Chilliwack Riding Club Rule Book 2017 GENERAL RULES 1) Our competition events refer to HCBC Rules as guidelines and will adhere to and enforce when applicable. A copy of these rules may be downloaded at http://www.hcbc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2017-hcbc-rules- Updated-Feb-28.pdf 2) All riders 18 & under must wear ASTM/SEI approved helmets when mounted. 3) Any person who has care or control of an equine during a CRC event must have HCBC membership. Proof of membership is required. 4) Riders may have family member s complete volunteer hours for them. 5) A horse known to kick must wear a red ribbon in the tail. 6) Consumption of alcohol at a CRC equine event will not be tolerated. Anyone found to be impaired by drugs or alcohol will be disqualified for the day. When a director has been informed of the issue, he/she will meet with 2 other directors to review the incident and a report will be written up. Upon a 2nd reoccurrence, membership may be revoked. 7) During any and all CRC events, when a lameness issue of a horse arises, anyone may see fit to bring the attention of said horse to any Director. When the Director has been informed of the issue, he/she will meet with 2 other Directors to review the situation. The Directors will assess the horse and ask the rider to trot the horse out. A decision will be made for the welfare of the horse and the safety of the rider as to whether it will be allowed to continue competing. The decision of the 3 Directors will be final and a written report shall be submitted at the next Director s Meeting. 8) Abuse of a horse will not be tolerated. Any act or series of actions that in the opinion of the Judge, Steward and/or directors) can be defined as abuse of a horse will be reported, and, in addition may be penalized. Such acts include, but not limited to: Persistent use of spurs, whips and/or bat; Persistent abuse of the mouth through the bit; Riding of an exhausted horse; Riding an obviously lame horse; Riding of an ill or excessively underweight horse. Disciplinary action: Owner and/or Rider will be asked to leave for the day and forfeits any/all points or prizes for the day

GYMKHANA RULES 1. Heeled boots and Western or English attire must be worn including hat or helmet. Sleeveless shirts, weather permitting, No Golf or Tee shirts 2. Any rider going off course shall be disqualified. 3. If western hat hits the ground, a $2.00 fine is to be paid before the next event. 4. A 5 second penalty shall be given for knocking over a barrel, or pole in pole bending, stakes, pole turn and key race; rider will not be disqualified for manipulating game equipment. 5. A rider will be disqualified if a handler crosses the timer line with the exception of the Lead line class. 6. Any act or series of actions that in the opinion of the Judge, Directors or Spectators that can be defined as abuse of a horse will be reported in writing, such acts include, but not limited to: Persistent use of spurs, whips and/or bat; Persistent abuse of the mouth through the bit; Riding of an exhausted horse; Riding an obviously lame horse; Riding of a ill or excessively underweight horse. Disciplinary action: Owner and/or Rider will be asked to leave for the day and forfeits any/all points or prizes for the day. 7. Points go to the rider not the horse. 8. Riders may compete in 2 different divisions, riding 2 or more horses in one or more divisions, collecting ribbons, points, and fastest times. 9. Gymkhanas consist of 5 individually run events for all Year End Awards: Barrels, Pole Bending, Stakes, Key Race, and Pole Turn. Others may be added time permitting. 10. Late entries pay full price, but late entries ride only the events from time of registration 11. All riders must ride in order of schedule; however, special consideration will be given to those that must leave early at the discretion of the Gymkhana Committee on hand at the time. You must inform Gymkhana committee at the time of registration. Order of ride shall be by random draw. 12. If rider or horse becomes injured and cannot finish out the day, rider will not lose points for Year End. 13. Gymkhana point system. First Second Third Fourth Fifth Sixth 6 points 5 points 4 points 3 points 2 points 1 point 14. The judge will signal the adult gate person when to let the next rider in the arena. Riders may start as soon as they are in the arena. Riders may use run-ins when available; however rider must have full control of horse when entering gate.

15. The Novice division is designed for an inexperienced horse and/or rider in gymkhana events. If the rider has comparable race times to the times which are in the appropriate age division for that rider, the rider must move into that age division after competing in no more than two gymkhanas. The rider will be informed by the head of the gymkhana committee of the decision to move them at the end of the day in which the decision has been made. 16. The Judge s decision is final. 17. AGE DIVISIONS (as of Jan 1st) Lead Line No age limit Junior 13 Youth 14 to 17 years Senior 18 and up Novice Inexperienced horse and or rider. See rule 15 18. To qualify for Year End Awards in the gymkhanas; CRC members must compete in 60% of gymkhanas held by the CRC and volunteer at 5 CRC functions. (For each horse that you are competing on for yearend you need 5 volunteer times per horse.)

HORSE SHOW RULES 1) Manageable stallions may be ridden and handled by adults 19 and over only. 2) All classes in Point Horse Shows will count towards High Point daily Awards. Only Equitation, Pleasure classes will count towards Year End Awards at Point Shows. No entry into the arena after gate is closed. 4) If you are in a Walk/Trot class you are not allowed to canter in the warm up arena. 5) All age divisions are as of January 1st of the current year. AGE DIVISIONS (as of Jan 1st) Walk/Trot A Walk/Trot B Green Junior Youth Senior Lead Line 12 and under 13 and over 5 or less Horse Shows in 3 years 13 years and under 14 to 17 years of age 18 years of age and up No age restrictions 6) English Attire and Tack Attire: Helmet or bowler, suitable jacket or sweater, boots with heel and breeches are required.

Tack: English saddle of any type is required. Bridles may be double, Pelham, snaffle, or kimberwick. Breast collars are optional. No martingales, training equipment, boots, or bandages. 7) Western Attire and Tack: Attire: Western hat for 19 and over or optional to wear a helmet at riders discretion, suitable western shirt with collar or Western Show slinky shirt, boots with heel and jeans or pants are required. Chaps are optional. Tack: Western saddle of any type is required. Bits must have shank with a leather or chain chinstrap at least ½ inch wide, for horses 6yrs and older, ridden with one hand. One finger allowed between split reins. When Rommel rein is carried, hand must be 16 inches away from the rein in hand. Bosal & mecate reins, or snaffle with split reins held with two hands in a bridge, allowed for horses 5 years & under. 8) Chilliwack Riding Club Show Committee reserves the right to combine or split classes. 9) No cross entry with Walk/Trot and Green division. 10) First place year end High Point for Green and Walk/Trot Divisions must move up to appropriate division the following year. 11) To qualify for year end in horse shows; CRC members must compete in 60% of point horse shows and volunteer at 5 CRC functions.
