It provides a unique opportunity to swim one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of open water in the world. This family event, which is held throughout the day, also features the Henley Half Mile for age 9+ and the Henley Splash 200m for age 8+. EVENT LOCATION & DIRECTIONS By Car Sat Nav Details: Temple Island Meadows Car Park, Remenham Church Lane, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon. RG9 3DD FROM WHITE HILL (A4130), PLEASE USE REMENHAM CHURCH LANE AND NOT REMENHAM LANE TO ACCESS THE EVENT SITE. From Henley town centre by car: Go over Henley Bridge towards 'Maidenhead'. Go past the Little Angel on your left. DO NOT TURN LEFT INTO REMENHAM LANE. At the top of the hill, turn LEFT into Remenham Church Lane, and follow the signs to Remenham Farm and to the event car park. From M4 - Leave the M4 at Junction 8/9. Take the A404(M) towards 'Henley' & 'Marlow'. Leave A404M at the 2nd junction signposted 'Henley', 'A4130'. Turn LEFT at the give way and go straight over at the roundabout, again signposted 'Henley' onto the A4130. Follow this road for approx. 4 miles. Just after a petrol station on your right take the next RIGHT turn into Remenham Church Lane, and follow the signs to Remenham Farm and to the event car park. By Train/Walking The nearest train station is Henley on Thames which has links to London (Approximately 1 hour) and Reading (Approximately 20 minutes) Temple Island Meadows is approximately 1 mile from the Town centre and is easily accessed, on foot, via the towpath. Cross Henley bridge (travelling away from the town centre) and turn left along the river. From M40 - Leave the M40 at Junction 4. Take the A404(M) towards 'Marlow'. At the first roundabout go straight over towards 'Henley' and 'Maidenhead'. Take the next junction, signposted 'Henley', 'A4130, then see above. 3
VENUE & EVENT FACILITIES Parking Available at the venue in Remenham Meadows. It would help if you had the correct change of 2 per vehicle. Event Facilities Toilets and changing areas will be available at the event area. Catering Hot & cold drinks and food will be available throughout the event, from a number of outlets. Outdoor Swimmer Show Get your stroke analysed in the Endless Pool, book a luxury swimming holiday or refresh your kit at the Outdoor Swimmer Show. Wetsuit Hire Wetsuits are available to hire from our wetsuit partner Cliff Lakes. We recommend you make a booking in advance as there will be limited on the day availability. Please email kate@clifflakes.com for further information. Elise Quarrington will be on hand to provide 10 minute post-swim massages ( 10). These can be booked on the day. Event Memorabilia All finishers will receive a Henley Mile medal. USEFUL INFORMATION On the Day Checklist Here's your recommended kit list for the day: Photographic ID for registration Goggles and anti-fog spray Swim kit (swim costume, wetsuit, you will be supplied with a hat) Flip flops + named plastic bag Warm kit including a warm hat Sun cream Bottled water / sports drink Money for food, drinks, and Henley Mile memorabilia kit available to purchase at the event. Water Temperature The water temperature at the Mile depends upon both the outside temperature and the quantity of rainfall in the days and weeks running up to the event. It is therefore very difficult to predict. On 9th July the river temperature was 22 degrees. Traditional Category Standard swimming costumes trunks (not jammers) for men, and costumes for women. The leg on all trunks and costumes must not go below the line of the crotch. (See here for Traditional Category Rules). Bag Drop There will be a bag drop area where you can safely leave your belongings while you swim. You will find a bag drop tag in your registration pack. 6

Please check your confirmation email, or login to our online registration system here. Please arrive at the venue to collect your registration pack at least 90 minutes before the start of your wave. RACE GUIDELINES Before the Swim Please ensure you arrive at least 90 minutes before your race start time, so that you have sufficient time to register, drop your bag and prepare for your swim. Registration All competitors must register, confirming your identity with photographic ID, before being allocated a numbered swimming cap and timing chip. Walk To The Start When you register, you will be told at what time your wave is walking to the start. Please make sure you have your hat and goggles. You can also wear flip flops, which you will be able to place in a bucket at the start. We recommend you put them in a plastic bag. These will be transported to the finish. If you are swimming without a wetsuit, you can also place a hoodie in your bag. NB: If anyone has a medical condition that means the walk will be a problem, please contact us. Safety briefing The safety briefing will take place at the start line. Swim Once briefed, you will be called forward in your Wave and must enter the river only at the designated entry points. You will then have a short warm up and be asked to swim to the Start line, before the signal is given to start the race. After the Swim Once you have completed your swim and left the river at the designated exit points, you will be able to collect your shoes before walking back to the main event area. There you will be able to join friends and supporters, enjoy a well earned rest and perhaps even get a Sports Massage before having something to eat and visit the Outdoor Swimmer Open Water Swimming Show. Race Results Competitors will be able to get a print-out of their finishing time after the race. 8
SAFETY ADVICE & INFORMATION Safety Advice Whilst water quality tests provide an indication of the suitability of a venue for open water swimming they do not mean that that there is a complete absence of potential pathogens. You are advised to adopt the following procedures to minimise the risk of infections: Cover all cuts and abrasions, however minor, with sticking plasters. You should not consider swimming if you have deep cuts. Wash hands in fresh water before eating after you have swum. Take a full shower at the earliest opportunity. Try not to ingest water while swimming. In addition all swimming kit (wetsuit, costume, goggles, hat, etc.) should be washed in clean water and thoroughly dried prior to your next swimming session or event.
