Welcome to the Powersports all-star cheerleading program! We are entering our 6th season of competitive cheer and we have some great things in store for the upcoming season. We are so proud to have our 11,000 sq. ft. cheerleading facility, helping to improve our program, athletes, and coaches as we continue to grow into a bigger and better program. Our overall goal is to train highly competitive teams (through a positive, fun, and safe environment) while guiding our athletes to reach individual and team goals. We believe that our success comes from parent, athlete, and coach commitment and the great things that happen when all three of the parties work together. Although our most direct focus is training our athletes to become successful cheerleaders, we believe our cheer program goes far beyond skill progression and championship banners. We focus on the value of teamwork, commitment, goal setting, and character. These are lifetime skills that we feel make our athletes more prepared for the future both inside and outside of the cheer world. We hope you find this packet informative and look forward to working with you and your family this season!

What is a Show Team? The Little Dippers are called a Show team or Exhibition team. This is a team made up of 4 to 6 year olds that are beginner cheerleaders. It is a great introduction into the competitive cheer world. They perform at competitions rather than compete. They wear a complete uniform just like the competitive teams, attend competitions and show-offs with the competitive teams, and have a choreographed 2 minute routine they memorize and perform to music. What do they learn while on Show Team? The coaches focus on teaching the athletes basic motor skills as well as jumps, motions and dance along with beginning tumbling and stunting skills. They work on learning how to focus and pay attention for an hour long practice as well as how to take direction and function in a controlled environment. In addition, they will learn a choreographed 2 minute routine that they will perform at show-offs and competitions. It is amazing to see how much these little athletes learn from the beginning to the end of the season! But most importantly, they are making friends, memories, and having fun! How do I know if my child is ready? 1) Is your child 4 years old by August 31, 2016? 2) Can they handle one hour of activity without a parent? 3) Can they use the bathroom by themselves? How long is the season? The season lasts from August 2016 through March 2017

Teamwork Teaching the value of being a team player is important to our program and coaches. The principals learned at a young age from being on this team will stay with them long after the season ends. Because of this, we have high expectations regarding how our practices are run and how our athletes work together. The way our team members treat each other and their coaches is the first step in building a strong team. Our coaching goal is to make practice and competitions FUN yet effective. We attempt to create a positive environment and use hugs and encouragement as our primary motivators. We expect our cheerleaders to improve their technique and progress skills through efficient, organized practices while still enjoying it! We understand that each child is different and if necessary, will work with each parent in the disciplinary action for his or her child. Communication is the key, so please let us know how we can best work with you and your child to create the most positive learning environment. Character At Powersports, we have high expectations of our athletes character and we take this very seriously. Our athletes and their families represent our gym, program, and community at each performance. We expect ALL members (parents, athletes, etc.) of our program to exhibit positive character and sportsmanship at ALL times. We expect our athletes to be respectful to teammates and coaches. Inappropriate behavior, comments, or facial expressions towards a coach or another athlete WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Athletes will receive a verbal warning from a coach for inappropriate behavior. The second warning will result in sitting out during practice time. The third warning will result in dismissal from practice. Multiple practice dismissals will result in removal from squad. Gossip is infectious and can ruin a team. This includes gossip inside and outside of the gym. Please focus on yourself and your child. Any concerns you have are more than welcome to be discussed with the coaches. We value your opinions. All personal issues will be handled with Ashley (or another coach) in a private and professional manner. We will not tolerate gossip or negative remarks regarding our program or our athletes. Athlete and parent gossip can result in immediate dismissal from our program. Additionally, we will not tolerate comments about other programs.

Practice Rules Even though this is an intro to competitive cheer, your child is still on a team and we need all team members at practice when we are practicing our routine for competition. Please keep in mind that it is hard for little ones to remember their spots when their teammates are missing. ONLY Athletes are allowed on the practice floor. Parents MUST stay in the viewing room at all times. If your presence is deemed necessary, a coach will come to get you. For safety reasons, there is to be NO JEWELRY worn at practice. NO cell phones, food, gum, or drinks allowed in the gym. All cheer bags and extra clothes should be left in the viewing area. All athletes are expected to arrive on time wearing their correct practice clothes. Parent communication is primarily through email, bi-monthly newsletters, and Group Me. Valuable time is spent on writing emails and newsletters so please take the time to read them. Team parents will be responsible for relaying last minute changes and specific details. It is your responsibility to update any changes to the phone directory with your team representative. Team parents are the liaison between the coaches and parents at competition and during team events ONLY. All questions regarding the structure of the team, routines, the Powersports Cheer program, etc. should be directed to Ashley. Coaches will be on Group Me conversations. These are not to be used for a chatting outlet. They are to relay IMPORTANT team info only. Using Powersports Property Using the Powersports name or logo in relation to posts or photos on any social media site is a powerful representation of our program. Please remember, anything you say is a direct reflection of our program as a whole. Negative or unjust posts will not be tolerated from athletes or parents of our program. The Powersports Logo cannot be used, worn, or sold without the direct written consent from Ashley or Thad. Anything without our approval cannot be worn or sold.

Competitive cheerleading team is a large financial commitment. The competitive nature of the sport, the competitions, the travel, etc. is makes the sport more expensive than some others that your child may have participated in in the past. We understand this and do our best to keep cost at a minimum and do not overcharge for expenses. Some of these items are marked with approximate cost because we have given a best guess estimate and they will be adjusted one we know the actual cost.
