Welcome to Pegasus Cheer Athletics! We are very excited to offer a low cost, high value cheerleading program to the athletes and families of the Quinte region. Below you will find the competitive teams that will be available for the 2015-2016 season, along with all of the financial and attendance commitments necessary to be on a competitive cheer team at Pegasus. If you require any more information about our competitive program, please contact us through email at info@pegasuscheer.com, by telephone at 613-779-8644, or speak with either of the directors (Liz or Michelle) during one of our cheer sessions. We are thrilled to be offering both competitive and recreational cheerleading in the Quinte area and look forward to working with each individual athlete to help them reach their potential. *Spread Your Wings and Fly* Competitive Cheerleading: Cheerleading is one of the fastest growing competitive sports in Canada. Athletes perform motions, jumps, tumbling, stunts, and dancing, all within a two and a half-minute timeframe. It s a great way to improve strength, flexibility, endurance, and co-ordination. Being a valuable member of a team is also a great way to build self-confidence and develop social skills. Competitive cheerleading is the ultimate team sport, as it relies on every member of the team to be successful. Length of the Cheerleading Season: Our season runs from September until the middle/end of May for all teams. Please note that working with a full-year team is a full-year commitment, one that is agreed upon by both athlete and parent/guardian at registration. Depending on the level of team, athletes will practice either one day per week or two each week of the season (excluding Christmas Break). As competitions get closer, Pegasus athletes will be attending extra practice sessions. These will be set at the Directors discretion. Families will be given the date(s) and time(s) as soon as they are set. Team Practice Schedule: Practices for all teams will be held at the Pegasus gym, 1989 Old Hwy #2, just west of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road, Belleville. Age Division, Level Practice Day & Time Tiny, ages 3-6 Prep Level 1 Sun 11am-12pm Mini, ages 8 & under Prep Level 1 Mon 5:30-7pm Youth, ages 9-11 Prep level TBD Fri 5:30-7pm Youth Elite, ages 11 & under Level TBD Sun 4-6pm / Tues 5:30-7:30pm Junior, ages 12-14 Prep Level TBD Thurs 5:30-7pm Junior Elite, ages 14 & under Level TBD Sun 6-8pm / Thurs 7-9pm Senior, ages 15-18 Prep Level TBD Mon 7-8:30pm Cheer teams must have a minimum of five (5) athletes to compete. If teams are smaller than this, they can participate in a non-compete division. Age groups may be combined, if necessary, to allow each team to excel in their divisions.

Team Practice Schedule (cont d): All teams, with the exception of the Elite teams, will compete in the Prep division, unless otherwise decided by Pegasus Cheer Athletics Coaches and Directors. This designation allows our teams to compete against other small, beginning teams. Prep teams complete a two-minute routine (versus 2 ½ mins in the All Star category), do not throw baskets, perform once at a two-day event, and practise only once a week. Attendance: Practices are mandatory and athletes must arrive on time. If the athlete is sick or injured, they must still attend practice (within reason). They will not be required to participate, but will need to watch any changes that directly affect them and their team. This policy is what helps to make Pegasus Cheer athletes successful at competitions. We expect that athletes and their families will make every effort to attend team practices each and every week. An absent athlete affects the entire team and could affect the athlete s role in the routine. Competitions are also mandatory. Please carefully review the competition schedule to ensure your athlete is able to attend every event scheduled for their team. Colds and flu are a part of the Canadian winter. Athletes are expected to attend competitions; modifications to the routine will be made to assist the ill athlete and the team. Athletes who do not attend jeopardize the success of the entire team and their roles may be filled. Two mandatory parent meetings will be held throughout the season. The first one will be within the first month of practices. Parents will meet the Coaches, learn what s involved in building a team, and what to expect over the competition season. The second mandatory meeting will cover what to expect at competitions, uniform care, and extra practice information. Gym Closures: Pegasus Cheer strives to maintain a consistent practice schedule for all of its athletes, even in the winter. Practices will run as scheduled, unless otherwise determined by the Directors. Should a snow day occur, please still plan on attending practice, unless otherwise informed by Pegasus staff. Class cancellations will be posted through social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Remind. Pegasus Cheer will be closed from December 21, 2015 through January 3, 2016 for Christmas Break.

