Presentation Night Friday 16 th November brought the NSW Sports Sedans Presentation Night, once again held at Panthers. This year saw our biggest presentation night yet, with nearly 100 people enjoying the food, beverages, presentations and entertainment. Round sponsor Mark Hayes from Hayes Productions did a fantastic job as the Master of Ceremonies and also kept the big crowd entertained with background music and dance tunes throughout the night. A special thanks once again to Helen and Sean Sullivan for their organising of the night the feedback from everyone that came along is that they had a great night and can t wait for next year s event! Also a big thank you to Doulman Automotive and Jim Aitken & Partners who provided prizes for the lucky door draws, and congratulations to our winners on the night. The official part of the night included numerous trophy and award presentations, which are highlighted below. There were also major announcements about sponsorship of NSW Sports Sedans in 2013 and the winner of the logo competition see details elsewhere in this newsletter. Recognition of Major Sponsor Air Technology Australia Presented to Rod McKellar by Vice President Chris Jackson 2012 is the last year of sponsorship support from Air Technology Australia, with Rod announcing his retirement at the end of this year. On behalf of all NSW Sports Sedan competitors the committee would like to extend a warm thank you to Rod and wish him well in retirement. Not that he is stepping away from Sports Sedans completely, as he is planning to continue hanging around to annoy us!! On a personal note from this author, thank you truly for having the confidence in this category and the committee, and our ability to be able to turn things around and move Sports Sedans forward. Your support means a lot. Here are a few random photos from the Presentation Night: DON T FORGET TO COME TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY 4 th DECEMBER 11

New Major Sponsor for 2013 and Beyond An announcement was made at the Presentation Night regarding Kumho Tyres coming on board as our major sponsor in 2013. The signing of a new major sponsor is testament to the fact that NSW Sports Sedans is heading in the right direction in terms of competitor numbers, quality of racing and management of our category in this state. On behalf of all NSW Sports Sedan competitors the committee would like to welcome Kumho Tyres and Peak Race Tyres aboard and to thank you for your major contribution to our category. The sponsorship deal includes the following: Permanently discounted tyres for all registered members (see the price list below) A new set of tyres for each of the three Division winners in 2013 All windscreen banners and stickers supplied Trackside support provided by Peak Race Tyres at all Sports Sedan race meetings in NSW The continued research and sourcing of other tyre sizes suitable for Sports Sedans This represents an excellent deal for our category, our club and our members. As with previous years, a condition of the sponsorship will be the inclusion of Kumho Tyres windscreen banners and stickers on all cars. Details of this will be included in the 2013 NSW Sports Sedan Championship Regulations, as well as future newsletters. One of the main attractions of Sports Sedans has always been the freedom of the rules and as soon as we start to over-control things and take away choices, we lose what Sports Sedans are supposed to be about. Kumho Tyres recognises this and therefore we are not introducing a control tyre as part of the deal. Not all tyre sizes are able to be catered for as yet, but all members are encouraged to take advantage of the excellent pricing now on offer to our category and support Kumho Tyres in supporting us. The discounted tyre deal applies to financial members of ASSA NSW, who are registered in the 2013 NSW Sports Sedan Championship a good excuse to get your 2013 membership done early! If you would like tyres for a race meeting please pre-order them at least 4 days in advance so that the guys from Peak Race Tyres can estimate how many tyres to bring on the truck. Tyres can be pre-fitted on rims if the rims are delivered to Peak Race Tyres at Parramatta in the week prior to a race meeting. At the track payment for tyres can be made in cash or by EFTPOS. Once again, all Sports Sedan competitors are encouraged to take advantage of the excellent deal put in place for our members in 2013. Contact David or James at Peak Race Tyres to order your Kumho slicks. 19

