Safety Tips (1) Runners should wear some form of personal identification to be used in the case of an emergency. (2) Remember: Runners do not own all of the road - just their share. RoadRunners Club is pleased to have Hashems Variety as sponsor of the Road Race Championships! This booklet lists the races that make up the Series as well as other events. We hope the points races will have something for every runner. The Championship series is aimed at stimulating interest in running and racing on PEI Points are earned according to place of finish so that at the end of the year, winners can be declared in the overall and age categories at the PEI RoadRunners Annual Banquet. While the Club can only recognize a small number of runners with awards, we feel that all our runners are winners. Running for fitness, recreation, fellowship or for the satisfaction of accomplishing goals are rewards enjoyed by all runners no matter where they are in the pack. We invite runners of all abilities and ages to come out to the races and have a good time, make friends and have fun. We have tried to ensure that all race information is correct. However, circumstances could necessitate change and it is the runner s responsibility to verify all information with race directors before finalizing their plans. Guidelines (1) Points are awarded to each RoadRunner member at each Championship points race according to the following formula for each of the four categories (Junior Male, Junior Female, Senior Male and Senior Female): 1 st - 29 Points 5 th - 21 Points 2 nd - 26 Points 6 th - 25 th - one less to a 3 rd - 24 Points total of 25 placings 4 th - 22 Points (2) One (1) point for each runner who participates in the race but does not qualify for points under the criteria listed above. (3) Final standings are determined from each runner s seven (7) best placings. Two (2) of the seven(7) races are to be 15 K or over. (4) Only P.E.I. RoadRunner Club members are eligible for points. Race numbers may or may not be given. Run timing may be informal. Run distance may be approximate. There may also be less support for runners along the course (i.e. fewer water stations). However, emphasis must still be place on runner safety and sufficient traffic control must be provided. Point Races - Emphasis is still placed on fun for all race participants. However, the following conditions should also be included in Point Races: At least a two year history as a well organized run. Course distances will be accurately measured. Race numbers will be provided. Accurate race timing. Greater emphasis is placed on providing water stops, directional signs and traffic control (Safety should still be the top priority). Race results will be provided to runners and to the Club statistician for use in the Road Race Championship Series. Road Race Championship Points will be awarded to all PEI RoadRunner Club members. Verify the bib number is the one you are wearing on race day OR change the bib number to the one you will be using during the race. 4. DRINK UP Drink eight ounces of liquids before you head out and two to four sips of water every 15 minutes. SLOW DOWN Every five-degree rise in temperature above 60 F can slow your pace up to 20 to 30 seconds per mile.
