Sunday s game marks the 39th overall between the two schools and the first this season. The Commodores currently hold a 27-11 advantage in the series, which includes an 82-66 victory last season in Tuscaloosa. Last time out, the Tide dropped an 81-40 decision at Auburn. Alabama finished the game with 29 turnovers of which Auburn scored 37 points off of. The Tigers shot 49.2 percent (30-for-61) from the floor and 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from three-point range, while the Tide was 31.8 percent (14-for-44) for the game. Junior Jessica Merritt led Alabama in scoring with 15 points, while freshman Aneesah Daniels was the Tide s leader in rebounds with nine. On the season, Alabama is led in scoring by sophomore Jasmine Robinson, who averages 11.2 points per game. She is followed by junior Meghan Perkins with 9.6 points per contest. Perkins is also the Tide s leader in rebounds with 5.4 boards per game, while Daniels follows closely behind with 5.1 rebounds per game. Vanderbilt enters Sunday s game having dropped its last two contests by a combined 12 points, with both games on the road. The Commodores fell 70-61 at Kentucky on Monday night and followed that up with a 69-66 loss at LSU on Thursday. In Thursday s game against the Lady Tigers, Vanderbilt was led in scoring by sophomore Christina Foggie, who had 17 points. Sophomore Jasmine Lister added 14 and junior Elan Brown contributed 12. As a team, the Commodores only had 21 rebounds, compared to 41 rebounds by LSU. Vanderbilt currently has four players averaging doubledigit points, led by Foggie s 17.9 point-per-game contribution. That mark is also good for No. 1 in scoring in the SEC. She is followed by Lister (12.0 ppg), junior Tiffany Clarke (11.9 ppg) and sophomore Stephanie Holzer (11.0 ppg). Clarke and Holzer lead the Commodores in rebounds with averages of 7.5 and 7.1 boards, respectively. Lister leads the team, as well as the SEC, in assists per game, handing out 5.4 per contest. URIES ABOUND IN 2012: The Crimson Tide has had to deal with a series of injuries throughout the season, making gameplanning for both practices and games a challenge. Four of Alabama s 11 current active players, including Kyra Crosby, Jessica Merritt, Shafontaye Myers and Kristin Bush, have logged a combined 28 missed games. Due to the injuries, and availability of certain players, the Tide has started 13 different lineups thus far. RUSSELL ENDS CAREER; RECEIVES MEDICAL DISQUALIFICATION: Senior Ericka Russell has received a medical disqualification due to previous knee injuries, which has ended her career for the Crimson Tide, Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson announced on Tuesday, January 17. Russell, a 5-7 guard from Tuscaloosa, was a steady fixture in the Tide lineup since joining the squad in 2008. She started in all but 11 games throughout her career and became the 23rd member of Alabama s 1,000 Point Club on November 12, 2011, against Nicholls State. She earned Most Valuable Player honors at the 2011 Paradise Jam after averaging 17.7 points per game, including a season-high 29 against Old Dominion. Russell finishes her career as one of the best three-point shooters in program history, ranking fourth in three-point field goals made (212) as well as three-point field goals attempted (709). DANIELS EARNS SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK NOD: Tide Freshman Aneesah Daniels had a productive trip at the 2011 Paradise Jam, earning her Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors on November 28. The Decatur, Ga., native scored a career-high 13 points in Alabama s overtime win against Seton Hall. Eleven of the Tide s final 18 points came from Daniels in the victory. She also had a pair of offensive rebounds to keep the ball in Alabama s possession in overtime with less than 19 seconds on the clock. Daniels played a career-high 24 minutes against Seton Hall and averaged 8.3 points and 5.5 rebounds during the trip to the tournament. RUSSELL JOINS 1,000 POINT CLUB: In the Tide s season opener against Nicholls State, senior Ericka Russell notched the 1,000th point of her career at the Capstone. The milestone came at the 12:24 mark of the second half when Russell connected on a three-pointer to give her her 11th point of the contest. She became the 23rd member, ironically the same number she wears on her jersey, of Alabama s 1,000 Point Club. RUSSELL NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-SEC SECOND TEAM: Senior Ericka Russell was selected to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference Second Team by league coaches.
