October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace! Rainbow Rowell I love October! Although the days are shorter, they are cooler, and the leaves add a special, colorful overlay to our beautiful course. However, I have to admit I lose more golf balls in October, because I don t always stay in the fairway. There are still plenty of golf days left and hope that you get out to enjoy our course in all its splendor. We also have a great deal of special events coming up in October, including the glow ball and Oktoberfest, which have always been a big hit. Bring your friends in to enjoy your favorite sporting events on our multiple TVs in the golf bar. Whether it is the baseball playoffs, college or professional football, with our TV system, we can tune in just about anything you would like. The one date I want you to the mark on your calendar is October 25. That is when we are planning our Committee Recruitment Fair. As I talked about last month, the Board of Directors is asking the members to help us develop a one, three, and five-year vision. We are doing this by focusing on each of the committees, and we re looking for volunteers from the membership to get involved in the process. We will be offering free beer and wine, as well as hors d oeuvres. Each committee chair will give a presentation of their committee and then solicit members to be involved in the process. As I said last month, this is a time for you to look at the level of pride you have in your Oakwood membership. It is no secret that to prevent assessments and keep our dues at a reasonable level, we need new members. It is the feeling of the board that to attract new members, we need to define who Oakwood is, so that you, our members, can become ambassadors for Oakwood. We want the committees to create such a vivid vision of the future that our members cannot wait to share it with their friends. That is how Oakwood will become the benchmark by which all the other clubs in the Quad cities are measured. Also, speaking of new members, we are running a fall special; the details are included in this month s Tattler. Enjoy Oakwood this month. It s your club, it s where you belong John Golden Board President

The two events are separate, but you are certainly welcome to participate in either or both. There will be a special buffet along with games, a costume contest, a scavenger hunt, and hayrack rides. Please be sure to make reservations for the evening prior to the 16 th. We have a wonderful committee that has been diligently planning this year s Ladies Fall Fashion Show and Luncheon. Get your group together and bring your friends to this special annual tradition. The Holiday Wine Tasting is rapidly approaching. On November 9 th there will be several vendors offering numerous wines for you to sample as well as an exceptional array of appetizers to enjoy. Golf Shop Talk October 2018 It is hard to believe that Fall is here, it seems like every year it gets here quicker. Personally this is my favorite time of year, as the temperatures begin to cool into the 70 s, and the colors of the trees on the course make it a beautiful setting. I want to thank all of you for everything you do to make Oakwood a great place to call home. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of you, and I appreciate your support as I look forward to the upcoming years. I want to thank all of you who participated in our events throughout the year. The goal of the tournament program is to offer a mix of fun and competitive events. I am always looking for new events to mix in with our current tournament schedule, so if you have an idea, stop in now and share it with me as we plan for the 2019 season. Don t forget that your golf shop credit will expire on November 1st so stop down in the shop and spend your winnings before it s too late. If you would like to know how much credit you have on the books, stop into the golf shop and we can look it up for you. We currently have our Fall Sale going on that will run through the end of the month. Enjoy the beautiful Fall weather, and I hope to see you out at the club soon!
