TO: FROM: The District PSSC Secretary / District Swim Convenor Regional School Sports Officer TOPIC: 2014 REGIONAL SWIM TRIALS Caboolture Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre Aquatic Centre Road Burpengary (Ph. 5431 3500) Tuesday 4 March 8.45am 2.15pm approx. A. NOMINATIONS All District Swimming Convenors / Sport Committee Secretaries are required to email their Nominations to the Regional School Sport Office using the Meet Manager Nomination Program. Please contact Leigh Halvorsen at the Regional School Sport Office by no later than Tuesday 10 th February to advise the name, school, phone and email address of the person who will be responsible for compiling and sending the District Nominations. Only students born in 2004, 2003 and 2002 are eligible. This program is to be used to nominate swimmers for the following events :- 50m x All strokes 10, 11, 12 years Boys & Girls 100m x All strokes 10, 11, 12 years Boys & Girls 200m I.M. 10, 11, 12 years Boys & Girls 200m Freestyle 10-12 years (Open) Boys & Girls All of the above events will be swum at the Regional Trials. Up to five (5) Swimmers in each event who equal or better the State Qualifying time will be invited to join the Regional Team. However, a sixth swimmer can be nominated if all swimmers equal or better the State Extra Swimmer Qualifying time. These swimmers will be advised following the completion of the event. Each event will consist of a maximum of three (3) Heats. There will be no Finals. All Heats will be timed and swimmers will be selected based on their Heat Times. Attached please find the following: 1. Program of Events for Regional Swim Trials 2. Regional Swimming Records. 3. Competition Conditions. 4. State Qualifying times. (Only nominate swimmers in 100m races, 200m Freestyle races and 200m I.M. races who can meet the Regional Qualifying times listed for those events). B. To provide Officials at the Regional Trials, Districts will be asked to send four (4) qualified Officials. Schools that provide a staff member to officiate will be paid the cost of one (1) TRS Day upon receipt of an invoice to the School Sport Office. While there is electronic timing at this venue, to operate most effectively, it is preferable to have 3 timekeepers per lane. To try to provide for this, Districts are asked to approach parents about whether they would be willing to timekeep during the Trials and

advise this office when Teacher Official names are sent. Parents will be asked to assist on the day to ensure there are 3 timekeepers per lane if necessary. C. Age Champion trophies will be awarded based on performances in 10 years, 11years & 12 years events only. The results from the Open Age (200m Freestyle) event will be calculated for those swimmers with all other events. D. The Regional Trial Nomination fee is $15.45 per competitor. This includes $3.40 entry to the pool. Districts will be invoiced for the Nomination fee ($17.00 incl. GST) by the Regional Sport Office after Nominations have been received. NB: Officials will be admitted free. Admission fee for spectators is $3.40 payable at entry. E. Nominations close at 9.00am on Monday 24 th February. Nominations are to be emailed to Leigh Halvorsen at the Regional School Sport Office. Email: leigh.halvorsen@dete.qld.gov.au Nominations must be done on the Meet Manager Program. Should a District Swimming Convenor not have access to the Meet Manager program they should contact Leigh Halvorsen at the Sunshine Coast School Sport Office as soon as possible. The 2014 Program of events will be emailed to each Convenor for use with the Meet Manager program. If Districts have difficulties with their nominations they should call Leigh Halvorsen at the School Sport Office (5459 7392) for assistance. ALL NOMINATIONS MUST HAVE AN ENTRY TIME LISTED. ALL SWIMMERS MUST BE NOMINATED WITH THE SCHOOL CODE PROVIDED IN THE MEET MANAGER EVENTS PROGRAM. NB : Each District is able to nominate three (3) swimmers per event except that for those events which have a Regional Qualifying time, a maximum of three swimmers who meet the Regional Qualifying time only should be nominated. State qualifying times will be applied for the selection of the Regional Team. Districts may nominate a fourth (4 th ) swimmer in any 50m event as long as all swimmers equal or better the State Extra Swimmer Qualifying time. If a District wishes to nominate an additional competitor in an event, this must be done in consultation with the Regional School Sport Officer and will only be possible if there is a lane available in that event. Generally, an additional competitor would only be considered under exceptional circumstances and it is expected the District would make the determination on the swimmers nominated, e.g. if a swimmer is unable to compete at the District Trial but still wants to be considered for selection in the District Team, the District Convenor should make the determination whether to include that swimmer in the three (3) nominations rather than nominate that swimmer as an additional competitor. Additional Competitor nominations cannot be accepted after 24 th February under any circumstances. No nominations or substitutions will be accepted at the Regional Trials. SEATING Swimmers should assemble in the stands in their District Teams under the supervision of the District team Mangers and remain there unless competing. SHADE This is an indoor venue.

WARM UP The main 50m pool will be available for warm ups prior to the start of the Competition from 8.00am until marshalling begins and during scheduled breaks in the program. Supervision of swimmers during this time is the responsibility of the District Team Managers. No Regional personnel will be available for supervision. Two lanes will be available in the 25m pool for swimmers to warm up / warm down. Swimmers are only to be in the 25m pool when under the supervision of Team Managers. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 1. Student with Disability (S.W.D.) Swimmers. Nomination information for swimmers in the S.W.D. (Students with Disabilities) categories will be sent directly to schools and Nominations should be returned directly to the Regional School Sport Office. Nominations for these swimmers close on 24 th February also. However, S.W.D. swimmers at a school without an SEU can be nominated by the School. S.W.D. swimmers will need to provide documentation of their Disability Classification. 2. Thirteen (13) Year old Swimmers. There will be no 13 Year old students competing at the Primary Regional Trials. All 13 Year old students will need to have swum at the Swimming Carnival at their nearest Secondary School and will access the representative Program through the same pathways as all other 13 Year Old students. 2014 REGIONAL QUALIFYING TIMES BOYS & GIRLS EVENT AGE QUALIFYING TIME 200m Individual Medley 10 Years 3.38.00 200m Individual Medley 11 Years 3.21.00 200m Individual Medley 12 Years 3.07.00 200m Freestyle Open 2.40.00 100m Freestyle 10 Years 1.30.00 11 Years 1.25.00 12 Years 1.20.00 100m Breaststroke 10 Years 1.57.00 11 Years 1.50.00 12 Years 1.40.00 100m Backstroke 10 Years 1.41.00 11 Years 1.38.00 12 Years 1.35.00 100m Butterfly 10 Years 1.45.00 11 Years 1.39.00 12 Years 1.32.00
