Ran very wide rounding the home turn and entrance to the straight. A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Donavia Inclined to overrace approaching and rounding the first turn and in the middle stages. Isla Tristana Inclined to overrace rounding the first turn. Jacaranda Prince Began very awkwardly and was steadied shortly after when tightened for room. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Kokopelli Shifted out under pressure approaching and passing the 50m. My Crimson Lad Carried very wide rounding the home turn and entrance to the straight. Swift Dani A pre race veterinary examination of the filly, which became fractious in the enclosure, fell over and dislodged it rider T. Treichel, passed it fit to start. T. Treichel was assessed by the clubs ambulance officers and cleared fit to fulfil his riding engagement. Trainer Mr E. Ensby was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre race manners of the filly. Blundered on jumping. RACE 2: Maiden Handicap 1255m: Benicstress Raced very wide in the early and middle stages. 1
Maybe One Day When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey J. Taylor stated that his mount was under pressure the entire journey and failed to take a competitive part in the event at any stage. J. Taylor added that his mount has an unusual action and it failed to navigate the tight turning circuit. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be lame in the off hind leg and to have lost its off fore plate. Trainer Mr E. Ensby was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start and before such trial requires a veterinary certificate of fitness. Further, Mr Ensby was advised that the action of the gelding, which appears to throw its near fore leg, would be monitored. Lingering Love Bumped on two occasions approaching the first turn. Eased from heels rounding the first turn. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Eased when awkwardly placed on heels near the 600m. Mia s Got Class Eased when awkwardly placed on heels rounding the first turn. Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Much Deeper Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Bumped and unbalanced close to the finish line. Quite Magical Began awkwardly. Stormy Leo Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Verduzzo A pre race veterinary examination of the gelding, which bucked en route to the barriers and dislodged its rider S. Traecey, passed it fit to compete. Trainer Ms J. Bohr was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre race manners of the gelding. S. Traecey suffered no apparent injury in the incident. Bumped on jumping. Bumped close to the finish line. Yeah the Boys As R. McMahon failed to arrive on course stewards permitted L. Rolls to replace him as the rider of the gelding. R. McMahon will be interviewed regarding his failure to fulfil a riding engagement at a date to be fixed. Bumped on two occasions approaching the first turn. Eased after improving onto heels near the 800m. Following the running of the event T. Treichel advised that he was experiencing pain in his right knee and he did not feel fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. Call Us Primi - Eased after improving onto heels near the 700m. Unable to improve between the 600m and 400m when held up on heels. Legal Stature Eased when awkwardly placed on heels near the 800m. Eased from heels close to the finish line. More Than Tears Apprentice Ms C. Miles advised that her saddle slipped forward during the early stages of the event resulting in her being severely disadvantaged during the event and unable to test her mount down the straight. Ran out near the 800m. Obsessions Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Eased when tightened for room passing the 400m. Outback Buck Pulled rounding the first turn. Passing the 1200m was checked for a number of strides after pulling its way into insufficient racing room. Checked passing the 1000m after improving into insufficient racing room. Approaching the 400m became held up and was unable to improve to the entrance to the straight. Apprentice Ms O. Pickering reported that her mount had its tongue over the bit on return to scale. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality other than a small speedy cut to the near fore pastern. Red Poker - Eased after improving onto heels near the 700m. Steering Eased after improving onto heels near the 700m. Momentarily eased from heels near the 400m. RACE 4: Class 1 Handicap 1005m: Capital City Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Don t Remember When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding apprentice Ms C. Dougherty stated that her mount blundered on jumping, was hampered shortly after and consequently settled at the rear of the field. Ms Dougherty stated that rounding the first turn her mount lost further ground when she oversteered it inwards and it made heavy contact with the running rail and became unbalanced. Ms Dougherty stated that by the time her mount recovered the field was well in advance of her mount and she was unable to make any significant ground on them throughout the remainder of the event. El Nino s Bambino When questioned regarding the performance of the mare apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester stated that his mount had to work harder than anticipated to establish a position outside the leader. J. Guthmann-Chester added that the tempo of the race was genuine in the middle stages and when he asked his mount to sprint rounding the home turn it failed to respond and weakened in its run to the line. J. Guthmann-Chester added that his mount felt flat and raced like a tired horse. A post race veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to be mildly lame in the near fore leg. Trainer Mr F. Adams advised that the mare would be spelled. Fighting Belle Laid out under pressure down the straight and shifted out abruptly near the 100m. 3
