SANCTUARY BAINES CAMP OKAVANGO DELTA BOTSWANA 5 SUITES Sanctuary Baines Camp is our smallest camp with only five luxurious suites. With star baths and sky beds on your private deck, this is a romantic oasis.

LUXURY, NATURALLY Adventure, enchantment and Luxury, naturally - all delivered with a quiet, understated charm and understanding of place is the guiding philosophy of Sanctuary Retreats and one of our smallest camps, Sanctuary Baines Camp. Sanctuary Baines Camp is located on a vast private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana s Okavango Delta and with its vast and diverse wildlife species is one of the premium destinations in the world for a dynamic safari experience and offers a truly unique wilderness safari in Africa. An intimate safari camp, Sanctuary Baines was named after the 19th century explorer and painter Thomas Baines. This is Sanctuary s smallest camp with just five suites set on elevated platforms in the tree line with wooden decks that offer expansive views over the permanent water of the Boro River and a lagoon teeming with life. An eco-friendly property, Sanctuary Baines Camp was built using only commercially grown wood, with over 150,000 recycled aluminium cans incorporated within the walls to provide insulation. USPS Small intimate camp with just 5 rooms Romantic Star beds and star baths make it a perfect place for honeymoons Offers an exclusive and unique Elephant interaction activity Offers land and river based activities, walking and night drives Unique bush skills activity Eco-friendly camp built from cans Complimentary Wi-Fi available in all the rooms ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES The five luxury suites are set on elevated platforms with wooden decks that offer expansive views over a permanent lagoon on the Boro River. Each luxury suite features ensuite facilities, a private viewing deck and four-poster sky beds swathed in mosquito netting. The four-poster beds are fully mobile and can easily be wheeled out onto the private wooden deck overlooking the shimmering waters of the Boro River. For the ultimate indulgence, guests can enjoy a star bath on the deck. Each room is equipped with a hairdryer, ceiling fan, in-room safe, minibar, and mosquito nets. Ensuite facilities include an indoor shower and double vanity. Complimentary wireless internet access is available in all of the rooms of the camp. The camp also has a swimming pool with two thatched salas on either side. Electricity supply is a combination of silent packed generator and battery system. LOCATION AND GETTING THERE Sanctuary Baines Camp is located in the 260,000 acre private NG32 concession which neighbours the game rich Moremi Game Reserve. The camp is accessible by air and has its own registered private airstrip located approximately 45 minutes from the camp. Flying times: (dependent on multiple pick-ups and drop offs) Maun to Baines airstrip - 15 minutes Chief s airstrip to Baines airstrip - 10 minutes Kasane to Baines airstrip - 1 hour 30 minutes Livingstone to Baines airstrip via Kasane airport - 2 hours Livingstone to Baines airstrip via Kazangula and Kasane - 2 hours and 30 minutes PLEASE NOTE: All inter-camp flights are done by Mackair and the luggage restriction is 20kg / 44lbs per person in a soft-sided bag with no wheels.

GAME VIEWING AND ACTIVITIES The game viewing around camp is thrilling. Water crossings are part of the adventure and watching zebra standing bellydeep grazing is a sight to see! Because Sanctuary Baines Camp is set in a private concession, there is the opportunity to venture out after dark on night game drives to see the nocturnal animals. Key wildlife include: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, impala, zebra, wild dog, hyena, and hippo. The following activities are included in your stay: Game drives: Enjoy game drives, spotting wildlife from open-sided 4X4 vehicles, accompanied by professional guides. Because the camp is located on a private concession, guests have the opportunity to see animals up close on both morning and evening game drives to discover incredible nocturnal species. Mokoro excursions and motorised boating: One of the best ways to view the wildlife is in a mokoro, a locally made dugout canoe or a motorised boat. Explore the waterways and lagoons that make up the Okavango Delta as you see the plains game from a new angle. (Subject to water levels). Generally mokoros are available from January to October and motorised boating from February to September but can t be guaranteed. Walking safaris: Discover the signs of the bush, accompanied by your guide and armed ranger on exciting walking safaris. The camp is set in a private concession meaning guests can get very close in perfect safety with one of our guides. BUSH SKILLS ADVENTURE Learn what it takes to survive in the delta from those who grew up in the area. Our local expert guides are ready to share their knowledge and expertise. By day put your bush skills to the test while at night indulging in the luxuries of this five star camp. The Bush skills adventure is perfect for a father and son weekend away or for a family who wants to experience a real learning adventure. The activity is available at no extra cost to a minimum of four and a maximum of six guests. In the case of two guests wanting to do the activity a private vehicle would need to be booked and paid for when making the booking. We suggest guests stay at least three nights in order to experience all the activities in this program. Learn how to: Pole a mokoro Make traditional spears for fishing and how to catch fish in the delta (catch and release basis) Track and identify animal foot prints Find out how to identify and find edible plants (seasonal) Learn how to make rope out of natural materials Find water in the bush How to construct and place traps to catch wildlife (theory practical only) Palm nut harvesting Build a shelter, navigate by the stars / sun Weave a basket ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE Elephant interaction activity: Sanctuary Retreats and non-profit charity Living with Elephants invite you to explore Africa from an elephant s perspective. Guests are able to enjoy the incredible experience of walking with two orphaned elephants in the bush brought up in the area by their guardians Doug and Sandi Groves. Every morning the elephants go for a walk around their home range, foraging for food. A few people each day are able to accompany them on their walk through the bush and see the wilds of Africa through the eyes of an elephant - a truly uplifting experience that makes a lasting impression on all who share their time with the elephants. This activity which is about four hours includes a leisurely paced walk with a pair of semi-habituated elephants, followed by a picnic lunch in their company. We recommend prebooking. The activity is offered to a minimum of two guests and available to children 9 years and older. Please note the elephants are on leave each year from 15 January 15 February (Pre-booking is essential.) Scenic helicopter flights: Enjoy a scenic helicopter flight over the permanent delta, exposing areas unreachable by vehicle or boat and showcasing the sheer enormity of the Okavango Delta. There is the option of the doors being removed for unrestricted photographic opportunities. Guests are able to choose between a 30, 45 or 60 minute tour in a three seater, one turbine Bell Jetranger helicopter. This activity is offered on a year round basis. Guests are able to choose when they would like to do the activity, however we would recommend early morning and late afternoon as this time usually provides the best light for photography. Preferred flight times can be requested in camp when making a booking.

Please let us know if you have any special requests, interests, dietary requirements, allergies or medical conditions.

PHILANTHROPY PROJECTS Living with Elephants Foundation The Living with Elephants foundation was launched in 1999 by American couple Doug and Sandi Groves, and the charity is dedicated to creating harmonious relationships between people and elephants. Living with Elephants also works to secure the long term future of its elephant ambassadors. Elephants can live for 70 years so when Doug and Sandi adopted Jabu and Morula, rescuing them from culling operations that had left them orphans, they knew they were making a life-long commitment to the pair - and that they would probably outlive the Groves by decades. Every year, Living with Elephants offers children from neighbouring villages the opportunity to interact with the elephants. Immersed in the world of the African elephant for two days, ten children at a time (aged between 9 and 12 years), along with two adult chaperones, participate in active educational games and share in discussions, art and music. They learn about the natural history, ecology and behaviour of the African elephant, their complex interaction with people, and explore actions that encourage a more positive relationship between elephants and humans. Sanctuary is proud to sponsor Living with Elephants invaluable work to improve the human-elephant interface.
