the gavel to incoming President Sue Frantz (left photo), who recognized Keith for his service as 2017 STP President (center photo). Frantz announced that one of the initiatives she will focus on during her 2018 Presidential term is an examination of the content and delivery of the Introductory Psychology course (right photo). 2
INVITED ADDRESS Dr. Alexandra Rutherford, York University, delivered Friday s Invited Address, Feminism and Gender in the Psychology Classroom: Why We Need Them Now More Than Ever. BILL HILL KEYNOTE ADDRESS Dr. R. Eric Landrum, Boise State University, delivered Saturday s Bill Hill Keynote Address, Affordances and Alignments: Continuing Challenges in Advising Undergraduate Psychology Majors. 3
PRESENTATION OF STP AWARDS Vice President for Recognition and Awards Amy Fineburg introduced the recipients of STP s annual Excellence in Teaching Awards. Krisztina Jakobsen, Associate Chair of the STP Teaching Excellence Committee, assisted Fineburg in presenting awards to each recipient. The award recipients were: Mary Margaret Moffett Memorial Teaching Excellence Award (high school) Laura Brandt (top left) Adjunct Teaching Excellence Award Dr. Jeremy Doughan (top center) Wilbert J. PRESIDENTIAL CITATION During the STP Business Meeting, President Keith bestowed a Presidential Citation to Martha Boenau, Associate Director for Precollege and Undergraduate Education, for her steadfast support of programs and initiatives that have advanced teachers and teaching of psychology during her decades of work in the Education Directorate at the American Psychological Association. RECOGNITION FOR SERVICE President Keith recognized the following officers on STP s Executive Committee whose terms of service will end in December 2017: Secretary: Tom Pusateri (leftmost) Treasurer: Dave Kreiner (center left) Vice President for Programming: Aaron Richmond (center right) Vice President for Resources: Jeff Stowell (rightmost) Executive Director: Ted Bosack (see Special Recognition) SPECIAL RECOGNITION In special recognition for his ten years of service as Executive Director, President Keith announced that STP has collaborated with the coordinators of the New England Psychological Association and the Northeastern Conference on the Teaching of Psychology by establishing the Ted Bosack Fund for Teaching of Psychology. 5
CONCURRENT SESSIONS This year s Annual Conference on Teaching included 40 symposia during concurrent sessions, the largest number of symposia ever offered during the history of the conference.
