With the rain pouring down Thursday, Friday, Saturday AND Saturday night I was forced to rethink my weekend riding plans as most of the events on the Scooter News calendar would be hard going. I had planned to do the DMCC off road champs round at enduro at Erica this weekend but because of the rain it was shifted to Wonthaggi as a sprint, and my mojo was all over the place. We had been invited up to the Broadford State Motorcycle Complex by Champions earlier this year to promote their ride days but today there was an ulterior motive to get a look at the track before the next round of the Northerns this coming Saturday and to give you Northern Series riders a bit of a heads up. Aren t we kind?? Even as we drove through Kinglake on Sunday morning it was still raining and the light rain persisted all the way to the track. We arrived around 10am with a few riders circulating round the track in the muddy conditions. But nevertheless they were having fun and blue skies were poking through the clouds. Jo went over to sign in, finding coordinator Rikki Dryden keeping warm in the demountable. Young Daniel Webber #507 on his RMZ250 4 stroke handling the conditions very confidently Daniel has recently moved up into Snr C Grade and can be seen racing the Western Regions this year as well as the Senior Vics All of us Northern Series riders have been lucky this year with the hard packed tracks and good weather at pretty much every round so far. As you may know from the Gippies at Maffra-Sale and the Senior Vics at Colac, tracks can be challenging and ever changing in unpredictable winter weather. But that doesn t mean they are not fun or safe to ride it s the attitude you bring, the preparation that you do and the way you adjust to these conditions that matters. We thought we d give you a heads up - now, anyone going up/down to Broadford next Saturday for the Northerns I would say new rubber is a must. Do not turn up with old tyres and expect to get traction! Get along to your local motorbike shop and grab a set or two or try someone like Savage MX (Ben Handasyde) at www.savagemx.com.au or AMX stores (www.amxsuperstores.com.au) for great deals. Even with the Seymour round the next day on the Sunday I think that at both venues tyres and tyre pressures will make a huge difference so don t get caught out! And add to your usual check list A good quantity of tear offs Spare goggles A couple of pairs of gloves Spare riding gear A sense of humour 4

The Champion s Honda A Minute with Fraser Pettigrew #185 Jo got chatting with a mud-freckled rider as he attempted to tidy himself up before another session out on the track.