Team Placement: At Pegasus Cheer, there is a team for everyone, regardless of skill level or experience. All of our yearly teams are formed during the second week of September, with only limited spaces available after that date. Athletes interested in joining a competitive team are asked to attend the assessment clinic appropriate for their age group. Cost is $10.00 per session for new athletes and $5 per session for returning athletes. Fees paid will be applied to the amount due at registration. If the athlete is unable to be present, please speak with either Michelle or Liz to see about an alternate assessment appointment. Tiny and special needs athletes are not required to attend. Athletes will be contacted by email on Friday, September 18 th with team placement offers. Open athletes will receive placement offers on Monday, September 21 st. Wednesday, September 16 th : Thursday, September 17 th : Minis (ages 6-8): 5:30PM 7:00PM Youth (ages 9-11): 5:30PM 7:00PM Senior (ages 15-18): 7:00PM 8:30PM Junior (ages 12-14): 7:00PM 8:30PM Team placement clinics are held in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Anything an athlete needs to know will be taught and no experience is necessary. A variety of athletic ability evaluations are used, such as endurance, tumbling, flexibility, strength, and jumps, all according to USASF guidelines (www.usasf.net). We will be looking not only for the necessary skills, but also an enthusiasm for learning, a positive attitude, and the ability to take direction. Teams are built using a variety of considerations, including age, skillset, possible stunt group combination, and what s best for the team. Levels will be based on the majority of the skills demonstrated by the athletes on that team. Individual, Duo, or Stunt Group for Competition: There are specialty divisions at all competitions. Individual, or Indy, is a solo performance consisting of dance, tumbling, jumps, and motions. Duo is a two-person performance consisting of dance, tumbling, jumps, and motions. Stunt Group is a four or five-person performance consisting of stunt only. Any athlete who wishes to compete in a specialty division should speak with Michelle or Liz about availability of coaching hours and for applicable fees. Competitions and Travelling: Pegasus Cheer Athletics will be attending a variety of cheerleading competitions, both locally and elsewhere in the province. Parents are responsible for transporting their athlete(s) to and from competitions and its associated costs (hotel, fuel, etc.). ALL COMPETITIONS ARE MANDATORY. The list of competitions and dates is set by outside companies and can be subject to change. Though we strive to ensure as few interruptions to this schedule as possible, Pegasus Cheer does not control the dates and venues. Families will be updated as soon as possible should a competition date or venue change.

Proceeds from this fundraiser go towards Pegasus Cheer s equipment fund, helping to pay for the purchase and upkeep of all things the gym needs to safely train Pegasus athletes and keep them competitive.

Additional Expenses Related to Being on a Team: The following items are not included in the above fees and are the sole responsibility of the athlete(s) and their family: Cheer shoes please speak with either Liz or Michelle regarding shoes for your athlete(s). No specific shoe is required, but we will make recommendations based on your athlete. A group order for cheer shoes will be placed early in the season for those who wish to participate. Travel to and from competitions parents are responsible for their own athlete s transportation to and from all competitions. Hotel accommodations one night hotel stays MAY be necessary for all Canadian competitions. Parents are responsible for their own athlete s accommodations with their own parent or with another parent. Pegasus Cheer Athletics does not require athletes and their families to stay in one specific hotel (with the possible exception of Cheer Evolution Nationals), though athletes find it is part of the experience to stay in the same hotel as their teammates. Hotel information is posted on Pegasus Facebook Member Page as competitions get closer. Tumbling Packages: If your athlete loves tumbling and cheerleading, they should be learning their skills with a Pegasus Cheer tumbling coach. Cheerleading tumbling differs from other tumbling sports and our coaches are specially trained to teach specific techniques unique to cheerleaders. Tumbling is divided into different levels, each teaching specific skills that build on skills mastered at the previous level. Level 1: Front and back rolls, cartwheels, round offs, front and back walkovers, bridge from standing, etc. Proper technique, form, and strength building. Drills and skills to prepare for Level 2. Level 2: Front and back handsprings, connecting skills, etc. Drills and skills to perfect Level 2 and prepare for Level 3. Level 3: Round off back tucks, round off handspring tucks, multiple standing handsprings, etc. Drills and skills to perfect Level 3 and prepare for Level 4. Level 4 & above: Please inquire. Tumbling Packages (cont d): Semi-private sessions are 45 minutes in length and are held on Sunday afternoons or Friday evenings with three packages to choose from: SESSION NO. Group classes are one hour in length and are held three times a year fall, winter, and summer. Each 12-week session is $120. All tumbling spots are based on a first come, first served basis and go very quickly. It is recommended that athletes book their season in advance to save their spot. Rules, Regulations, and Guidelines: Pegasus Cheer values its athletes and works to ensure a respectful and positive environment. Athletes are expected to abide by the following rules, regulations, and guidelines: Practice your skills. Athletes are expected to set goals and work to achieve them. Each milestone reached helps your team succeed. Keep positive. Learning a cheer routine is hard work, especially when someone is new to the world of cheer. Having an open, positive atmosphere goes a long way towards helping the team build confidence. Negative comments are not acceptable and will be addressed with the individuals involved. Be a good teammate. Good teammates talk each other up, not down. Gossip, bullying, or alienating are not welcome at Pegasus Cheer and will not be tolerated. Be respectful to teammates, Coaches, CITs, parents, volunteers, and guests. Pegasus staff promise to do the same. Communicate with your Coaches. They won t know you re hurt unless you tell them. Use social media wisely. Every Pegasus athlete is a representative of the gym. Posting negative comments on social media about the team, Pegasus Cheer staff, the gym, other athletes, or other gyms will not be tolerated and may be cause for dismissal from the team. Listen and be safe. Learning a new skill is exciting, but it s important to make sure you re always listening to your Coach. They are trained to help you master a skill before moving on to the next one. Have fun! Hard work and perseverance pay off. Having fun while you do it is even better.