2013 Round Dates There have been delays in setting the calendar for next year, essentially caused by forces beyond the control of the motor race panels in each of the States. In previous years a reasonable system was employed, allowing for the V8 Supercars, the National series and the States to set calendars well in advance. Unfortunately this year someone saw fit to step outside that system to suit their own agenda, leaving the States to pick up the pieces. This has affected NSW in particular, with ten categories having to negotiate for positions in a calendar that simply does not have enough places for everybody. As our representative on the NSW Motor Race Advisory Panel, Chris Jackson has put a huge effort into getting the best dates possible for Sports Sedans and he is to be commended. The dates listed below are tentative only and are not yet confirmed. There is still negotiation being undertaken with the other NSW categories to ensure everyone gets as many dates as they require, so do not assume these dates will remain at this stage. Just to reiterate, these dates are NOT YET CONFIRMED. As soon as confirmation of the dates is received, everyone will be notified. DATE EVENT CIRCUIT 8 th -9 th February 12-hour Support Races Mt. Panorama, Bathurst (Stand Alone Event) 27 th -28 th April Round 1 Wakefield Park 22 nd -23 rd June Round 2 Sydney Motorsport Park 10 th -11 th August Round 3 Wakefield Park 21 st -22 nd September Round 4 Sydney Motorsport Park 9 th -10 th November Round 5 Sydney Motorsport Park (North Circuit) As you can see, the dates are less than ideal, with a late start to the year and also a late finish, some big gaps between rounds and only five rounds available. We are looking at some other options but in reality, this is probably the best we can hope for in the 2013 calendar. The Muscle Car Masters event still remains undecided, but there s a fair chance we will not be running at that event. It cannot therefore be relied upon as another possible date for the State Championship. If that situation changes and we do receive an invite, it will fall in between the Round 3 & Round 4 dates above, leaving only three weeks between what would become Rounds 3 & 4, then three weeks between Rounds 4 & 5. I welcome any feedback from members as to whether they think pursuing that extra Round is worth the effort please email your thoughts to info@sportsedan.com.au. Once again, these dates are not confirmed. Once confirmation is received, everyone will be advised. 21

New Club Logo As mentioned in previous newsletters, NSW Sports Sedans has been experiencing growth in recent times. Part of the strategy put together by our committee to aid in this process is to more actively promote our category to entice more competitors and more spectators to get involved with Sports Sedans in NSW. Some work has already been done in this area, but there is more that can be done. The successful promotion of our category and our style of racing remains a major priority for the club. To that end, now is the time for a change of image for the category and this is where our membership was given the opportunity to get involved in the process. The old club logo needed updating to better reflect Sports Sedans in NSW. There was nothing particularly wrong with the old logo, but it did not represent NSW and did not really depict Sports Sedans in a simple, recognisable fashion (the club is the NSW Division of the Australian Sports Sedan Association, so every other state shares the same logo). There will be no name change for the club we are still the Australian Sports Sedan Association NSW Division. But it was time for a redesign of the logo. We therefore opened this up to our membership to come up with the new logo for Sports Sedans in NSW, to take us into the future. A number of quality entries were received by the committee, with much deliberation required to decide the eventual winner. The winner of the competition (and the $1,000 prize) is Martin Koen, with the logo that now adorns this newsletter, the website and new apparel currently on order. Congratulations Martin! Although a sneak preview of the logo was seen at the Presentation Night, the new logo won t be included on the newsletters and website until the New Year. DON T FORGET TO COME TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY 4 th DECEMBER 22

Division 3 Receives Sponsorship Support Round sponsor and regular photographic contributors Koen Photo has provided extra support to NSW Sports Sedans in 2012 by supplying trophies and other benefits for Division 3 competitors. The NSW Committee has been looking at ways to attract more Division 3 competitors and build upon the class, and the support from Koen Photo will go a long way to achieving this. Koen Photo is looking at 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd trophies for each of the six State Championship rounds, then a Finals for the Presentation Night. They will also be making a special Encouragement Award to someone in Division 3. The NSW Committee is very grateful to Koen Photo for their ongoing support and in particular their push to improve Division 3 in 2012. If you are a Division 3 competitor or would like to be, please contact the Committee through Geoff Whittaker, or simply turn up and race! Round Sponsorship A number of businesses have again provided financial support to the ASSA and the championship in 2012 as Round Sponsors. Negotiations are currently underway to secure some more round sponsors for next year. Advertisements for our sponsors appear throughout the newsletters and on our cars at each round of the championship. The committee would like to thank the following businesses: CNC Engineering Services Unit 3, 144 Old Bathurst Road, Emu Plains 2750 Ph. 02 4735 7214 Fax 02 4735 7231 Email: sales@agmengineering.com.au - Motorsport Driveline Components - Limited Slip Differentials - Competition transmissions - Phone: (02) 9879 4839 - Web: www.drexler-motorsport.com.au 24