One More Tisha Bumped shortly after the start. Overraced fiercely approaching the first turn. Viscount Lad Overraced approaching and rounding the first turn. RACE 5: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1005m: Arabian King Slow to begin. Passing the 200m was obliged to ease in around heels to continue to improve. Momentarily held up on heels approaching the 100m. Asti Chops Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 100m shifted out and bumped heavily with another runner. Latin American Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Media Maid Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 100m was bumped heavily. Rile Slow to begin. Blundered passing the 800m. Sunset Hills Began awkwardly. Supreme Willy Slow to begin. The Wanted Club Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. RACE 6: Benchmark 58 Handicap 1905m: Bringit Ran out rounding the first turn. Inclined to overrace approaching and rounding the first turn. Deep Chartreuse Ran wide rounding the first turn. Laid out down the straight. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey G. Colless stated that his mount found the lead with little effort and enjoyed a comfortable run at a moderate tempo throughout the middle stages. G. Colless added that his mount was under pressure from the 600m and weakened in its run to the line. When questioned, Mr Dunn stated that it was the geldings first attempt over the journey and in his opinion it failed to run out the distance. M. Dunn added the gelding would be retired from his stable. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have mild symptoms of heat stress. Heavenly Dancer Eased after improving onto heels approaching the 900m. Checked after improving onto heels near the 700m. Eased after improving into insufficient racing room passing the 500m. Jimmy Hoffa (NZ) Raced wide in the middle stages. Leprechaun Lad Began awkwardly. Eased and shifted out abruptly after improving onto heels approaching the 900m. Passing the 400m was obliged to ease and shift out around heels to continue to improve. 4
Lillooet Hampered shortly after the start. One More Two More Declared a late scratching by order of stewards, acting on veterinary advice, at 4.15pm after the mare made heavy contact with the front gates whilst being loaded. Stewards ordered that all wagers on the gelding be refunded and that all successful wagers placed with bookmakers prior to 4.15pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket, 12 cents the win and 9 cents the place for 1st (Bringit), 11 cents the place for 2nd (Lillooet) and 13 cents the place for 3 rd (Supplements). Trainer Mr M. Dunn advised that the mare would be spelled. Rockabella Boy Carried wide rounding the first turn. When questioned regarding his riding between the 500m and 400m, in particular allowing eventual winner Bringit to improve from a position outside his mount to three lengths in advance of it before placing his mount under pressure, apprentice J. Woodhouse stated his mount was attempting the 1900m journey for the first time and he was concerned his mount would not run out the distance. J. Woodhouse stated at this stage of the event he was more concerned with keeping his mount travelling comfortably rather than improving with Bringit. Stewards advised J. Woodhouse that his handling of his mount at this stage of the event lacked judgement and foresight. Stewards advised J. Woodhouse that his mount enjoyed a comfortable run outside a moderate tempo throughout the early and middle stages. Stewards added Bringit was a favoured runner in the event working into a sprint from the 500m and it was reasonable that he would look to improve with that runner at this stage. Stewards advised J. Woodhouse that by giving Bringit a three length start at this stage of the race and asking his mount to sprint and run it down off a moderate tempo were to its detriment. J. Woodhouse agreed with the stewards sentiments. Trusty Misty Ran out rounding the first turn. Vitervo Star Hampered shortly after the start. Ran wide rounding the first turn. Laid in down the straight. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer Mr E. Ensby was advised that the gelding requires a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to its next race start. RACE 7: Benchmark 65 Handicap 1305m: Anne Bonny Shortly after straightening was obliged to ease and shift in around heels to continue to improve. Aussie Jack Raced wide in the early stages. Basic Strategy Eased after improving onto heels near the 1000m. Choice Princess Raced wide in the early and middle stages. I Do Care Eased after improving onto heels near the 900m. Name and Shame Bumped on jumping. Eased when racing in restricted room shortly after. Overraced approaching and rounding the first turn. 5
Phast Lad Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Queen Charlotte As M. McGuren was incorrectly declared as the rider of the filly stewards permitted B. Appo to replace him as the rider of the filly. She Tells Lies Slow to begin. Son of a Warrior Bumped on jumping. RACE 8: Class 2 Handicap 1305m: California Star Slow to begin. Rounding the first turn commenced to overrace fiercely, becoming intractable, and ran out abruptly across the running of Galiano which was steadied. Continued to overrace fiercely until near the 700m. Trainer Ms J. Hardy was advised that the mare is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start to prove its tractability. Galiano Steadied from heels passing the 1000m. Hakakuna Eased when tightened for room near the 700m. Masked Model Began awkwardly. Ponzi Rounding the home turn became held up on heels and was unable to be fully tested until passing the 150m. Sky Brook When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of the mare trainer Mr D. Schmidt stated that this is the first preparation he has given the mare. Mr Schmidt stated that in his opinion the mare is very hard to get fit despite a heavy trackwork load. Mr Schmidt stated that this is the sixth start he has given the mare this preparation and in his opinion it has improved with each run as its race fitness has improved. Mr Schmidt added that the mare enjoyed a comfortable run behind the leaders throughout the event, with a minimal weight impost and further the mare may have appreciated the softer going today to that it has raced on in recent starts. Steal a Diamond Eased out away from heels near the 900m. Supreme Babe Slow to begin. The Big Le Boomski When questioned regarding the performance of the mare jockey M. Bennett stated that his mount failed to travel comfortably during the early and middle stages being inclined to overrace and hurdle lighter sections of grass on the track. M. Bennett added that his mount blundered badly near the 700m and shortly after was under pressure to maintain its position. M. Bennett added his mount compounded quickly over the final 200m of the event and in his opinion its racing manners in the early and middle stages were to its detriment over the latter stages of the event. When questioned, trainer Ms L. Paton stated that she was confident of the mares chances today and felt the explanation tendered by M. Bennett was the only plausible explanation. Ms Paton added they would look to ride the mare with cover next start in the hope it will relax and travel 6
truly in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. Yankee Express Raced wide in the early stages.