Rules, Regulations, and Guidelines (cont d) Parents play a vital role in their athlete s achievements. Please show your support by following these guidelines: Support your athlete and cheer them on. Tell them you love them and that you re proud of them. Encourage them to continue to work hard and celebrate with them when they learn a new skill. Respect the Coaches. Coaches are specially trained to ensure your athlete learns about cheer in the safest way possible. Please do not distract the athletes while they are working. Calling out to them during practice can divert their attention and a split second is all it can take for an accident to happen. Support the Coaches. Your athlete s Coach builds the routine and stunt groups based on what s best for the team. Coaches reserve the right to modify those routines as needed, and athletes and their families will be expected to support any decisions made. Teach your athlete responsibility. Pegasus Cheer works hard to teach athletes the role responsibility plays when being a member of a team. We rely on parents to help us enforce our attendance policy by making sure their athlete attends practice each week and that they are on time. Support the team. One missing athlete affects the entire team. Removing cheer is not an acceptable form of punishment, as it impacts the entire team. Communicate with staff. Pegasus Cheer prides itself on keeping an open, positive environment, and are always happy to discuss any concerns a parent may have. If you have a concern, please address it with one of the Directors and not with other parents, so we can solve the issue or explain the reasoning behind it. Keep up to date. Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook and sign up for our Facebook Members page and Remind to keep up to date with gym information. Parents are also always welcome to attend practice, where we will be sharing information with the athletes at the end of their session. Make payments on time. Competitive cheerleading involves many aspects and requires numerous items to put a team together. Pegasus Cheer must meet order deadlines in order for the team to have everything it needs to be successful. Please ensure you follow the payment schedule as set above, unless otherwise directed by Pegasus staff. Athletes with past due bills will be asked to sit out of practice until their account comes into good standing. Frequently Asked Questions: How do I get in touch with Pegasus Cheer Athletics? Should you have any questions or need any information that needs immediate attention, the best way to contact us is by calling us directly at 613-779-8644. Questions about programs and registration can be sent to our Directors, Liz and Michelle, at info@pegasuscheer.com. For up to date information, follow us on Facebook (Pegasus Cheer Athletics), Instagram (pegasuscheer), and Twitter (Pegasus_CA). What do I bring to practice? As cheerleading is a highly active sport, it is strongly recommended that each athlete brings a water bottle to practice. Other good things to bring include hair elastics and a hair brush. As Pegasus Cheer strives to provide an allergy-friendly atmosphere, snacks are requested to be peanut/nut-free. Please ensure athletes have had a light meal before practice.

Frequently Asked Questions (cont d): What should I wear to practice? All Pegasus Cheer athletes are provided with a program t-shirt. Prep level athletes must wear black shorts, capris, or leggings and their Pegasus t-shirt. Elite athletes are provided with a full practice uniform that is to be worn each week. Athletes are responsible for ensuring their uniform is complete and clean for each practice. Alternate Pegasus ProShop gear will be available for purchase, should athletes wish to purchase secondary workout gear. Clean, indoor shoes are mandatory and cheer shoes are best. Long hair must be secured in a ponytail, braid, or bun and no jewellery is allowed to be worn. Please keep this in mind when thinking of getting ears pierced. What should I wear to competitions? Each athlete is provided with a full uniform, including jacket or warm up suit and competition bow. Parents, siblings, and friends who attend competitions are welcome to cheer on the teams from the Fan Zone and are encouraged to wear Pegasus colours. You can also check out Pegasus ProShop for a selection of t-shirts and hoodies to wear. Can my athlete be on two teams? Maybe. If your athlete is looking for more, crossing over (being on two teams) may be a good option. However, an athlete s first loyalty is to their home team and only a limited number of athletes may be selected as crossovers. Selection will be based on the athlete s skill level and the specific needs of the crossover team. What else does Pegasus Cheer Athletics offer? Pegasus Cheer is proud to offer full-year competitive teams, as well as recreational classes, half-year pre-comp teams (September January and January May), skill strengthening classes, Bring a Friend nights, summer classes, and birthday parties! What other kind of fun things do Pegasus Athletes do? Pegasus Cheer athletes do lots of fun things outside of practice and competitions, including Hallowe en dress up, team sleepovers, movie nights, and more! We also participate in select extracurricular events, such as sports registration days, Belleville Waterfront Festival, Culture Days, and holiday parades. How do we go about registering? It s easy. Attend the Team Placement Assessment Session for your athlete s age group during the week of September 13 th (please see Team Placement). Once an assessment has been completed, Pegasus Cheer staff will contact all participants and inform them which team athletes will be on. Bring your signed registration and waiver forms, payment, and registration fee to practice the following week. You can also pre-register at the assessment session by filling out the registration and waiver forms and making the first month s Prep payment plus registration fee. Athletes who are successful in placing on an Elite team will need to pay the difference the following week, as per the payment schedule.
